  • With the advent of light-weight daily physiological signal monitoring sensors, intelligent inference and analysis method for physiological signal monitoring application, commercialized products and services are released. However, practical constraints still remain for daily physiological signal monitoring. Most devices provide rough health check function and analyze with randomly sampled measurements. In this work, we propose the probabilistic modeling of physiological signal analysis. This model represent the relationship between previous user measurement (history), other group`s type, model and current observation. From the experiment, we found that the personalized analysis with long term regular data shows reliable result and reduces the analyzing errors. In addition, participants agree that the personalized analysis shows reliable and adaptive information than other standard analysis method.

  • The head and face are the most complicated structures of the human body. However, unlike apparel products, many of the head and face related products are produced in unisex or one-size-fits-all. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a practical analysis that reflects these size structures. This study analyzed head and face measurements of men, women, and both men and women; its purpose lying in clarifying the differences and commonalities between the measurements of men and women and discovering the possibility of integrating analysis on measurements of men and women. 3D face and head measurement data of men and women from 20 to 29 years-old from Size Korea's 6th human body size data were analyzed for this study. The mutual 9 factors were extracted as the results of the three factor analyses (both men and women) separately and men and women integrated. However in the cluster analysis based on the 9 factors, men and women showed mutual characteristics and different landscape in group types and distribution. The commonalities and differences between men and women observed in this study should be applied to the sizes of head and face products.

  • A lot of information is contained in an image or a movie rather than in a text, and it is very important thing to extract context from them. In this study, we propose a method to detect an open/closed eye and determine the location of a pupil in an eye image which is extracted from a movie. The image is normalized using transformation into bipolarization with white and black color and horizontalizing, and we measure width and height of an eye. With these information, we can determine the open or closed eye and the location of the pupil. Experiments were done with 52 images of eyes from movies using this method, and we get good results with 98% of correctness in detection of open/closed eyes and 95% in detection of pupil's location.

  • Previous emotion studies employing facial expressions have focused on the differences between age groups for each of the emotion categories. Instead, Kim (2021) has compared representations of facial expressions in the lower-dimensional emotion space. However, he reported descriptive comparisons without statistical significance testing. This research used representational similarity analysis (Kriegeskorte et al., 2008) to directly compare empirical datasets from young, middle-aged, and old groups and conceptual models. In addition, individual differences multidimensional scaling (Carroll & Chang, 1970) was conducted to explore individual weights on the emotional dimensions for each age group. The results revealed that the old group was the least similar to the other age groups in the empirical datasets and the valence model. In addition, the arousal dimension was the least weighted for the old group compared to the other groups. This study directly tested the differences between the three age groups in terms of empirical datasets, conceptual models, and weights on the emotion dimensions.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust pupil detection method using rank order filter and cross-correlation. Potential pupil candidates are detected using rank order filter. Eye region is binarized using variable threshold to find eyebrow, and pupil candidates at the eyebrow are removed. The positions of pupil candidates are corrected, the pupil candidates are grouped into pairs based on geometric constraints. A similarity measure is obtained for two eye of each pair using cross-correlation, we select a pair with the largest similarity measure as a final pupil. The experiments have been performed for 500 images of the BioID face database. The results show that it achieves the high detection rate of 96.8% and improves about 11.6% than existing method.

  • This study was performed to measure the various dimensions of the head and face for Korean adults. Three hundred and eighteen males and two hundred and sixty females, age ranged 18 to 60, participated for this study. Thirty-six dimensions were selected to measure. Subjects were divided into three age groups - 18 to 29, 30 to 39, and 40 to 60 - for each sex. The data were analyzed ta see the differences between the age groups and sex using SAS program. Also, the results of this study were compared to the data of Japanese and US. army. The results showed that the 'ear length', 'bigonial breadth' and 'bitragion submandibular arc' increased as the age increased(p<0.01). However, not much of differences were shown between the age groups in most of other dimensions. Males were significantly bigger than females in every dimensions. The comparison between Korea and Japanese showed significant differences in many dimensions. Due to this reason, it is considered that more caution has to be exercised in using Japanese data for the Korean. The Americans showed to be significantly bigger than Korean in most dimensions. It showed that Koreans have more roundish face and wider nose ridge than Americans. The results of this study can be used to design the products that related to the head and face.

  • Recently, as a number of media are fused into a phone, the requirement of security of service provided on a mobile phone is increasing. For this, conventional cryptographic key based on password and security card is used in the mobile phone, but it has the characteristics which is easy to be vulnerable and to be illegally stolen. To overcome such a problem, the researches to generate key based on biometrics have been done. However, it has also the problem that biometric information is susceptible to the variation of environment, whereas conventional cryptographic system should generate invariant cryptographic key at any time. So, we propose new method of producing cryptographic key based on "Biometric matching-based key release" instead of "Biometric-based key generation" by using both face and iris information in order to overcome the unstability of uni-modal biometries. Also, by using mega-pixel camera embedded on mobile phone, we can provide users with convenience that both face and iris recognition is possible at the same time. Experimental results showed that we could obtain the EER(Equal Error Rate) performance of 0.5% when producing cryptographic key. And FAR was shown as about 0.002% in case of FRR of 25%. In addition, our system can provide the functionality of controlling FAR and FRR based on threshold.

  • In this paper, an active object tracking system basing on the pan/tilt-embedded stereo camera system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, once the face area of a target is detected from the input stereo image by using a YCbCr color model and phase-type correlation scheme and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the tracking system, the distance and 3D information of the target are effectively extracted in real-time. Basing on these extracted data the pan/tilted-embedded stereo camera system is adaptively controlled and as a result, the proposed system can track the target adaptively under the various circumstance of the target. From some experiments using 480 frames of the test input stereo image, it is analyzed that a standard variation between the measured and computed the estimated target's height and an error ratio between the measured and computed 3D coordinate values of the target is also kept to be very low value of 1.03 and 1.18% on average, respectively. From these good experimental results a possibility of implementing a new real-time intelligent stereo target tracking and surveillance system using the proposed scheme is finally suggested.

  • Objective: To investigate whether the accuracy of 3D laser scanning is influenced by the angles and number of scans. Methods: Using a 3D laser scanner, 10 manikins with facial markers were scanned at 7 horizontal angles (front view and at $20^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, and $60^{\circ}$ angles on the right and left sides). Three-dimensional facial images were reconstructed by 6 methods differing in the number and angles of scans, and measurements of these images were compared to the physical measurements from the manikins. Results: The laser scan images were magnified by 0.14 - 0.26%. For images reconstructed by merging 2 scans, excluding the front view; and by merging 3 scans, including the front view and scans obtained at $20^{\circ}$ on both sides; several measurements were significantly different than the physical measurements. However, for images reconstructed by merging 3 scans, including the front view; and 5 scans, including the front view and scans obtained at $20^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ on both sides; only 1 measurement was significantly different. Conclusions: These results suggest that the number and angle of scans influence the accuracy of 3D laser scanning. A minimum of 3 scans, including the front view and scans obtained at more than $45^{\circ}$ on both sides, should be integrated to obtain accurate 3D facial images.
