Investigation of carabid beetles as on ecological indicator species for wetland characterization and monitoring was conducted in three types of wetlands such as emergent wetland, forested wetland, and estuary, During the investigation period, twenty-eight species belonging to twenty-two genera and three families(Carabidae, Harpalidae, Brachinidae) were identified. The diversity of carabid beetles at riverine wetland such as Woopo (H'=1.18) and Hwapo-neup (H'=1.08) were higher than in the forested wetland (H'=1.03) and estuarine (H'=0.91). Species compositions in each wetland were significantly different(${\chi}^2=1716.8$, P<0.01). Riverine wetlands differed significantly from the forested wetland. Indicator species for the wetland chose with indicator species analysis were reacted sensitively on the parameter such as soil composition, moisture of soil, and environmental change. Thus, it was consequently suggested that these indicator species may be applied for wetland characterization and monitoring of the wetland ecosystem.
As advanced earthquake analysis/design methods such as the nonlinear static analysis are developed, it is required to estimate precisely the cyclic behavior of reinforced concrete members that is characterized by strength, deformability, and capacity of energy dissipation. However, currently, estimation of energy dissipation depends on empirical equations that are not sufficiently accurate, or experiment and sophisticated numerical analysis which are difficult to use in practice.0 the present study, nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to investigate the behavioral characteristics of flexure-dominant RC members under cyclic load. The effects of axial force, arrangement of reinforcing bars, and reinforcement ratio on the cyclic behavior were studied. Based on the investigation, a simplified method to estimate the capacity of energy dissipation was proposed, and it was verified by the comparison with the finite element analyses and experiments. The proposed method can estimate the energy dissipation of RC members more precisely than currently used empirical equations, and it is easily applicable in practice.
As by-pass dust (BPD) made from cement manufactured process is designated waste, it is required to bury as high cost. The main component of BPD is potassium chloride (KCl), and used for the fertilizer. For using KCl to the fertilizer, the pH value of KCl is required as neutral or weak acid. However, it is not suitable to apply BPD into the fertilizer directly without any other treatment because BPD's pH value is shown 12.0~12.5; a high base. In this study, the carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) was used for removing calcium oxide (CaO) and reducing pH value during manufacturing process of KCl. We fixed inner condition of the carbon test chamber as $25^{\circ}C$-50RH%, and retained 0~7 hours under the 20 vol% of $CO_2$ atmosphere. After experiment, we analyzed the content of CaO and pH value from each samples. The more time exposed to $CO_2$, the content of CaO and pH value are shown. Furthermore, pH value exposed in 6 hours nearly reached 7.
Hemicellulosic hydrolysates contain not only sugars but also several kinds of ethanol fermentation inhibitory substances such as carboxylic acids, furans and phenolic compounds. In this work, emulsion liquid membrane (ELM) was chosen as a separation technology to remove the inhibitors. A basic simulated hemicellulosic hydrolysate was composed of xylose as sugar, dilute sulfuric acid solution as solvent, and acetic acid as carboxylic acid, and furfural as furan derivative or p-hydroxybenzoic acid(HBA) as phenolic compound was added to the hydrolysate when necessary. Acetic acid and HBA as weak acid could be selectively removed from the hydrolysates in all the ELM systems considered here, but furfural as aldehyde was quite hard to remove. Also, when HBA was added to the basic simulated hemicellulosic hydrolysate, both of acetic acid and HBA in the feed phase could be selectively removed up to 99% in an ELM system with tributyl phosphate as extractant.
To study the cultural characteristics and wood rotting ability of the secondary mycellia of Armillaria mellea, it was cultivated on the various media. The optimal mycelial growth condition was 20~27 and pH 5.0~6.5 on PDB. A. mellea grew well on MEA, PDA and GP. Lactose and mannitol as carbon sources and glutamic acid as nitrogen sources were found to be effective as additives. A. mellea employed in this study have the characteristics of white rot types. Pine and oak wood were selected as candidates for sawdust substrate.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the contents of sulfuric acid in Science textbooks and Chemistry II textbooks, and to survey 10 pre-service teachers' perceptions who majored chemistry education related to sulfuric acid. As results, most of the Science textbooks represented that sulfuric acid was divided into two $H^+$ and one $SO_4{^{2-}}$. But this mistake might be corrected because sulfuric acid was divided into one $H^+$and one $HSO_4{^-}$. Most of Chemistry II textbooks represented ionization steps of sulfuric acid, but same mistake was represented in some of Chemistry II textbooks. $HSO_4{^-}$ is a weak acid, but some Chemistry II textbooks represented $HSO_4{^-}$ as a strong acid. As results of the survey related to pre-service teachers' perceptions, some pre-service teachers didn't know the situation of particles in sulfuric acid solution, and they were affected on by the learning of high school classrooms.
Soil-to-plant transfer coefficients of Mn-54, Co-60, Zn-65, and Cs-137 were estimated for the edible parts of the rice, soybean, lettuce, carrot, and squash grown in different soils by radiotracer uptake experiments using pot cultures. The transfer coefficients of radionuclides were in the order of Zn-65 > Mn-54 > Cs-137 > Co-60 in most of the cases studied. The coefficients for soybean were roughly an order of magnitude higher than those for rice. Among vegetables, lettuce mostly showed the highest value and squash, the lowest. In the strongly acidic soils, transfer coefficients were much higher than in the moderately acidic soils. From the data obtained. crop-specific transfer coefficients of the four nuclides were proposed for the use in Korean food-chain radiation dose assessment.

Shipbuilder checks the status of main engine and propeller operation before sea trial. Generally these tests are carried out at a quay during fitting out of the ship. For these tests the operator has to estimate the maximum RPM with permissible torque and thrust to ensure the safety of the mooring line and ship. In this paper, the propeller characteristics according to the draft variation for a moored ship is inveatigated. From these tests, it is shown that shaft submergence is a dominant parameter in the propeller performance at shallow shaft submergence and that the propeller performance is dependent upon the propeller RPM when the shaft submergence is kept unchanged. In this study, a simple formula of the required thrust for a given propeller shaft submergence and propeller RPM is derived. 1be propeller thrust, which is calculated by another formula in case of dtep draft, is compared with results of bollard pull test for FPSO.

This study was carried out to obtain the basic information for effective conservation and cultivation of Atractylodes japonica Koidz. The soil texture was sandy loam with low pH and high organic matter content compared to general cultivative land. Aerial part growth such as plant height, number of leaf, leaf length and leaf width was the highest in Tongyong indigenous species, but fresh rhizome weight was the highest in Pyongchang. Frequency of light penetration rate was high at $60{\sim}80%$ of full sun-light, but growth was better in high light penetration rate. The correlation between growth characteristics and habitat environment were investigated in 59 districts. Correation among growth characteristics in habitat, fresh rhizome weight was significant with plant height, number of leaf and stem diameter.
Results of seventy-seven specimens tested by this study and previous research were collected and evaluated to propose the flexural strength and shear strength for flexural members with steel fiber concrete. For strength evaluation, structural parameters such as compressive strength, steel fiber content, tensile reinforcement ratio, and shear span to effective depth ratio are involved. The proposed equations for flexural and shear strength are regarded to give a good prediction for the strength of steel fiber reinforced composite and/or RC beams to compare with equations by previous researchers. Especially, the proposed shear strength equation in this study shows the lowest the mean value, the coefficient of variation and the error ratio among predictions by several equations. Therefore, equations for shear strength and flexure strength, which are proposed in this study are to be useful measure to predict the actual behavior and failure mode of steel fiber reinforced composite beams.
