This research is to evaluate the fire extinguishing performance of Compressed Air Foam System and this test was conducted using Foam Head System. Compressed Air Foam System adopt the methods of causing the foam by mixing compressed air in foam-aqueous solution, In Overseas, CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) is generally used because long distance discharge is possible and the water damage can be minimized by reducing the water usage. In this study, Comparative analysis on fire extinguishing effect is done through test to compare the performance between Foam System applied existing air mixture method and Compressed Air Foam System applied AFFF 3 %, foam-extinguishing-agent based on UL162 standard. In Compressed Air Foam System, the volume proportion of air mixture to foam-aqueous solution is 1 to 1 and discharging flow rate is 140 L/min, 160 L/min, 180 L/min, 200 L/min each. As a result of the test, in terms of fire extinguishing performance, fire suppression time for Compressed Air Foam Systems is shorter than for General Air Mixture System in all flow conditions.

Since the Daegu subway fire accident, people's perception of safety has increased, and all materials inside the train have been changed to incombustible materials. However, there is still a lack of development of fire extinguishing systems. Train components are mostly made of steel plates, and therefore it is very difficult to extinguish the train fire by using general fire extinguishing equipment. In this regard, this paper investigated rapid and easy methods of extinguishing the train fire by using compressed air foam systems through full-scale fire tests. To extinguish the fire of train at rescue station, window breakers were used to quickly destroy the train windows, and the compressed air foam system was inserted inside the train. As a result, the train windows were destroyed in 5 seconds, and the 11.88-MW fire was put out in 30 seconds by the compressed air foam discharged from the compressed air foam system inserted inside the train. For the future work, there is a need for further experimental studies to prevent the spread of fire and protect tunnel structures with the use of compressed air foam systems.
Strength and compressibility characteristics of Light-Weighted Foam Soil (LWFS) are experimentally investigated in the paper. LWFS is composed of the dredged soils, cement and air foam to reduce unit-weight and to increase compressive strength. For these purposes, both unconfined compression tests and triaxial compression tests are carried out fer artficially prepared specimens of LWFS with various initial water contents, cement contents, mixing ratio of silty dredged soils and different confining stresses. The experimental results of LWFS indicate that the stress-strain relationship and the compressive strength are strongly influenced by cement contents rather than intial water contents of the edged soils. In this paper, the normalizing scheme considering the ratio of initial water contents, cement contents, and air foam contents has been proposed to evaluate the relationship between compressive strength of LWFS and a normalized factor.
The mechanical characteristics of Light-Weighted Foam Soil(LWFS) are investigated in this research. LWFS is composed of the dredged soil from offshore, cement and foam to reduce the unit-weight and increase compressive strength. For this purpose, the unconfined compression tests and triaxial compression tests are carried out on the prepared specimens of LWFS with various conditions such as initial water contents, cement contents, curing conditions and confining stresses. The test results of LWFS indicated that the stress-strain relationship and the compressive strength are strongly influenced by the cement contents rather than the intial water contents of the dredged soils. On the other hand, the stress-strain relationship from triaxial compression test has shown strain-softening behavior regardless of curing conditions. The stress-strain behavior for the various confining stress exhibited remarkable change at the boundary where the confining stress approached to the unconfined compression strength of LWFS. In order to obtain the ground improvement of the compressive strength above 200kPa, the required LWFS mixing ratio is found to be 100%~160% of the initial water contents of dredged soil and 6.6% of cement contents.

In this study, applicability of compressed air form (CAF) fire water was verified in a bid to use the undersea effluent as fire water. Foam collector was fabricated in accordance with KS B ISO 7203-1 (Specification for low expansion foam concentrates for top application to water-immiscible liquids) and the test was conducted using fresh water as fire water for 19 times and using seawater as fire water 15 times that totaled 34 times. Foam reduction time was 237.73 seconds on average with fresh water and 215.60 seconds with seawater, which proved the applicability of CAF fire water using seawater. Besides, window breaker was fabricated to directly extinguish the fire in train and a full-scale fire test was conducted three times. At the final 3rd test, window glass was broken in 2 seconds to make the hole for fire extinguishing and suppressed the fire in 3 seconds using CAF fire extinguisher.
With the increase in the application of CLSM using coal ash, we performed a basic research on CLSM material, laying focus on the correlation between compressive strength and unit weight of lightweight foamed CLSM. The unconfined compression strength is a criterion for the judgment of the possibility of re-excavation and an important factor determining the economy, efficiency, and excavation character. However, to know the quantitative compression strength value takes a certain amount of time, because the applicability of unconfined compression strength of CLSM is judged by the standard of 28days. Therefore, in this study the relation between compressive strength and unit weight (foam slurry unit weight, apparent unit weight) is analyzed focusing on lightweight foamed CLSM. We also suggested a formula which can easily predict the 28-day compressive strength only using unit weight value without the need to cure the slurry for 28 days.
Lightweight Foamed Soil (LWFS) could be the substitute of normal soils used in backfill to earth structures and embankment materials far soft ground improvement in port and harbor project because of its effectiveness in settlement reduction and earth pressure decrease due to its lightness. A series of triaxial and unconfined compression tests were performed to investigate behaviors of LWFS composed of dredged soils, cement and air foam, and cured at underwater conditions. The density of LWFS will increase if LWFS is cured at underwater conditions because high water pressure makes air foam disappear or demolish during the curing compared with LWFS cured at normal air conditions. This paper is to find the mechanical behaviors of LWFS cured at seawater depth of 5.0 m and 10.0 m, respectively, which simulates underwater curing conditions by underwater pressure simulator chamber developed during this study. In addition, new normalized factor formula, which takes account of mixing design conditions determining compressive strength of LWFS, was proposed to consider mixing design factor fur LWFS.
In this research, laboratory tests were carried out to investigate the engineering properties of Light-Weight Air Foamed Soil (LWAS) based on silty clays with the animal foaming agent and cement. LWAS has been used as an embankment material over soft ground for road and side extension of the existing road. In field, unit weight and flow value is measured right after producing in mixing plant in order to control the quality of LWAS, and laboratory tests are carried out to confirm the quality through compressive strength of LWAS as well. In this research, direct estimation of the specification requirement of strength using flow values in field is the main purpose of the study together with other characteristics. From the test results, it can be seen that flow values increase with the initial water content and unit weight increases with the depth due to material segregation. Compared to the upper specimen, lower end of 60 cm specimen shows about 2 times higher compressive strength. Relationship between flow values and normalized factor presented by Yoon & Kim (2004) was presented. With that relationship, compressive strength can be predicted from flow values in field. From the relationship, the normalized factor was calculated. Thereafter calculated compressive strengths according to the flow values were compared to measured strengths in the laboratory. The higher the initial water content of the dredged soil has, the better relationship between predicted and measured shows. Therefore it is necessary to predict the compressive strength in advance through the relationship between the flow value and the normalized factor to reflect it in the design stage.
A series of unconfined compression tests were carried out firstly to investigate mechanical behaviors of Lightweight Foamed Soil (LWFS) which is composed of dredged soils, cement and air foam. And secondly, to compare the difference of mechanical characteristic of LWFS with previous research conclusions (Yoon & Kim,2004) by using different dredged soils sampled at Joong-Ma in Gwangyang harbor area. Based on numberous laboratory experiments, it was found that deformation coefficient $(E_{50})$ of LWFS increases with increasing cement contents but decreases with increasing initial water contents of dredged soils. Appropriate regression formula (normalizing factor scheme) which considers relationship between LWFS composing elements, initial water contents of dredged soils, cement, air foam, and uniaxial compression strength or LWFS is proposed for practical applications. Finally, it was clear that, to apply LWFS method to practical projects, certain laboratory test would be necessary to take considerations of soil locality because mechanical charac-teristics of LWFS were surely dependent upon their sampled locations and properties.

Recently, a mega project such as Korea-China or Korea-Japan undersea tunnel project has been emerged for detail discussion and the interest in undersea tunnel is on the rise. More severe damage by train fire is expected in undersea tunnel comparing to ground tunnel and thus the study on more efficient fire extinguishing system, besides existing disaster prevention design is underway. To that end, a full-scale fire tests using CAF fire extinguishing system which has been developed by modifying traditional foam fire extinguishing system for fire suppression at rescue station in timely manner were conducted over 7 times. The test was conducted after setting the rescue station in virtual tunnel with a car of KTX. As a result of using compressed air foam directly to the fire source, 30 liter of Heptane combustibles was extinguished within 1 minutes. Applicability of compressed air foam to train fire at rescue station in undersea tunnel was has been proven and further study is considered required while changing the nozzle angle and location so as to achieve quick and easy extinguishing goal, making use of the advantage of CAF, as well as to reduce the fire water and chemicals required.
