  • Slag mass deposition was required to predict accurate performance of kick motor (KM) system. Slag mass accumulation was analyzed through the aluminum oxide particle paths to predict slag mass deposition. Numerical analysis to solve both flow field and droplet accumulation was performed with Fluent 6.3 program. The effects for the acceleration and diameters of the aluminum oxide particles was analyzed, finally total slag mass accumulation was acquired. It confirmed that the slag mass deposition was agreed well with previously slag mass prediction based on KM ground test.

  • Slag mass deposition was required to predict performance accurately of KSLV-I kick motor(KM) system. The validation of the numerical analysis was performed with mass flow rate measured at 4th ground test of the KM. The study described here included internal flow field of KM at various time steps during burning. Slag mass accumulation was computed through the aluminum oxide particle paths to deviate from the gas flow streamlines in flight. These numerical analysis was performed with Fluent 6.3 program The effects for the acceleration, origins and diameters of the aluminum oxide particles was analyzed, finally the total slag mass accumulation was acquired. We confirmed that the slag mass deposition was agreement well with predicted slag mass based on kick motor the grounded test.

  • Uniform metal-droplet deposition using laser is analyzed. Using the variation principle and modeling the semi-solid phase as a non-Netwonian slurry, this model can greatly save the computational expenses that conventional numerical procedures have suffered from. The simulation results revealed that the developed model could reasonably describe the collision behavior of molten metal with solid surface. Simulations were made with variation of the falling distance and time.

  • The temperature distribution of the deposited droplet was predicted by using the finite element analysis and it was assumed that the droplet was axisymmetrical model. The analysis of residual stress was performed with the temperature data, which is obtained from the result. Axisymmetric droplet is deposited three times to consider the actual phenomenon of droplet deposition. The analysis of the temperature distribution is respectively performed whenever the axisymmetric droplet is laminated and the residual stresses of the laminated axisymmetric droplet are calculated with the value of the temperature distribution.

  • 3D printing technology, which creates a physical object by various material deposition, has been widely used in recent years in the manufacturing field because of its advantages. Among the various printing technologies, droplet-based 3D printing technology (e.g., Polyjet®) enables a high-resolution printing using photocurable materials such as hydrogels. Depending on the degree of light exposure, ejected photocurable droplets may have different properties (e.g., viscosity) until they collide with the substrate and it leads to the different spreading behaviors of the droplets (i.e., impact, spreading, and recoiling) during deposition on the substrate. In this study, experimental observation and analysis of the changes in hydrogel droplet viscosity and spreading behavior according to the light exposure were carried out based on high-speed image processing.

  • A numerical method is presented to predict and analyze the shape of a growing billet produced from the "spray forming process" which is a fairly new near-net shape manufacturing process. It is important to understand the mechanism of billet growing because one can obtain a billet with the desired final shape without secondary operations by accurate control of the billet shape, and it can also serve as a base for heat transfer and deformation analysis. The shape of a growing billet is determined by the flow rate of the alloy melt, the mode of nozzle scanning which is due to cam profile, the initial positio of the spray nozzle, scanning angle, and the withdrawal speed of the substrate. In the present study, a theoretical model is first established to predict the shape of the billet and next the effects of the most dominent processing conditions, such as withdrawal speed of the substrate and the cam profile, on the shape of the growing billet are studied. Process conditions are obtained to produce a billet with uniform diameter and flat top surface, and an ASP30 high speed steel billet is manufactured using the same process conditions established from the simulation.imulation.
