The Effects of Mother's Parenting Stress on Children's Problematic Behavior in the Times of Convergence : The Moderating Effects of Father's Parenting Participation (융복합시대 어머니의 양육 스트레스가 유아의 문제행동에 미치는 영향 : 아버지의 양육 참여의 조절효과)

  • This study aims to examine the moderating effects of father's parenting participation on the effects of mother's parenting stress on children's problematic behavior. To reveal this, the 3rd year data of Panel Study on Korean Children was analyzed. The results of the analysis are like below. First, mother's parenting stress was a main factor having effects on children's internalization and externalization. The correlation and regression analysis showed that mother's parenting stress had positive effects on children's internalization and externalization. Second, father's parenting participation had no effects on children's problematic behavior. Third, mother's parenting stress had effects on children's internalization based on the interactions with father's parenting participation. In other words, father's parenting participation had moderating effects on the effects of mother's parenting stress on children's contraction and depression/anxiety. Based on it, the educational and welfare suggestions were made.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of rearing involvement by fathers and their wives' supports on father parenting satisfaction. The subjects of this study were 290 fathers with children aged between 3 to 5. All fathers completed the Parent Satisfaction Scale(Duke, Rose, & Halverson ,1997), Generative Fathering Inventory(Lee, Lee & Cho, 1999) and Spousal Supports for Work and Parenting(Greenberger, Goldberg & Hamill, 1990). The data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis, independent samples t-test and hierarchical multiple regression. The major results of this study showed that rearing involvement by fathers, responsibility towards their child rearing, and parenting supports from their spouse were significant variables in predicting a father’s parenting satisfaction.

The Relationship Between Father's Participation in Child Rearing and Mother's Child Rearing Stress (어머니가 지각한 아버지의 양육 참여도와 어머니의 양육 스트레스와의 관계)

  • This study examined the relationship between father's participation in child rearing and mother's schild rearing stress. Mothers of 450 4-, 5- and 6-year-old children in six different kindergartens and daycare centers in Seoul and Kyungki-do area completed the Father's Participation in Child Rearing(Kyung Soon Choi, 1993) scale and the Parenting Daily Hassles(Cmic & Greenberg, 1990) scale. Data were analyzed statistically by SPSS. Results show that higher father's participation in child rearing results in lower child rearing stress for mothers. Especially, father's participation in areas of parenting and housework is important factor influence mother's decrease child rearing stress.

Effectiveness of 「Authentic Parental Competence」 Consultant Development Program: Focusing on Parental Competence of Mothers with Preschool and Elementary School-Age Children (「부모 참 역량」 컨설턴트 양성 프로그램의 효과성 연구: 유아와 아동 어머니의 역량을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and verify the effectiveness of consultant development program enhancing 'authentic parental competence' of the mothers with preschool and school-age children. The objects of this study were 14 mothers with preschool and school-age children. In order to examine the changes of the mother's parental competence, t-test and qualitative analysis on in-depth interviews were conducted. The results of this study were as follows. First, this program had a positive effect on all the sub-factors of mother's 'authentic parental competence'. Second, mothers mentioned that they changed their parenting competence(change of parenting knowledge, beginning of reflective attitude on their parental role), self-system competence(understanding and respective attitude for the mother herself, self-awareness as a spouse, sweet glances and warm understanding as a parent), social competence(sympathetic understanding of her acquaintances, attempt a role as consultant) after this program. Based on these results, the implications and limitations were also discussed.

The Effects of Mothers' Parenting Efficacy on Children's Emotional Regulation : The Role of Mothers' Perception of Fathers' Involvement in Child Care (어머니의 양육효능감이 유아의 정서조절력에 미치는 영향 : 어머니가 지각한 아버지 양육참여도의 역할)

  • This study sought to illuminate a moderating effect of mother's perception of father's involvement on the associations between mother's parenting efficacy and child's emotional regulation. The participants in this study comprised 292 mothers whose children were aged between 4 and 5. The children were attending child care centers or kindergartens located in Seoul or Gyeonggi-do province in Korea. The questionnaires on mother's parental efficacy, father's parental involvement, and their children's emotional regulation were distributed to mothers through their child care centers or kindergartens. The results indicated a significant correlation among the variables. Although mothers' parenting efficacy had relatively higher effects upon their children's emotional regulation than their fathers' involvement, the effect of a fathers' involvement was still significant. In particular, the fathers' involvement in leisure activities moderated the effects of the mothers' parenting efficacy on children's emotional comprehension and regulation(one of the sub-factors of emotional regulation).

Related Variable about Maternal Parenting Stress Living in Urban and Rural Ares (도시지역과 농촌지역 어머니의 자녀양육 스트레스에 대한 관련변인 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of maternal parenting stress through early childhood between urban(Seoul and Incheon) and rural area(Iksan and Kimpo). The subjects were 286 unemployed mothers who have less than 5-year-old children. The statistics used for this data were frequency, percentile, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression. The finding from the present study certainly suggested that mother's level of self-differentiation, marital satisfaction, father's parenting support turned out to a significant variables on maternal parenting stress. Results of the regression analysis that the etiologic model of this study was more proper to urban than rural area, and father's parenting support is the most effective variable in predicting maternal parenting stress in both area. Implications based on this study are as follows ; parenting education programs to encourage for father's parenting support with be developed, and various empirical studies about maternal parenting stress in with area will be needed.

Structural Relations among Infants' Temperament, Fathers' Parenting Participation, and Infants' Social and Emotional Behavior Development (영아의 기질, 아버지의 양육참여와 영아의 사회·정서 행동발달간의 구조적 관계)

  • The objective of this study is to determine the structural relationships among the infant's temperament, father's involvement in child-rearing, and the infant's social and emotional behavior. To this end, research was conducted with 330 parents of infants aged 1 and 2 in 55 day care centers located in J city and I city, Jeollabukdo. Frequency analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural model equation analysis were conducted using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 21.0. First, the results of the structural model equation analysis showed that the infant's temperament had a negative correlation with leisure and guidance, while it had a positive correlation with activity and impulsivity, which are external manifestations of their social and emotional behavior. Father's involvement in child-rearing had a negative correlation with the adaptability and mood aspects of the child's temperament, and also with general anxiety, an internal aspect of his or her social and emotional behavior. Social and emotional behavior had a positive correlation with the approach avoidance aspect of the infant's temperament. Second, according to the results of the analysis of the route between the variables, infant temperament was found to be a significant route, having a statistically negative correlation with father's involvement in child-rearing. The results of this study showed that infant's temperament and father's involvement in child-rearing had effects on the infant's social and emotional behavior, and suggested the importance of having a proper understanding of the educational implications of the father's involvement in child-rearing, in terms of its effects on the infant's social and emotional behavior.

Relationships among Maternal Psychological Life Position, Involvement in Child-rearing and Child-rearing and Childrens' Emotional Intelligence (어머니의 심리적 자세 및 양육참여도와 유아의 정서지능과의 관계 연구)

  • This study examined the relationships among maternal psychological life position, involvement in child-rearing and children's emotional intelligence. The subjects were 267 four and five-year-old children and their mothers from five child care centers located in Seoul. Children's emotional intelligence was assessed by the teacher rating scale developed by Kin(1998) and questionnaires were used to assess the maternal psychological life position and involvement in child-rearing. Data was analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Results demonstrated a correlation between the level of the children's emotional intelligence and their gender and age. The strongest predictor of children's emotional intelligence was the child's age.

A Study of First-time Fathers on Their Knowledge and Confidence in Newborn (첫 신생아 아버지의 양육 지식과 양육 자신감에 관한 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to identify the parenting knowledge and confidence toward a first-time father of a newborn. The participants were 136 men in 2015. A descriptive correlation study design was used. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, pearson's correlation, t-test, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test and one-way ANOVA, using the SPSS statistics 20.0 for windows program. The parenting knowledge and confidence were significantly correlated by education respectively, and they had meaningful correlation. The father role in newborn parenting should be emphasized. So, parenting is necessary on their participation. It is urgently needed establishing a social climate and culture for child rearing conditions and inducing fathers to actively participate. Furthermore, it is important to develop the education program for newborn's father. The findings are expected to contribute to the effective educational program for the first-time fathers in order to improve their knowledge and confidence.

The Relationship between Multi-cultural Family Father's Participation in their Children's Fostering and Children's Vocabulary (여성 결혼 이민자의 다문화 가정에서 아버지의 양육참여실태와 유아의 어휘력과의 관계)

  • This study was to investigate 1) the effect of the variables (age, education level, average monthly income, occupation) relating to the multi-cultural family father(MF) on children's vocabulary(CV), 2) the relationship between the father's participation in their children's fostering(FPCF) and CV. FPCF in 24 MFs and CV were evaluated using the questionnaire, interview. The results are as follows: 1) There were significant correlations among father's education level, average income, occupation, and CV. FPCF scores. 2) There were no significant correlation between father's age and CV. 3) There were significant correlations between FPCF scores and CV. And some interview examples were illustrated in this paper.
