The energy consumption problem should be taken into consideration in wireless sensor network. Many studies have been proposed to address the energy consumption and delay problem. In this paper, we propose BISA(Bio-inspired Scheduling Algorithm) to reduce the energy consumption and delay in wireless sensor networks based on biological system. BISA investigates energy-efficient routing path and minimizes the energy consumption and delay using multi-channel for data transmission by multiplexing data transmission path. Through simulation, we confirm that the proposed scheme guarantees the efficient energy consumption and delay requirement.

Recently, Expectation Area-based Real-time Routing (EAR2) protocol has been proposed to support real-time routing in wireless sensor networks. EAR2 considers the expectation area of a mobile sink and uses flooding within the expectation area. However, flooding leads to excessive energy consumption and causes long delay against real-time routing. Moreover, since EAR2 uses single path to the expectation area, it is difficult to support reliable routing in sensor networks with high link failures. Thus, to overcome these limitation of EAR2, this paper proposes a reliable and real-time routing protocol based on virtual grids and multipath for mobile sinks. To support real-time routing, the proposed protocol considers expectation grids belonged to the expectation area. Instead of flooding within the expectation area, the proposed protocol uses multicasting to the expectation grids and single hop forwarding in an expectation grid because the multicasting can save much energy and the single hop forwarding can provide short delay. Also, the proposed protocol uses multipath to the expectation grids to deal with link failures for supporting reliable routing. Simulation results show that the proposed protocol is superior to the existing protocols.
MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network)s have been researched primary at routing protocols and at the guarantees of QoS(Quality of Service) for mobile environments. Otherwise the Ubiquitous Sensor Networks (USNs) have some limitations in power energies and in processing of sensing data, as well as their network topologies are frequently changed by fading off and node failures. Thus we should redesign network protocols with concerning to energy efficiency for the USNs above all. In this paper, we focus on the protocol interface for managing for USNs based on the surveys. And then we figure the topology of USNs out and design the network protocol interface to make power saved, with data gathering and processing more efficient using our designed packet structures.
Routing through a backbone, which is responsible for performing and managing multipoint communication, reduces the communication overhead and overall energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. However, the backbone nodes will need extra functionality and therefore consume more energy compared to the other nodes. The power consumption imbalance among sensor nodes may cause a network partition and failures where the transmission from some sensors to the sink node could be blocked. Hence optimal construction of the backbone is one of the pivotal problems in sensor network applications and can drastically affect the network's communication energy dissipation. In this paper a distributed algorithm is proposed to generate backbone trees through robust multi-hop clusters in wireless sensor networks. The main objective is to form a properly designed backbone through multi-hop clusters by considering energy level and degree of each node. Our improved cluster head selection method ensures that energy is consumed evenly among the nodes in the network, thereby increasing the network lifetime. Comprehensive computer simulations have indicated that the newly proposed scheme gives approximately 10.36% and 24.05% improvements in the performances related to the residual energy level and the degree of the cluster heads respectively and also prolongs the network lifetime.

Recently, lot of researches on multi-level protocol have been done to balance the sensor node energy consumption of WSN and to improve the node efficiency to extend the life of the entire network. Especially in multi-hop protocol, a variety of models have been studied to improve energy efficiency and apply it in real system. In multi-hop protocol, we assume that energy consumption can be adjusted based on the distance between the sensor nodes. However, according to the physical property of the actual WSN, it's hard to establish this. In this paper, we propose low-power sub-cluster protocol to improve the energy efficiency based on the spread of distance. Compared with the previous protocols, the proposed protocol is energy efficient and can be effectively used in the wireless sensing network.

In this paper, we propose a Sensing Resolution-based Grouping(SRG) protocol for wireless sensor networks. SRG is intended for meeting the application's sensing objectives, where sensor nodes are densely deployed and have the determinate accuracy requirement. The primary contribution of this paper is active group header node selection and round-robin procedure, which increase the sensing accuracy and evenly distribute the node energy consumption. The second contribution is use of energy efficient intermediate node selection by considering group size and energy consumption. We present the design principle of SRG and provide simulation results.

In this paper, a data dissemination protocol that transmits data collected for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) is newly proposed, and the proposed proactive protocol takes into account energy consumption minimized and delay time disseminated. The well-known SPMS (Shortest Path Mined SPIN) forms the shortest path-based routing table obtained by Bellman Ford Algorithm (BFA) and disseminates data using a multi-hop path in order to minimize energy consumption. The mentioned properties of SPMS cause memory burden to create and maintain the routing tables. In addition, whenever BFA is executed, it is necessary to suffer from the energy consumption and traffic occurred. In order to overcome this problem, a proactive dissemination protocol using Residual Energy and Signal Strength, called RESS, is proposed in this paper. Simulation results show that RESS outperforms SPMS up to 84% in terms of the number of traffic messages and the transmitted delay time of RESS is similar to that of SPMS using the shortest path.
It is very important to prolong the lifetime of wireless sensor networks by using their limited energy efficiently, since it is not possible to change or recharge the battery of sensor nodes after deployment. LEACH protocol is a typical routing protocol based on the clustering scheme for the efficient use of limited energy. It is composed of a few clusters, which consist of head nodes and member nodes. Though LEACH starts from the supposition that all nodes have data transferred to a head, there must be some nodes having useless data in actual state. In this paper we propose a power saving scheme by making a member node dormant if previous sensed data and current data is same. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in comparison with original clustering algorithms. Simulation results validate our scheme has better performance in terms of the number of alive nodes as time evolves.

Preserving energy of sensor node in wireless sensor network is an effort to prolong the lifetime of network. Energy of sensor node is very crucial because battery powered and irreplaceable. Energy conservation of sensor node is an effort to reduce energy consumption in order to preserve resource for network lifetime. It can be achieved through efficient energy usage by reducing consumption of energy or decrease energy usage while achieving a similar outcome. In this paper, we propose optimization of energy efficient base station assisted hierarchical routing protocol in wireless sensor network, named BSAH, which use base station to controlled overhead of sensor node and create clustering to distribute energy dissipation and increase energy efficiency of all sensor node. Main idea of BSAH is based on the concept of BeamStar, which divide sensor node into group by base station uses directional antenna and maximize the computation energy in base station to reduce computational energy in sensor node for conservation of network lifetime. The performance of BSAH compared to PEGASIS and CHIRON based of hierarchical routing protocol. The simulation results show that BSAH achieve 25% and 30% of improvement on network lifetime.
