Diets containing 3000 kcal/kg at the crude protein (CP) level of 40% (Diet 1) and 4000 kcal/kg at the CP level of 50% (Diet 2) were fed to the juvenile rockfish, Sebastes schlegeli (35.6 g) at 3-4% body weight for a period of 28 days. Diet 2 promoted significantly higher growth and feed efficiency than Diet 1. Oxygen uptake increased with increasing body weight. The oxygen uptake-body weight relationship of diets 1 and 2 were best expressed by y=0.3218 $e^{0.0592x}$ (R=0.8494) and y=0.3612 $e^{0.0532x}$ ($R^2$=0.8805), respectively. Assimilation efficiency (AE), gross growth efficiency ( $K_1$) and net growth efficiency ( $K_2$) of the fish fed on Diet 2 were 73.8, 16.0 and 22.6%, respec- tively. Fish fed on Diet 2 showed significantly higher AE, $K_1$ and $K_2$ than those fed on Diet 1. Hence Diet 2 con- taining 4000 kcal/ kg with crude protein of 50% is recommended for the Korean rockfish.kfish.

Mature foliose thalli of P. suborbiculata f. Iatifalia were collected at Chindo, Chonnam Prefecture on 24 February 1996. Growth and reproduction were observed at selected temperatures (5~30tt photon flux densities (10-80 ${\mu}$mol m$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$) and photoperiods (14L:I00, 10L:140). The thalli grew fastest at 15 t under both photoperiods and produced archeospores at 10-$25^{\circ}C$ under both photoperiods, but zygotospores at 10-15$^{\circ}C$ under 10L:140 and at only 15$^{\circ}C$: under 14L:I00. Size and shape of the thalli at 1$0^{\circ}C$: under short photoperiod were similar to the field materials. The optimum temperature and photoperiod for growth of the conchocelis colony were 20-$25^{\circ}C$: under both photoperiods. The foliose thalli and the conchocelis filaments could not survive at 30 t. Conchosporangial branches were produced at 15-$25^{\circ}C$ under 14L:100 and 10L:140.

This study was conducted to study the reproductive cycle in female fusilier, Caesio diagramma by using the histological methods. Histological changes of the ovary were well correlated with the patterns of gonadosomatic index (GSI) and hepatosomatic index (HSI). GSI was increased in April as the value of HSI increase and reached to its maximum in May and June. Oocytes at the chromatin-nucleolus and peri-nucleolus stages were observed in the ovary throughout the year. In April, oocytes containing yolk appeared in ovaries of a few fishes. Most oocytes appearing in May and June belonged to the tertiary yolk stage. Frequency of oocytes appearance at the tertiary yolk stage in May and June was higher than that of the other months. Moreover, the empty follicles and atretic oocytes were observed in the ovaries with many vitellogenic oocytes during these two months. Thereafter, oocytes of the yolk stage disappeared in September. The spawning period of C. diagramma is from the month of April to June, and this species belongs to an asynchronous and multiple spawner.

To investigate the effects of hydromechanical and textural characteristics of sediment deposits on the cultivation of Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum surface and sub-surface core sediments were collected seasonally in Gomso tidal flat. Grain size distribution were analyzed to investigate the annual variation of sediment texture. In winter unimodal distribution of grain size with the peak at $5\phi$ is dominant However, during the summer sediment texture become a little bit coarser and grain size distribution shows the peaks at $4\~5 \phi$. Optimum sediment texture for the cultivation of manila clam, R. philippinarum was found to be sandy silt in which mean Brain size was between 4 and $5 \phi$ with the sand content less than $50\%$ and clay content of $5\~10\%$. Mechanical and hydrological characteristics of sediment deposits were also studied in the laboratory and the results were applied to the numerical simulation for the behavior of surface sediment subjected to the cyclic loading from sea-water level change. Results of numerical simulation illustrate that the permeability of sediment had to be maintained in the range of $10^{-11}\sim10^{-12}m^2$ to ensure the proper sedimentological environment for the cultivation of manila clam, R. philippinarum. The deposits of virtually impermeable mud layer, with the threshold thickness of 4 cm, would be very hazardous to clam habitat.

In this paper, a method to calculate the ultimate compressive strength of welded one-sided stiffened plates simply supported along all edges is proposed. At first initial imperfections such as distortions and residual stresses due to welding are predicted by using simplified methods. Then, the collapse modes of the stiffened plate are assumed and collapse loads for each mode are calculated. Among these loads, the lowest value is selected as the ultimate strength of the plate. Collapse modes are assumed as follows ; (1) Overall buckling of the stiffened plate$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener bending (2) Local buckling of the plate part$\rightarrow$Local collapse of the plate part$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener yielding (3) Local buckling of the plate part$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener berthing (4) Local buckling of the plate part$\rightarrow$Local collapse of the plate part$\rightarrow$Overall collapse due to stiffener tripping. The elastic large deflection analysis based on the Rayleigh-Ritz method is carried out, and plastic analysis assuming hinge lines is also carried out. Collapse load is defined as the cross point of the two analysis curves. This method enables the utimate strength to be calculated with small computing time and a good accuracy. Using the present method, characteristics of the stiffener including torsional rigidity, bending and tripping can also be clarified.

This article aims to explain how Gangnam, as a model and standard of compressed urbanization in South Korea, was created. Gangnam and Gangnam-style urbanization need attention not only because they contrast with Korea's urbanization in the past as well as urbanization in the West but also they provide an important model in contemporary Korea's politics, economy and culture. However, there are little studies of how Gangnam's peculiar urbanism was created. To fill this gap, this article will first capture Gangnam's peculiar urbanism as a material landscape and sociocultural lifestyle. Gangnam-style urbanism is (a) materially characterized by high-rise apartment complexes owned by the middle and upper class for dwelling and asset growth and (b) socio-culturally characterized by political conservatism, public indifference, competition over academic performance, appearance, and fashion, and nightlife. Then it will show Gangnam's archetype was created in a spatially and temporally compressed way in and through the spatial selectivity of Korean anti-communist authoritarian developmental state strategies: (1) anti-communism led to the diffusion and accommodation of the population through apartments in Gangnam in the context of its confrontation with North Korea and the fast-growing population of Seoul; (2) military authoritarianism excluded the low-income class and the urban poor from urban development; and (3) the developmental state adopted selective housing policy which treated construction companies and the middle class preferentially through exceptional zoning and price distortions, promoting the construction of apartment in Gangnam and its resultant uneven development.
