  • In this study, dynamic centrifuge tests in dry sand were conducted in order to evaluate the effect of pile installation on the dynamic p-y curve. According to the result of the pile installation effect on the dynamic p-y backbone curves, the subgrade resistance of a jacked pile in 40 g was found to be greater than that of a jacked pile in 1 g and a preinstalled pile in 1 g. It was also found that differences of the subgrade resistance decrease with the depth of the pile. Applicability of dynamic p-y backbone curve for the bored pile proposed by preceded researcher was evaluated by comparing with the result of centrifuge tests. In addition, dynamic p-y backbone curve for jacking/driven pile was developed by modifying that for the bored pile.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to evaluate the material properties of high-yield strength materials exceeding 10GPa from spherical indentation. Using a regression equation considering four indentation variables, we map the load displacement relation into a stress-strain relation. To calculate the properties of high-strength materials, we then write a program that produces material properties using the loading / unloading data from the indentation test. The errors in material properties computed by the program are within 0.3, 0.8, and 6.4 for the elastic modulus, yield strength, and hardening coefficient, respectively.

  • Lightweight parts with very uniform precision are manufactured by an indent method and the press technique has been improved. Upon assembly with an indent method, a deformation force due to the compressive force occurs between the pin and hole and the contact surface is affected by damage. Therefore, a 3 dimensional model was made using the CATIA program and the damage on the surface contacted with indent was estimated through the ANSYS program in this study. In the analysis result, the maximum load applied at the PCB plate was 21.3 N when the pin goes through the PCB plate. When PCB plate came out of the pin, the maximum load was 19.24 N. As the structural analysis result, the maximum equivalent stress of Pin 1 was 192.96MPa because the maximum stress occurs at Pin 1 among all parts of this study model. By examining the damage property of the contacted indent and applying this study result to the design of real indentation, the damage can be prevented and the durability can be estimated.

  • This study evaluates the magnitudes and distributions of contact tangential forces with the swaging depth of punch acting at the contact surfaces between a rotor core slot and a Cu bar during a sequential rotor core swaging process. The effects of the core slot shape on the magnitudes and distributions of the total contact forces were investigated to improve the productivity of the rotor core swaging process. Parametric elastic-plastic numerical analyses were performed using simplified two-dimensional cyclic symmetric plane strain models to evaluate the contact force distributions at the contact surfaces. The numerical analysis results show that the total contact tangential forces increased by about 55% with the adjacent Cu bar swaging process. The length of the core slot is a dominant factor in the core slot design as result of the increased total contact tangential forces during the swaging process of the rotor core.

  • The pressure penetrating steel pipe pile method which can be constructed in a narrow space using the hydraulic jack is used on the foundation reinforcement, extension of the structure and basement, restoration of the differential settlement etc.. This method is possible to construct in narrow areas and low story height, the non-noise and non-vibration works, and it is possible for the construction site to be clean without slime. And it is possible to confirm the bearing capacity of pile due to penetrating the pile with the compression load of hydraulic jack. In this study, the static load test with the load-transfer test was carried out to investigate the bearing behavior characteristics of the pressure penetrating steel pipe pile. Four series of static load test were executed to investigate the variation of bearing behavior of the pressure penetrating steel pipe pile. As a result of these tests, the allowable load of the pressure penetrating steel pipe was evaluated more than 637 kN, and the shaft resistance corresponding to 81~86% of each applied load was mobilized with only a small portion of the base resistance acting. And it was also evaluated that the unit skin friction was mobilized to maximum value after two months.

  • This paper discusses the methods of estimating the punch penetration indices and data analysis punch penetration test to estimate the TBM normal force and penetration rate. In punch penetration test is known as a useful test to estimate penetration rates and normal force of TBMs directly with several slope indices indicated drill-ability and brittleness of rocks. However, the standard methods and indices for punch penetration test are not suggested yet. The main purpose of punch penetration test which is prediction of normal force of TBM disc cutter when cutters excavate rock mass. In this study, the punch penetration tests were performed for 6 representative Korean rock types and variety length and diameter of rock core specimens. Among slope indices were obtained from punch penetration test, PLI and MLI which is suggested in this study show high correlation with cutter force measured by full-scale cutting test. The results show that the predicted normal force of a single disc cutter and the experimental error was 10%. Based on these results, it is concluded that punch penetration test is reliable laboratory test for estimating thrust and penetration rates of TBM.

  • In this study, to prevent possible collapse caused by hydraulic or mechanical instability, liquid nitrogen injection method is developed and implemented at the tip of drilling auger of steel pipe propulsion tunneling. In this study, 1/5-scale model auger and sand chamber were manufactured. The prototype diameter of steel pile (or casing) is assumed about 1,000 mm. For the frictional sandy soils and plastic weathered soils, liquid nitrogen injection methods were tested varying water contents of the soils. For the induced hydraulic instability, the ground near the drilling auger was frozen within approximately 5 minutes preventing mechanical collapse and water infiltration. Securing stability of steel pile propulsion tunneling using liquid nitrogen was much more effective for which the water content of the soil somewhat exceeds the optimum water content.

  • In this study, we evaluated the heat release performance of two extruded-type and two swaged-type heat sinks used in an inverter for solar power generation. The number of fins and heat transfer areas of the two swaged-type heat sinks, namely S-62 and S-98, are 62 and 98 and $2.8m^2$ and $5.3m^2$, respectively. Those for the two extruded-type heat sinks, namely, E-38 and E-47, are 38 and 47 and $1.8m^2$ and $1.9m^2$, respectively. The heat release fractions of S-62 and S-98 were measured as 82.7 % and 86.3 %, respectively. Those of E-38 and E47 were measured to be 79.6 % and 81.6 %, respectively. In this experiment, despite the mass flow rates of air entering the heat sinks being almost the same, the heat release fractions increased with heat transfer area. Furthermore, despite S-62's heat transfer area being 47.4 % higher than that of E-47, its heat release fraction was higher by only 1.3 %. We believe that this indicates the better heat transfer property of the extruded-type heat sink. S-98's heat release is only 4.4 % higher than that of S-62, but its heat transfer area is 89.3 % higher; this suggests that its heat transfer area need to be optimized.
