Characterization of Electrochemical Ammonia Electrolysis Using a Platinum Electrode for Anodic Reaction (Pt포일 양극을 이용한 전기화학적 암모니아 수전해 특성 연구)

  • In this study, a water electrolysis was studied to investigate the effect of ammonia on current density and H2 gas production. A H type cell with three electrodes was used and KOH solution was used as electrolyte. The conventional platinum foil was used for working electrode, whereas nickel foam was used for counter electrode. CV experiment was performed to see the activity of ammonia oxidation reaction. In addition, CP experiment was done to examine the dependence of Faraday efficiency of hydrogen on current density and NH3 concentration. The CV result shows the 0.5M NH3 concentration required for highest current density and reliable operation. The CP result shows the increased current density leads to higher H2 generation. The higher H2 production and subsequent energy efficiency was observed for 0.5M NH3 using a Pt/13%Rh coil for a cathode as compared to those in water electrolysis.

Effect of immobilization of the recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP-2) on anodized implants coated with heparin for improving alveolar ridge augmentation in beagle dogs: Radiographic observations (양극산화 임플란트 표면에 적용된 헤파린과 골형성단백질(rhBMP-2)이 치조골 증대에 미치는 효과: 방사선학적 평가)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of immobilization of the recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein 2 (rhBMP-2) on anodized titaum implants coated with heparin to enhance the vertical alveolar ridge augmentation in the supraalveolar peri-implant defect region. Materials and methods: 18 pure titanium implants (7.0 mm in length, 3.5 mm in diameter) were manufactured for this study. All implants were anodized and designed insertion reference line marked with laser at the apical 2.5 mm from the fixture platform. Implantation of 6 noncoated anodized implants (Control group), 6 anodized implants physically adsorbed with rhBMP-2 by dip and dry method (BMP group) and 6 anodized implants chemically immobilized 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (DOPA)-heparin/ rhBMP-2 (Hep-BMP group) was performed in the both mandibular of three male adult beagle dogs using split-mouth design. Radiologic examinations were performed immediately after implant placement and 4 and 8 weeks after implant placement. The amount of mesio-distal bone augmentation was evaluated by measuring the vertical distance from the platform to the marginal bone. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way analysis of variance (SPSS version 18.0) and multiple comparison analysis of The Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Statistical significance was established at the 5% significant level. Results: At the 4 weeks vertical alveolar ridge augmentation of Control group, BMP group and Hep-BMP group is $0.09{\pm}0.22mm$, $1.02{\pm}0.72mm$, and $1.29{\pm}0.51mm$, At the 8 weeks $0.11{\pm}1.26mm$, $1.11{\pm}0.58mm$, $1.59{\pm}0.79mm$ according to radiographic observations. The two experimental groups showed a significantly increasing in vertical bone height compared with the control group (P<.05). However, there is no significant difference between the BMP group and Hep-BMP group (P>.05). Conclusion: The rhBMP-2 coated implants were enhanced the vertical bone growth in the supraalveolar peri-implant defect area. However, there is no significant difference between chemically and physically coating method.

Electrochemical Behaviors of Graphite/LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2 Cells during Overdischarge (흑연과 LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2로 구성된 완전지의 과방전 중 전기화학적 거동분석)

  • As the use of lithium-ion secondary batteries is rapidly increasing due to the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market, the disposal and recycling of spent batteries after use has been raised as a serious problem. Since stored energy must be removed in order to recycle the spent batteries, an effective discharging process is required. In this study, graphite and NCM622 were used as active materials to manufacture coin-type half cells and full cells, and the electrochemical behavior occurring during overdischarge was analyzed. When the positive and negative electrodes are overdischarged respectively using a half-cell, a conversion reaction in which transition metal oxide is reduced to metal occurs first in the positive electrode, and a side reaction in which Cu, the current collector, is corroded following decomposition of the SEI film occurs in the negative electrode. In addition, a side reaction during overdischarge is difficult to occur because a large polarization at the initial stage is required. When the full cell is overdischarged, the cell reaches 0 V and the overdischarge ends with almost no side reaction due to this large polarization. However, if the full cell whose capacity is degraded due to the cycle is overdischarged, corrosion of the Cu current collector occurs in the negative electrode. Therefore, cycled cell requires an appropriate treatment process because its electrochemical behavior during overdischarge is different from that of a fresh cell.

An Electrochemical Evaluation on Corrosion Properties of Welding Zone of Stainless Steel by GTAW (GTAW에 의한 스테인리스강 용접부위의 부식특성에 관한 전기화학적 평가)

  • GTAW was carried out to the austenitic 304(STS 304) and 22 APU stainless steels. In this case, difference of the corrosion characteristics of welded zone with STS 304 and 22APU mentioned above was investigated with electrochemical methods. Vickers hardness of weld metal in case of STS 304 (Hv-250) showed a relatively higher value than this of 22 APU(Hv-217). The corrosion current densities of weld metal of 22APU and heat affected zone of STS 304 were observed at the highest value compared to those of other welding zone respectively. This is probably because chromium depletion field due to chromium carbide formed to weld metal of 22APU and to heat affected zone of STS 304 can preferentially easily be corroded with more active anode than other fields. Consequently it is thought that application of the other welding methods like as laser welding or using of the optimum filler metals is necessary to improve the corrosion resistance of welding parts of these steels.

Copper Oxide Growing Properties by Series Arc at the Contacts of Wires in 44V AC and DC (44V AC 및 DC 전원에서 직렬아크에 의한 전선 접속부에서의 산화물 성장 특성)

  • 본 논문에서는 44V AC 및 DC전원에서 직렬아크에 의한 전선 접속부에서의 산화물 성장 특성에 대하여 실험, 분석하였다. 실험에 사용된 전선은 동전선과 황동선으로 각각 지름 1.0mm을 사용하였으며, 교류의 경우 3가지 접속조건, 직류의 경우 4가지의 접속 조건으로 하여 전선 접촉면에서 직렬아크가 발생하였을 때 2A, 3A, 4A의 전류에서 산화물의 성장 특성과 접촉면 양단의 전압강하 변화, 산화물의 성장 길이 및 방향, 온도 분포 등에 대하여 분석하였다. 실험, 분석결과, 동전선과 동전선의 접속에서 가장 산화물의 성장이 잘 이루어짐을 볼 수 있었으며, 교류에서는 접촉면을 중심으로 좌우로, 직류에서는 접촉면을 중심으로 +극(양극) 방향으로만 산화물이 성장함을 볼 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과는 AC 및 DC 전원에서의 전기안전을 위한 기술 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

전북대학교 플라즈마 풍동용 0.4 MW 분절형 아크 플라즈마 발생 장치 구축

  • 전북대학교 고온플라즈마 응용연구센터는 교육과학기술부 기초연구사업 중 고가연구장비 구축사업의 일환으로, 고 엔탈피, 초음속 유동 환경을 모사하여, 항공우주, 군사기기, 핵융합 분야 등의 고온 재료 개발을 위한 기초 연구 장치로써, 0.4MW급 플라즈마 풍동 장치를 구축하고 있다. 0.4MW 플라즈마 풍동 장치의 플라즈마 발생부는 DC 전원 공급장치와 디스크 형태의 양극과 음극 사이에 동일 형태의 간극을 삽입한 0.4MW급 분절형 아크 플라즈마 토치로 구성되었으며, 토치에서 발생된 아크 플라즈마는 노즐을 통과하며 마하 2~4의 초음속을 나타내도록 설계 제작되었다. 시험 챔버는 노즐에서 나온 초음속 플라즈마의 특성 및 재료 시험을 위한 3차원 이송식 기판이 장착되어 있으며, 고 엔탈피 유동을 관측하기 위한 광학창을 구비하였다. 시험 챔버 하류에는 유동 안정을 위한 디퓨저(diffuser)가 설치되어 있으며, 디퓨저(diffuser)로부터 배출되는 고온가스는 열교환기를 통해 냉각된 후 진공펌프를 통해 대기로 배출되게 된다. 장치의 압력조절을 위하여 $1,000m^3/min$의 용량의 진공펌프 시스템이 설치될 예정이며 가스공급장치, 냉각수 공급장치, 디퓨져, 열교환기는 1MW급 용량으로 설계 제작되었다. 본 장치는 400kW의 전원 공급, 15 g/s의 공기유량 주입 시 약 13 MJ/kg의 고엔탈피를 가진, mach 2~4의 초음속 유동을 나타내는 것을 특징으로 한다.

  • Nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) lithium-ion batteries(LIBs) are increasingly prominent in the energy storage system due to their high energy density and cost-effectiveness. However, they face significant challenges, such as rapid capacity fading and structural instability during high-voltage operation cycles. Addressing these issues, numerous researchers have studied the enhancement of electrochemical performance through the coating of NCM cathode materials with substances like metal oxides, lithium composites, and polymers. Coating these cathode materials serves several critical functions: it acts as a protection barrier against electrolyte decomposition, mitigates the dissolution of transition metals, enhances the structural integrity of the electrode, and can even improve the ionic conductivity of the cathode. Ultimately, these improvements lead to better cycle stability, increased efficiency, and enhanced overall battery life, which are crucial for the advancement of NCM-based lithium-ion batteries in high-demand applications. So, this paper will review various cathode coating materials and examine the roles each plays in improving battery performance.

  • A mathematical dynamic model of fuel cell was formulated in order to design the control system which will meet the control object. The control objective is set to regulate the airflow in the load change by utilization of airflow and the pressure difference between anode and cathode is maintained below a limit range. Simulation result of 10kW polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) clearly demonstrates that response time need to be less. than 1 seconds for the control requirements. Besides, pressure difference was allowed in pressure range less than 0.01 atm.

  • Much attention has been given to an electrochemical reduction process for converting uranium oxide to uranium metal in molten salt. The process has the versatility of being adopted for reducing other actinide and rare-earth metals from their oxides. Using the metal oxide to be reduced as a integrated cathode designed originally and inert conductors as anodes, oxygen anions are removed from the cathode and oxidized at the surface of the anodes in a molten salt cell. However, the electrochemical properties of alkali and alkali-earth metal oxides in molten salt have not been investigated thoroughly, which made the process incomplete when it is considered as a unit process in a back-end fuel cycle. It is well known that cesium and strontium Isotopes in spent fuel are main contributors for head load. The properties of cesium, strontium, and barium oxides such as the dissolution rates and reduction potentials in molten LiC1 dissolving $Li_2O$ are examined.

Design of Dual Beam Automotive Laser Radar (차량용 듀얼 빔 레이저 레이더의 설계)

  • In this paper, we develop a dual beam automotive laser radar system which improve the defect of conventional unipolar one beam laser scheme. We introduce an SNR improving method using bipolar signal synthesizing scheme from two unipolar signals at the receiving unit via differential structure by allocating bipolar m-sequence into the two laser wavelengths, which have similar property like 2-D OOC, and investigate its performance. Simulation results show that the proposed dual beam scheme can have 3dB SNR improvement as compared with conventional unipolar signaling laser radar system. Also, we show the simple interference rejection scheme using differential structures. The proposed scheme have a merit to obtain additional 3dB SNR gain applied into the excellent results based on unipolar optical signal studied lately.
