  • An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effect of film cooling in a liquid rocket engine using Hydrogen peroxide/Kerosene as propellants. The heat fluxes were calculated by the measured wall temperatures on the axial direction of thrust chamber for mass flow rate of coolant and different type of film cooling rings. The flow rate of coolant was 0~20 percent of the total propellant.

  • In this paper, stabilizer which maintains the mixture ratio of gas generator of LRE has been introduced. Design criterion for the ideal performance of stabilizer was derived. Significant parameters on the performance of stabilizer were identified through mathematical model and gas generator system analysis. Also, simulation and test results of the gas generator system showed fair agreement, thus proving the validity of the mathematical model of the stabilizer.

  • Using liquefied natural gas as a fuel, water, natural gas and liquefied natural gas-cooled firing tests were conducted. With the viewpoint of characteristic velocity, and specific impulse, the effect of OF mixture ratio and fuel inlet temperature into a combustion chamber were analyzed. OF mixture ratio and fuel inlet temperature into a combustion chamber have great influence on the performance. Characteristic velocity and theoretical specific impulse attain the maximum value at 0.72~0.75 and 0.75 of OF mixture ratio, respectively. Engine performance has a tendency to increase, proportional to fuel inlet temperature into a combustion chamber affected by the regenerative cooling.

  • Upper stage of the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-II(KSLV-II) uses a 7-tons class liquid rocket engine and is an open gas generator cycle with a turbopump supply method that uses kerosene/liquid oxygen as the propellant combination. This study first provided a brief overview of the design and development process of the upper stage engine. In addition, it introduced the solutions and results applied to some of the problems that occurred during the development process of the upper stage engine.

  • The basic design of liquid rocket engine combustion chamber for a large space launch vehicle was described. It has vacuum thrust of 74.8 ton, vacuum specific impulse of 306.9 sec, chamber pressure of 60 bar, mass flow rate of 243.6 kg/s and combustion characteristic velocity of 1730 m/sec. The details of combustion performance and geometrical parameter were also given. The 75 ton combustion chamber consists of the combustor head with injector and the chamber/nozzle with regenerative cooling channels.

  • This paper describes the current development status of the major subsystems, turbopump and gas generator, for a turbopump-fed liquid oxygen-kerosene rocket engine system. As a secondary stage of the liquid rocket engine development test, turbopump-gas generator powerpack tests are planned. The schematics of the test hardware and the test facility for the TP+GG coupled test are presented. The results of a preliminary analysis for operating regimes of the TP+GG coupled test are also presented.

  • General characteristics of hydrogen and the ratio change of the two forms of hydrogen(ortho-hydrogen and para-hydrogen) as a function of the temperature were introduced. The unique characteristics of hydrogen, such as a wide range of flammability limits, low minimum ignition energy, low maximum inverse temperature, and hydrogen embrittlement were introduced. The process of producing the liquid hydrogen using pre-cooling and expansion engine and ortho-para conversion using the catalyst were introduced. Finally, the characteristics and the considerations as a propellant for liquid rocket were reviewed.

  • The method of decreasing the ecological risk for the LRE(Liquid Rocket Engine) test is developed, working on the cryogenic oxidizer and the high-boiling fuel(Kerosene). This Method is based on the study that contains a technical solution method and an accident occurrence range for decreasing of accident probability and damage. This paper contains schematic on the all risk circumstance bring to accident, block-diagram for an accident growth process in case of the propellant leakage, technical solution method and risk reduction evaluation method. It will be used to alternative method for the risk reduction of complex technical systems.

  • The colse type of engine system, in which the combustion gas after the gas-turbine with high temperature is supplied to the combustion chamber, was selected to increase the energy characteristics in making the rocket engine scheme which makes 1700kN thrust. The nozzle was designed with consideration of film cooling, nozzle efficiency, and the real state of cobmustion gas during the expansion in nozzle. The change of gas state and the composition of the gas through the nozzle was studied by the graphic, too.

  • The paper presents the results of the experimental study about flow discharge characteristics of double swirl coaxial injectors for a liquid rocket engine. Flow discharge characteristics of injectors become one of critical design issues for LRE combustion devices. Tap water and liquid oxygen/kerosene were used for ambient and hot firing tests, respectively. A combustion discharge coefficient varies depending on a mixture ratio and a recess ratio, and magnitudes of the variations are different with respect to injector shapes and operating conditions. The variation of a combustion discharge coefficient with a LOx injector is considered to result from flame structure changes due to physical property changes.
