  • The pressure distributions on a semi-span wing 1/12 scale mode and sic component aerodynamic forces and moments on a complete 1/16 scale advanced trainer model were measured. To reduce wing-tip vortex strength, 3 wing-tip jet slot shaped(forward $35{^{\circ}C}$ direction, straigt direction, backward $35{^{\circ}C}$ direction) and 3 blowing coefficents (0.004, 0.009, 0.017) were considered. From experiment results, the case of straight direction and blowing coefficent of 0.017 was the best effective in the reduction of drag and in increase of lift-drag ratio and A rate of drag decrease and a rate of lift-drag ratio increase were of most effective on angle of attack 8 degree.

  • Wave drag reduction due to the repetitive laser induced energy deposition over a flat-nosed cylinder is experimentally conducted in this study. Irradiated laser pulses are focused by a convex lens installed in side of the in-draft wind tunnel of Mach 1.94. The maximum frequency of the energy deposition is limited up to 80. Time-averaged drag force is measured using a low friction piston which was backed by a load cell in a cavity as a controlled pressure. Stagnation pressure history, which is measured at the nose of the model, is synchronized with corresponding sequential schlieren images. With cylinder model, amount of drag reduction is linearly increased with input laser power. The power gain only depends upon the pulse energy. A drag reduction about 21% which corresponds to power gain of energy deposition of approximately 10 was obtained.

  • The drag reduction effect of a freely-rotatable splitter plate was experimentally investigated in the 2-D wake behind a circular cylinder. By arranging the splitter plate to be aparted with a certain gap from the cylinder, the splitter plate was able to be aligned itself automatically to the flow direction in the tested range of 6.2$\times$$10^3$$\times$$10^4$. As a result, it was proven that the self-adjustable splitter plate always reduced effectively the drag imposed on the body against any arbitrary flow directions. In a specific range of Reynolds numbers, the drag reduction effect was dependent not only on the length of the splitter plate but also on the gap distance between the plate and the trailing edge of the body. For a splitter plate with a specific length, there existed a unique optimum range of gap distance to obtain successfully the drag reduction effect, however, the optimum range of gap distance was dependent on Reynolds number.

  • The characteristic analysis and fundamental test of a plasma generator is performed for drag reduction of a high speed vehicle. In high pressures, thermal plasmas is suitable for generating plasmas. The appropriate plasma torch is selected and used to generate thermal plasmas. The plasma torch, which can emit high-speed and high-pressure plasma jet, is suitable for generating plasma counterflow jet. In this study, the fundamental test and analysis for the plasma torch is summarized. Results show that supplying gas pressures and electrode gap of plasma torch are considered as critical parameters for generating plasma jets.

  • The analysis of performance and internal flow according to various numerical models for interior ballistics has been conducted. The initial flow has been mainly affected by the drag model of propellants and their drag degradation reduces oscillations of differential pressure between the breech and the shot base. Models of Nusselt number haven't influenced the major performance of interior ballistics. The negative differential pressure isn't generated in the case without the heat transfer of propellants.

  • The analysis of the performance and the internal flow according to various numerical models used for the interior ballistics has been conducted. The internal flow has been mainly affected by the drag model. As results, oscillations of the pressure differences between the breech and the shot base has been reduced with a deceased drag of the propellant. The major performance of the interior ballistics has no relation to the models using Nusselt number for heat transfer coefficient. The negative pressure difference without the heat transfer of the propellant has not been shown.

  • This paper describes the aerodynamic interference characteristics between the ing and the engines in a commercial airplane which is realized by reverse engineering based on the photo measurement. Steady three-dimensional compressible inviscid Euler equation is solved in the unstructured grid system under the cruise condition. The lift and drag forces in the wing with engines increase by 1.49% and 3.9%, respectively compared with the wing without engines.

  • This paper presents the experimental results of aerodynamic drags of model cars. The effects of cooling air on total drag were introduced by using momentum theorem. Vehicle-liked Ahmed body and 1/5 model car were used to evaluate the increments of drags due to the internal flow. The results were compared with momentum theorem and other's experiments and showed good agreements. In the case of Ahmed body, drags were increased by 22% due to the internal flow and decreased linealy by reducing internal air flow rates and inlet areas. The experiments on 1/5 model car with ill-defined air flow passage showed 10% increment of drag. The results of present study showed that cooling drag could be predicted by momentum theorem within small errors.

  • For study on the unsteady wall interference effect, flows around a circular cylinder in closed test-section wind tunnels have been numerically investigated by solving compressible Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical scheme is based on a node-based finite-volume method with the Roe's flux-difference splitting and an implicit time-integration method coupled with dual time-step sub-iteration. The computed results showed that the unsteady pressure gradient over the cylinder is enhanced by the wall interference, and as a result the fluctuations of lift and drag are augmented. The drag is further increased because of the lower base pressure. The vortex shedding frequency is also increased by the wall interference. The pressure on the test section wall shows the harmonics having the shedding frequency contained in the wall effect.

  • Design program was developed to determine the external shape of the supersonic axisymmetric inlet by combining conical flow solver and approximation technique of conical shock with gradient-based optimization algorithm. Inlet designs were carried out under various operation conditions through optimization with respectively two object functions which consist of pressure recovery and cowl drag and with constraints about shock position, cowl shape, and minimum throat area. New object function consisting of pressure recovery and drag of the external cowl was proposed and the optimized shapes from new object function were compared to the ones from the old object function which maximize only the pressure recovery. Through computations of inviscid and turbulent flow, was tested performance of the design program and performance estimated in design program agreed well with computation results for inlets designed under various flight conditions.
