A Study on the Asymmetric Forging Process Using Building Block Method (빌딩블럭 방법을 이용한 비대칭 단조 공정에 관한 연구)

Finite Element Analysis on Residual Aligning Torque and Frictional Energy of a Tire with Detailed Tread Blocks (트레드 블록을 고려한 타이어의 잔류 복원 토크 및 마찰 에너지에 대한 유한 요소 해석)

  • The tread pattern of a tire has an important effect on tire performances such as handling, wear, noise, hydroplaning and so on. However, a finite element analysis of a patterned tire with detailed tread blocks has been limited owing to the complexity of making meshes for tread blocks and the huge computation time. The computation time has been shortened due to the advance in the computer technology. The modeling of tread blocks usually requires creating a solid model using a CAD software. Therefore it is a very complicated and time-consuming job to generate meshes of a patterned tire using a CAD model. A new efficient and convenient method for generating meshes of a patterned tire has been developed. In this method, 3-D meshes of tread pattern are created by mapping 2-D meshes of tread geometry onto 3-D tread surfaces and extruding them through tread depth. Then, the tread pattern meshes are assembled with the tire body meshes by the tie contact constraint. Residual aligning torque and frictional energy are calculated by using a patterned tire model and compared to the experimental results. It is shown that the calculated results of a patterned tire model are in a good agreement with the experimental ones.

Effective MCTF based on Correlation Improvement of Motion Vector Field (움직임 벡터 필드의 상관도 향상을 통한 효과적인 MCTF 방법)

  • This paper presents an effective motion estimation to improve the performance of the motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) which is a core part of the wavelet-based scalable video coding. The proposed scheme makes the motion vector field uniform by the modified median operation and the search strategies using adjacent motion vectors, in order to enhance the pixel connectivity which is significantly relevant to the performance of the MCTF. Moreover, the motion estimation with variable block sizes that reflects the features of frames is introduced for further correlation improvement of the motion vector field. Experimental results illustrate that the proposed method reduces the decomposed energy on the temporal high frequency subband frame up to 30.33% in terms of variance compared to the case of the full search with fixed block sizes.

  • This paper describes a DC-DC Boost converter for Thermoelectric Energy Harvesting. The designed converter boosts the $V_{DD}$ through a start-up block from a low output voltage of thermoelectric devices and the boosted $V_{DD}$ is used to operate the internal block circuits. When $V_{DD}$ reaches a predefined value, a detector circuit makes the start-up block turn off for minimizing current consumption. The final boosted $V_{OUT}$ is achieved by alternately operating the DC-DC converter for $V_{DD}$ and the other converter for final output $V_{OUT}$ according to the comparator output. Simulation results shows that the designed converter outputs 2.8V from an input voltage of 200mV. The area of the chip designed using a 0.35um CMOS process is $1.52mm{\times}0.95mm$ including pads.

Evaluation of Ballistic Performance of Ceramic-Tile-Inserted Metal Block (세라믹 타일이 삽입된 금속 블록의 최적 방호구조 연구)

  • A numerical simulation has been performed for the penetration of a long-rod penetrator into a metal block (ceramic-tile-inserted 4340-steel plate). The impact velocity is 1.5km/s at a normal incidence angle. The first two validations are conducted for a semi-infinite block measuring the depth of penetration (DOP). The material model of ceramic is the JH-2 (Johnson-Holmquist) model. The predicted DOP values are in close agreement with the experimental data. Then, the primary simulation is performed by varying the position of the confined ceramic tile for three types of thickness of ceramic tile. The residual velocity, residual mass and residual kinetic energy of the long-rod are obtained from the simulation. Based on these predicted values, the trend of the ballistic performance of the protective structure is estimated. In addition, the mass efficiency is calculated in order to determine the performance of the ceramic-tile-inserted metal block. Finally, the optimum protective structure is identified.

  • Transform, subband, and wavelet transform decompositions are powerful linear transformation tools in image coding because of their decorrelating effects on image pixels, the concentration of energy in a few coefficients, their multirat/multiresolution framework, and their frequency splitting, which allows for efficient coding matched to the statistics of each frequency band and to the characteristics of the human visulal system. Thus, a growingbody of research has bee performed to extend these tools in various kinds of modified formations. Hence, in this paper, an overall survey to achieve a general view on these transformation tools have been attempted. Starting from basic tools such as orthogonal transforms, lapped transforms, QMF(quadrature mirror filter) subband filter banks, and wavelet transforms, their hierarchical extensions, vector extensions, and linear time-varying extensions are investugated in detail.

Measurement of Air Tightness of Concrete Block and its Construction Joint from a Model Experiment (모형실험을 통한 콘크리트 블록 및 시공이음부의 기밀성 측정)

  • Underground compressed air energy storage (CAES) system in a lined rock cavern is considered one of the promising large-scale energy storage technologies. In this study, permeabilities of concrete lining block and its construction joint, which are the major components of an air tightness system of the undeground CAES, were measured from a model experiment. From the experiment, it was found that intrinsic permeability of construction joint was larger than that of concrete block by the order scale of $10^1{\sim}10^4$, so that it would be very important to control the quality of construction joints in-situ in order to secure air tightness of storage system. And the permeability of construction joint could be decreased as low as that of the concrete block by pasting an acryl-type adhesive on bonding surfaces. Higher degrees of water saturation of the concrete block resulted in the lower permeability, which is more preferable in the viewpoint of air tightness of storage cavern.

  • 스마트워터그리드(Smart Water Grid; 이하 SWG)란 현재 직면에 있는 물 부족, 물 안보, 물 복지 등 물에 대한 문제를 ICT 기술을 활용하여 물관리의 새로운 패러다임을 제시할 수 있는 융합 기술이다. 즉, SWG는 기존의 수자원 관리 시스템의 한계를 극복하기 위해 첨단 정보통신기술을 이용하는 고효율의 차세대 인프라 시스템으로 다양한 수원을 활용하고 물을 효율적으로 배분 관리 운송하여 수자원의 불균형을 해소하고, 첨단센서네트워크를 이용해 용수관리 전분야에 걸쳐 양방향 실시간으로 용수정보를 감시 대응하여 용수관리와 에너지 효율의 최적화된 메가시티(mega-city)에 적합한 지능형 물관리가 가능할 것으로 예상되는 시스템이다. 따라서 국토교통부 과제로 추진중인 SWG 연구단에서 개발한 스마트 워터 기술을 영종도 112 블록에 적용하여 지역주민의 물복지 향상 및 물 사용자에 대한 소비자 만족도를 높이는데 목적을 두고 데모플랜트를 구축 방안을 수립하였다. 영종도 112블록(인천 운서동 및 운북동 일원)은 인천 공촌정수장에서 해저관로를 지나 영종통합 가압장에서 가압 후 공항신도시배수지에서 물을 공급받고 있는 지역으로 면적은 $17.41km^2$, 인구는 약 17,000명, 물사용량 $8,000m^3$/일, 총관로연장 약 55km, 유수율이 겨우 73.2% 지역이다. SWG 적용성 평가를 위해 영종도 112 블록에 유수율 제고 및 운영비용 저감을 목적으로 데모플랜트를 구축하였다. 스마트 계측을 위해 스마트미터 469개(15~20mm), 디지털미터 172개(25~200mm), 누수유무센서 1개소, 다항목 수질측정기 1개소, 유량계 3개소, 수압계 5개소, AMI 시스템 641개 및 물효율 운영프로그램과 물정보 App서비스 기능으로 구성하였다. 물효율 운영프로그램은 실시간 수요량 예측, 배수지 운영에 따른 취수량, 송수량, 펌프 대수조합 및 운전스케줄링이 가능한 경제적 물공급 스케줄링, 관망상태 감시 및 제어(실시간 유량/수압 분석을 통한 누수분석) 기능이 탑재되어 통합운영센터에서 운영할 계획이다. 데모플랜트 운영을 통해 수자원의 효율적인 배분 및 공급, 유지관리 향상, 운영 비용 최소화 등의 결과를 바탕으로 신도시 및 기존도시의 물관리 정책수립에 활용할 수 있을 뿐만아니라 시간적 공간적 불균형 해소 및 물시장 발전에 크게 기여할 것으로 사료된다.

Synthesis and characterization of polymer electrolyte membrane for fuel cell including sulfonated bis (4-fluorophenyl) phenylphosphine oxide (술폰화된 비스(4-플루오로페닐) 페닐포스핀옥사이드를 포함한 연료전지용 고분자 전해질막의 합성과 특성분석)

  • This study relates to a polymer electrolyte membrane for improved performance fuel cell, were researched with respect to properties required for driving a fuel cell. The bis(4-fluorophenyl)phenyl phosphine oxide was sulfonated using fuming sulfuric acid. Synthetic hydrophilic oligomer and the hydrophobic oligomer and the block copolymers were prepared via aromatic nucleophilic substitution polycondensation. A block copolymer structure and degree of sulfonation was analyzed by $^1H$-NMR and gel permeation chromatography(GPC) analysis. Thermal stability was confirmed by thermogravimetric analysis(TGA), block copolymer was stable at high temperature(>$200^{\circ}C$), The ion conductivity was measured in order to demonstrate the performance of fuel cell. Synthesis membrane was the increase of temperature was improved conductivity up to 58 mS/cm due to the influence of the developed ion clusters. The phase separation of the polymer was observed to make AFM analysis.

G-RAID: A Green RAID Mechanism for enhancing Energy-Efficiency in Massive Storage System (G-RAID: 대용량 저장장치에서 에너지 효율향상을 위한 그린 RAID 기법)

  • In the global IT market, a lot of issues for responding to various environmental regulations emerged. In case of the data centers, it is consuming huge amounts of energy to maintain. So there have been various technical attempts as Consolidation, Virtualization, Optimization to efficiently manage energy and data storage to fix the problems. In this paper, we propose a new RAID(Redundant Array of Independent Disks) mechanism which is differing the intensity of power consumption and works to provide data protection and disaster recovery(backup, mirroring etc.) to stratify multiple volumes. G-RAID minimize the power consumption and the lower of I/O performance by selecting the volume depending on the frequency of data access while classifying the power consumption between volumes in storage system. Also, it is possible that a filesystem and block map information of G-RAID is processed by basic unit which is group located in a row for the blocks to work efficiently and can minimize the performance degradation of block mapping load by the access frequency in each groups. As a result, we obtained to elevate a little bit of response time caused by block relocation work, but showed the decrease of power consumption by 38%.
