Mass Balance Using the LOICZ Model in Gomso and Geunso Bays (LOICZ 모델을 이용한 곰소만, 근소만 갯벌어장 물질수지 산정)

  • Recently, Gomso Bay saw a decrease in the production of manila clam, which accounted for 17.8 % of production across the whole country in 2015, while Geunso Bay saw an increase that raised its contribution to 49.1 %. The tidal flats in these bays are inhabited by various benthos, and material flows in and out according to the tide. It is essential to understand the mass balance of these regions while giving consideration to the characteristics of these tidal flats. In this study, we compared areas where aquaculture farms were located in Gomso Bay with those without from May to August 2015. We divided the region into three sea areas (Sector I, Sector II, and Control), and the mass balance was estimated using the LOICZ model. As a result, the DIP of Sector II in Gomso Bay and another region in Geunso Bay, where a manila clam farm was located, were found to be -207.2 kg/day and 77.2 kg/day. The DIN was -4,996.7 kg/day and 926.6 kg/day. These results suggest that Gomso Bay han a higher density than Geunso Bay, which is thought to be mainly due to the feeding action of organisms. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy tidal flat ecosystem and to sustain the production of manila clams, sustainable management to reduce the high density of tidal flat farms is necessary.

Estimating Benthic Nutrient Fluxes at the Sediment-Water Interface for the Management of Tidal Flats in Gomso and Geunso Bays (곰소만·근소만 갯벌어장 관리를 위한 퇴적물-해수 경계면에서 영양염 플럭스 추정)

  • It is important to understand interactions in the sediment-water environment because nitrate (N) and phosphorus (P) nutrient fluxes released into overlying water can represent a significant fraction of the total nutrient requirement for primary productivity. In this study, we analyzed and estimated benthic nutrient fluxes at the sediment-water interface, investigating environmental conditions in Gomso and Geunso Bays. Also, we compared previously reported nutrient flux data to identify regional differences. As a result, benthic nutrient fluxes in Beopsan were DIN: $6.14mmol\;m^{-2}d^{-1}$ and DIP: $0.32mmol\;m^{-2}d^{-1}$ higher than other survey sites. Sediment COD were $4.0-10.8mg/g{\cdot}dry$, and environmental deterioration was observed due to organic pollution. If no solution is found for tidal flat farm management, problems such as a decrease in aquaculture production will follow. Therefore, long-term monitoring of tidal flat environments should be pursued to enable the sustainable use of biological resources.

Studies on the Environmental Characteristics of the Breeding Ground in the Kogum-sudo, Southern Part of Korean Peninsula I. Seasonal Succession of Phytoplankton Population (거금수도내 양식어장의 해양환경특성 I. 식물플랑크톤 군집의 계절변동)

  • Field studies on the seasonal succesion of phytoplankton population were carried out at the 25 stations of the breeding ground in Kogum-sudo, Southern coast of Korean peninsula in Feburuary, April, August and October, 1993. Sixty four species belonging to 40 genera were identified. Predominant species were mainly centric diatoms throughout the four seasons, two centric diatoms, Skeletonema costatum and Thalassiosira sp. and a pennate diatom, Thaiassionema nitzschioides in the winter; two pennate diatoms, Thaiassionema nitzschioides and Asterionella kariana, and especially a dinoflagellate, Heterocapsa triquetra (station 10) in the spring, two centric diatoms, S. costatum and Chaetoceros diadema in the summer; and a centric diatom, Rhizosolenia alata and a pennate diatom, Bacillaria paxillifer in the fall. The main red tide organisms in the breeding ground were dinoflagellates, Prorocentrum dentatum, P. minimum, P. triestinum, Ceratium furro, Gymnodinium sanguineum, Noctiluca scintillans, H. triquetra, Scrippsiella trichoidea and a diatom S. costatum in the Kogum Sudo. Seasonal phytoplankton cell numbers were in a wide range between $8.8\times10^3$ cells/l and 1.4\times10^6$ cells/l; The seasonal average cell numbers were $12.2\times10^4\pm5.9\times10^4$ cells/l $(mean\;\pm\;standard\; diviation)$ in the winter, $3.3\times10^4\pm1.4\times10^4$ cells/l in the spring, $48.4X10^4\pm40.0\pm10^4$ cells/l in the summer, and $3.6\times10^4\pm1.9\times10^4$ cells/l in the fall, respectively.

Monthly Variation of Phytoplankton Composition and Water quality in Cupped Oyster Crassostrea gigas Culture Area in Iwon, Korea (이원면 굴, Crassostrea gigas 양식어장의 월별 식물플랑크톤 종조성 및 수질환경 변화)

  • Phytoplankton species composition and ecological index (diversity, evenness, richness and dominance) were analysed from April 2013 to March 2014 at 10 stations of cupped oyster, Crassostrea gigas culture area in Iwon coast, Korea. Seasonal and positional variation of phytoplankton standing crops, biomass, dominant species and water quality were distinctively different according to occasionally inflow of Iwon dam reservoired water. The composition of phytoplankton species were Bacillariophyceae 98, Dinophycease 22, Chlorophycease 13, Cyanophyceae 8, Silicofalgellate 4, Euglenophyceae 2, Cryptophyceae 1 species. The most dominant species was Bacillariophyceae as 64.0%. The highest biomass of phytoplankton recorded in September as $40,910{\times}10^3$ cell/L at the station 1, near from inland water inflow area. Ecological indices (diversity, richness, evenness, and dominance index), used for structural change of phytoplankton community and water quality (temperature, dissolved oxygen, salinity) showed difference of spatiotemporal property also.

Changes of Food Components and Lipid Peroxides in Rainbow Trout with Growth (무지개송어의 성숙에 따른 식품성분 및 지질과산화물의 변화)

  • The present study was carried out to compare the difference of proximate composition and lipid peroxides in juvenile(80~120g) and adult(670~690g) rainbow trout(Oncorhynchus mykiss). There was a marked increase in lipid content with growth. The fatty acids of juvenile rainbow trout was composed of saturates, monoenes and polyenes of 30.18%, 37.81% and 25.09%, respectively. Adult rainbowtrout showed higher content in monoenes and lower content in polyenes. The composition of amino acid was similar. In both groups, glutamic acid, aspaitic acid, histidine were abundant. The lipid peroxides, malondialdehydes and lipofuscin, were not increased significantly with growth.

An Experimental Study on Ground Vibration Equations by Underwater Blasting at Construction Site (수중발파 현장에서의 진동추정식에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, quantitative ground vibration values and damping coefficient produced by underwater blasting were measured and analyzed. Also, hydrospace noise in aquafarm and noise in atmosphere as well as ground vibrations were measured, and maximum values of these results were 86,8 dB(A), 147,8dB(A), 0.244 cm/s, respectively, With these results, vibration influence about snakehead (channa argus) and structures were examined. the damage of those was proved that is not. Equations of vibration ($V_{50%}=1.507SD^{-0.536},\;V_{95%}=2,171SD^{-0.536}$) and hydrospace noise ($SL=293.2SD^{-0.164}$) were presented from quantitative experiment results. respectively. The results of the study may be applied for the evaluation of the influence on aquafarm as a basic data before having main underwater blasting at construction sites.

  • The purpose of this study aims at analyzing the profit from manage a fishing place in the cultivating fishery by embankment. With the spread of the living pattern laying stress on the quality of life and the introduction of a 5-day workweek system, demand for tourism and leisure are increasing steadily and available time for them is getting longer. However, those newly-increasing demands for tourism and leisure will have a tendency of focusing on adventurous and experiential activities. From the point of view, it is needed to develop something new that can meet those kinds of demands for an experiential tourism and activity, particularly based on the cultivating fishery by embark a bay. Marine recreational fishing is one of the most popular outdoor leisures and the number of people who are participating is sharply increasing more and more because of the increasement of their income and demand for marine leisure. In this regard, this paper is focused on the economic analysis a fishing place in the cultivating fishery by embankment. According to the analysis result, the cultivating fishery by embankment is a profitable business operating fishing place in their place.

An Analysis on the Factors Affecting Aquaculture Farmers' Necessity of Aquafarm Management System (어업인의 양식어장 관리제도 도입 필요성 인식에 대한 결정요인 분석)

  • This study aims to analyze the aquaculture farmers awareness of aquafarm management system influenced by socio-economic, environmental, and other factors using ordered logit model focused on aquafarm resting system. The survey data were obtained from 94 aquaculture farmers in Gyeongsangnamdo and Jeollanamdo province as a cross sectional data in 2015. This paper estimates the impact of socio-economic, environmental, and other characteristics, such as region, working period, productivity, environmental condition of fishing field, expected effectiveness of the system, and subject of responsibility on fishing field management. Based on the result, lastly, it suggests some implications to promote aquaculture farmers perception and participation in aquafarm resting system. The main results are as follows; the aquaculture farmers consciousness of the system is not affected by working period, productivity, and environmental condition of fishing field. But it is influenced by region, expected effectiveness of the system, and subject of responsibility on fishing field management. While it has a positive relationship with expected effectiveness of the system, it has a negative relationship with object who has responsibility on fishing field management.

  • This paper tries to suggest a rational proposal for the distribution of compensation of common property fisheries damages caused by a large scale coastal reclamation. For the purpose the paper introduces the approach of alternative cost of the use of fishing ground. The background of the paper is the legal conflict between tenants and non-tenants, both of whom are common owners of seaweed cultivation ground, in the distribution of compensation for damages. In principal, so far as the seaweed cultivation right is a common property of the fishing association, the compensation is also a common property of it. Therefore the distribution method of the compensation entirely depends on the decision of the association. But in case that the numbers of non-tenants is larger than those of tenants, the distribution of the compensation is usually unfavorable to the tenants even though the latter is the key contributor to the realization of present value of the common property. The paper aims to show an appropriate distribution method based on the economic principle of optimal distribution. In others words, the value added to the economic value of alternative use of the fishing ground should be distributed to the tenants. the value amount of alternative use of the fishing ground should be equally distributed to the members of the association.

Analysis of risk factors for safety accidents for fisher onboard aquaculture fisheries management vessel (양식어업 어장관리선에 승선하는 어선원의 안전사고 위험요인 분석)

  • This study aimed to quantitatively analyze the risk using data from 329 safety accidents that occurred in aquaculture fisheries management vessels over the recent five years (2018-2022). For quantitative risk analysis, the Bayesian network proposed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) was used to analyze the risk level according to the fishing process and cause of safety accidents. Among the work processes, the fishing process was analyzed to have the highest risk, being 12.5 times that of the navigation, 2.7 times that of the maintenance, and 8.8 times that of the loading and unloading. Among the causes of accidents, the hull and working environment showed the highest risk, being 1.7 times that of fishing gear and equipment, 4.7 times that of machinery and equipment, and 9.4 times that of external environment. By quantitatively analyzing the safety accident risks for 64 combinations of these four work processes and four accident causes, this study provided fundamental data to reduce safety accidents occurring in aquaculture fisheries management vessels.
