Characterization on the electrochemical and structural properties of polyanion cathode material Li2MnSiO4/C depending on the synthesis process (합성 방법에 따른 Li2MnSiO4/C 다중음이온 양극활물질의 구조 및 전기화학적 성질)

  • $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C was synthesized by solid state reaction and solution synthesis with sucrose for carbon source. The X-ray diffraction patterns of solid state reaction indicates small amount of impurities. By FE-SEM and HR-TEM, solution synthesis comprised several tens of nanometer comparing to 500~600 nm of $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C prepared by solid state reaction. The $Li_2MnSiO_4$/C prepared by solution synthesis show better electrochemical performance than solid state reaction. The first charge-discharge capacity are 236, 189 mAh/g respectively by solution synthesis. But its cycle performance was poor as yet and its capacity retention was 62% after 10 cycles.

  • Korean domestic electricity market is saturated through trying to find ways to overcome the limitations of the domestic electricity industry with overseas electricity markets. Korean electricity industry in the overseas market in order to pursue continuous growth, competitive and aggressive investment in overseas market is promoting. This paper attempts to apply input-output analysis to estimate the role of coal thermal power plant sector exports national economy. More specifically, this study shows what national economy effect of production-inducing effect, value-added inducing effect, and employment-inducing effect are explored with demand-driven model. After define coal thermal power plant sector what small sized of Input-Output table 168 sectors among 17 sectors, this study pays particular and close attention to coal thermal power plant sector by taking the sector as exogenous specification and then investigating economic impacts of it. This study uses coal thermal power plant exportation case of Vietnam project, production-inducing effect, value-added inducing effect, and employment-inducing effect are 2,853 billion won, 973 billion won and 14,761 persons, respectively.

Recycle of the Glass Fiber Obtained from the Roving Cloth of FRP I: Study for the Physical Properties of Fiber-reinforced Mortar (폐 FRP 선박의 로빙층에서 분리한 유리섬유의 재활용 I: 섬유강화 모르타르의 물성에 관한 연구)

  • While the effort has been made in recycling the FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) used for the medium-to-small size ships, researchers try to find out the methods more favorable for the environments and more value-added. In respect to the fact that the FRP consists of two types of layers, roving and mat, differentiated by the 2-dimensional structure, our group was able to separate the layers of FRP instead of grinding it. The roving cloth was cut to the long glass fibers (about 50 mm long; calling it 'F-fiber' afterwards). F-fiber showed increasing tensile strength and chemical-resistance possibly due to the remained resin (about 25% by weight). In this experiment fiber-reinforced mortars are made of the F-fiber as a recycling method of FRP. The mortar containing 2% (v/v) F-fiber results in 34.6% increment of bending strength from the standard after 28 day curing. The resulting strength is similar to that of the mortar with imported polyvinyl fiber P-54. These results imply that F-fiber can be applied to the 'fiber reinforced mortar' and furthermore may be a substitute for the imported fibers.

  • In developing offshore wind farms, many environmental issues arise because of the concentration on supply demand and economic logic. Accordingly, community conflict is induced. Especially, recent studies regarding the capacity and location of offshore wind development have been conducted considering wind states and ocean conditions, etc. of coastal seas in Republic of Korea. Nevertheless, studies on the impact of marine environments and ecosystems are very limited so far. Environmental monitoring that follows development projects has been actively done in the offshore wind farms in many developed European countries. In contrast, there is no domestic monitoring data regarding environmental impacts caused by installing and operating offshore wind power. Therefore, the environmental impacts under construction and operation phases as well as the guidelines in the stage of environmental impact assessment suited for domestic coastal seas are well presented in this study by analyzing monitoring cases and references of overseas offshore wind farm. For this reason, this research is ultimately aimed at minimizing the environmental impact in offshore wind farm development and thus simplify administrative procedures in Korea.

Seasonal Characteristics of Temperature and Salinity Variations Around the Tongyeong and Geoje Coastal Waters by a Cluster Analysis (군집분석을 이용한 통영·거제 연안역의 수온·염분 계절 변동 특성)

  • This study was carried out to understand the characteristic distributions of water temperature and salinity in accordance with seasons atound the Tongyeong and Geoje, based on a cluster analysis. Water temperatures in coastal areas were $1-2^{\circ}C$ higher than those in open seas when in the spring, autumn and winter. In particular, a south-northward isothermal line was established at the bottom layer in the winter of 2014, unlikely to the surface layer. In addition, a south-northward isohaline was also established at the bottom layer in the winter of 2013. Therefore, we recognized that a moving pattern of water masses has also a difference since forming directions of those lines were not equivalent with each other between the surface and bottom layers. In contrast, stratification appeared in the summer with a roughly difference of water temperature of $10^{\circ}C$ and a salinity of 2-10 psu between the layers. A cluster analysis indicated that the southeastern coastal waters have three distinct water masses, even though some complicated situations exist due to the seawater inflow from the outside. However, the result of a cluster analysis turned out quite reasonable because the result of a regression analysis proved that it is appropriate, just except for the timing of a south-northward front formation.

Analysis of Scour Phenomenon around Offshore Wind Foundation using Flow-3D Model (Flow-3D 모형을 이용한 해상풍력기초 세굴현상 분석)

  • Various types of alternative energy sources to petroleum are being developed both domestically and internationally as clean energy that does not emit greenhouse gases. In particular, offshore wind power has been studied because the wind resources are relatively limitless and the wind power is relatively smaller than onshore. In this study, to analyze the scour phenomenon around offshore wind foundations, mono pile and tripod pile foundations were simulated using a FLOW-3D model. The scour phenomenon was evaluated for mono piles: one is a pile with a 5 m diameter and d=1.69 m and the other is a pile with a 5 m diameter. Numerical analysis showed that in the latter, the falling-flow increased and the maximum scour depth occurred more than 1.7 times. For a tripod pile foundation, the measured velocity and the maximum wave condition were applied to the upstream boundary condition, respectively, and the scour phenomenon was evaluated. When the maximum wave condition was applied, the maximum scour depth occurred more than about 1.3 times. When the LES model was applied, the scour depth reached equilibrium, whereas the numerical results of the RNG model show that the scour phenomenon occurred in the entire boundary area and the scour depth did not reach equilibrium. To evaluate the scour phenomenon around offshore wind foundations, it is reasonable to apply the wave condition and the LES turbulence model to numerical model applications.

A Study on the Difference in Ballasting Time Arising from the Installation of an Ultraviolet Ballast Water Management System on Existing Ships (현존선에 자외선 평형수처리장치 설치로 인한 평형수 처리시간 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study quantitatively investigated the increase in ballasting time through numerical calculations when an ultraviolet (UV) ballast water management system (BWMS) is installed on an existing vessel. The calculation results indicate that the ballasting time of a gas carrier having 55,000 dead weight tonnage was 2.152 hours without installation of the UV BWMS and implementation of a flow control function. Ballasting time increased by 14.2% after installing the UV BWMS, and it increased by 20.4% with both its installation and implementation of a flow control function. If actual conditions are taken into account, ballasting time after installing the UV BWMS is estimated to increase by at least 30% compared with current ballasting time. Therefore, when concerned parties select a UV type BWMS, it is advisable for them to minimize ship operation losses from an increase in ballasting time by considering the capacity of the actual ballast pumps on board and the flow energy loss of the UV BWMS. Additionally, it is recommended that a BWMS with larger capacity, larger pipes, and pipes with inside coatings be used to minimize the increase in ballasting time after installation of the BWMS.

  • A tip-over test of the 1/3 scale model is conducted to verify the tip-oner analysis of a dry concrete storage cask under a hypothetical accident condition. The tip-oner analysis is executed using the velocity at each point which are determined from the initial angular velocity as the initial conditions of the model just before the impact. To confirm the structural integrity of the canister of a dry concrete storage cask, the non-detective testing such as Liquid Penetrants testing and Ultrasonic Testing are conducted. The strains and tile accelerations acquired by the tip-over test are compared with those by the analysis to verify the tip-over analysis.   • Field survey on the marine environmental characteristics by the distribution of dinoflagellate cysts and organic matter was carried out bimonthly at 6 stations in Gamak Bay, the southern part of Korean Peninsula from June 2000 to April 2001. The range of environmental factors on vertical sediments such as ignition loss (IL), chemical oxygen demand (CODs), total sulfide (H₂S), particulate organic carbon (POC), particulate organic nitrogen (PON) and phaeopigment were 3.21∼11.18%. 12.25∼99.26 mgO₂/g dry, 2.49∼116.18 ㎍/g dry, 2.91∼116.18 mgC/g dry, 0.53∼2.82 mgN/g dry and 2.49∼116.18 ㎍/g dry, respectively. A total of 38 species dinoflageuate cysts belonged to 21 genera, 36 species, and 2 unidentified species. A cysts density were 18∼3,836 cysts/g dry. Vertical distribution of organic matter and dinoflagellate cysts was rapidly decreased from surface to deeper sediment. The eutrophication in the northwestern parts of Gamak Bay might originated since 1980s.

Observation and Analysis of Movement Characteristics of Drifting Ships (표류선박 거동특성 관측 및 분석)

  • The movement of drifting ships on the sea is closely related to marine environmental forces such as waves, currents, winds, etc. To develop a prediction model for trajectories oi drifting ships, an experiment on the movement of drifting ships was carried out in the Southeastern Sea of Korea. Five types of ships including a lire raft and tour ships with G/T 10tons, G/T 2o tons, G/T 50 tons, and G/T 80 tons, were considered in the experiment. The G/T 50 ton class ship was used as a base ship for obtaining the currents, winds and heading angles of ship following the trajectory. The trajectory of each ship was measured by DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) and collected using APRS(Automatic Position Reporting System) installed on the base ship. The error range in position fix of DGPS are approximately ±1 m. The drift speed of ship in the experiment was between 3% to 5% of wind speed and drift direction of ship was deflected by ±90° from wind direction. Also, the heading of drifting ship was normal to wind direction.
