This study numerically simulates brake squeal and validates it experimentally by using a lab-scaled brake dynamometer. The system frequencies of the disc brake are traced with respect to the brake pressure by using a modal test and FEM. Then, the squeal frequencies measured from the brake dynamometer are found to correspond to the brake system mode with the dominant displacement of the caliper and pad. Furthermore, a complex eigenvalue analysis conducted using the finite element model confirms that the caliper mode generating the rotational displacement of the pad becomes unstable owing to the negative friction-velocity slope.
This paper proposes an elasto-plastic finite difference method which is useful for the stability evaluation of concrete lining installed in a deep circular tunnel. Mohr-Coulomb criterion is assumed for the condition of yielding in both the rock mass and concrete lining. In order to take into account the installation delay of lining after the excavation, the outer boundary pressure acting on the lining was calculated with the consideration of the convergence occurred before the lining installation. The distributions of stress and displacement in the rock mass and lining were calculated based on the method proposed Lee & Pietruszczak (2008). The applicability of the proposed method was demonstrated by conducting the elasto-plastic analysis of concrete lining supporting an imaginary compressed air storage tunnel. The analysis result revealed that the exact determination of the boundary pressures acting on the concrete lining is of importance in the stability analysis of concrete lining.
Recoil system for 40mm automatic gun is a device developed to absorb the shock of explosion. It is impossible to conduct pinpoint strike due to recoil if very high explosive shock, which is generated when an automatic gun fires shells, can't be absorbed. This study covers development and verification of analysis model for recoil system by utilizing a multi-domain software. The research process is as in the following. First, an analysis model is developed to verify damping characteristics through understanding of design intention. Second, environment which is identical to a field test is set up on analysis tool after putting explosive force that is measured through the test into the analysis model. Finally, the analysis model for recoil system using the multi-domain software is verified if it has effectiveness with a comparison between internal pressure of the recoil system along with displacement of gun barrel and the field test result.

Gas springs of the television is to control the piston speed when operating under along stroke(200~300 mm, television elevation)is possible. User by this principle is capable of elevation adjustment. First carried out a flow analysis of the piston. A piston speed adjustment technique for precise pipe type cross-section was examined. The piston structure for flow rate control and elevation action is proposed. This study is the development of a gas spring of more than 50 inch television with a large television stand. Hollow piston rod for optimal control(the outer diameter 19.9 mm, the inner diameter 13.9 mm) was injected into the nitrogen gas(0.3 mm/s) in. As a result, the flow rate the pressure drop of the piston rod as the increase was increased without any change of the external force. As a result, control of the displacement via the gas spring is possible.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the usefulness of small punch(SP) test using miniaturized specimens as a method for fracture strength evaluation of CANDU pressure tube embrittled by hydrogen. According to the test results, the fracture strength evaluation as a function of hydrogen concentration at $-196^{\circ}C$ was much better than that at room temperature, as the difference of SP fracture energy(Esp) with hydrogen concentration was more significant at $-196^{\circ}C$ than at room temperature for the hydrogen concentration up to 300ppm-H. It was also observed that the peak of average AE energy, the cumulative average AE energy and the cumulative average AE energy per equivalent fracture, strain increased with the increase of hydrogen concentration. From the results of load-displacement behaviors, Esp behaviors, macro- and micro-SEM fractographs and AE test it has been concluded that the SP test method using miniaturized specimen($10mm{\times}10mm{\times}0.5mm$) will be a useful test method to evaluate the fracture strength for CANDU pressure tube embrittled by hydrogen.

In this paper, the performance analysis and the experiment of the brake system using the small piezoelectric-hydraulic pump were performed. Initially, the 3-D modeling of the brake load components was performed for the construction of the brake system. Subsequently, modeling using the commercial program AMESim was performed. A floating caliper model was used as a load for modeling the brake system. Through the AMESim simulation, load pressure, check valve displacement and flow rate under no load state were calculated, and performance analysis and changes in dynamic characteristics were confirmed by adding brake load. A jig for use in fixing the brake load during performance test was manufactured. The flow rate was assessed under no load condition and load pressure formation experiments were performed and compared with simulation results. Experimental results revealed the maximum load pressure as about 73bar at 130Hz and the maximum flow rate as about 203cc/min at 145Hz, which satisfied the requirement of small- and medium-sized UAV braking system. In addition, simulation results revealed that the load pressure and discharge flow rate were within 6% and 5%, respectively. Apparently, the modeling is expected to be effective for brake performance analysis.

In this study, we have proposed a simple cardiorespiratory monitoring method based on displacements of human body which occurs due to periodic heartbeat and breathing. The proposed system consists of an aircushion, pressure sensing hardware and heartbeat and respiration signals extraction algorithm. The aircushion was used for unconstrained measurement of the respiration and heartbeats without a sensor attached on the subject's skin surface. The displacements of subject sitting on the aircushion cause small pressure variations. These variations are amplified and filtered with the pressure sensing hardware. Finally, heart rate and respiration rate are extracted by signal processing algorithm based on frequency domain filter. To evaluate the performance, extracted respiration and heart rate from proposed system were compared with conventional methods. The average sensitivity of respiration and heart rate are 98.67% and 99.24%, respectively. These results show the proposed method has advantages of installing and processing simplicity so as to be used easily in unconstrained respiration and heart rate monitoring in daily life.

The high pressure pump of a diesel injection system compresses the fuel supplied at low pressure into high pressure fuel and maintains the fuel of the common rail at the required pressure level according to the engine operating conditions. The high pressure pump is required to operate normally in order to compress the fuel to a high pressure of 2000 bar during the entire lifetime of the vehicle. Consequently, a suitable design technique, material durability and high precision machining are required. In this study, the high pressure pump simulation model of a 1-plunger radial piston pump is modelled by using the AMESim code. The main simulation parameters are the displacement, flow rate and pressure characteristics of the inlet and outlet valves, cam torque characteristics, and operating characteristics of the fuel metering valve and overflow valve. In addition, the operating characteristics of the pump are simulated according to the parameter changes of the hole diameter and the spring initial force of the inlet valve. The simulation results show that the operation of the developed pump model is logically valid. This paper also proposes a simulation model that can be used for current pump design changes and new pump designs.

In this paper, the fluid-structure interaction of large floating structures has been rigorously analyzed and the shear effect on the structural deformation has been investigated in oblique waves. A constant panel method(CPM) based on the Green function method is implemented for computing the hydrodynamic pressure, while a finite element method(FEM) is applied for the structural response based on the Mindlin plate theory with including shear deformation. In order to validate the method, we compared numerical results with experimental ones of Mega Float carried out by Yago & Endo in head waves. General behavior shows good agreement but the local displacement at the ends is slightly different. The numerical results show that the radiation pressure due to the fluid-structure interaction is locally larger than that of wave excitation and mooring devices greatly reduce the response. It is observed that the shear effects among the total deformation constitutes about 4% in the case of Mega Float in oblique waves.
The volume control method which utilize a pressure node added into a finite shell element can overcome the drawbacks of conventional load control method and displacement control method. In this study, an improved volume control method is introduced for effective analysis of path-dependent behaviors of RC columns subjected to lateral cyclic loading or reversed cyclic loading along with compressive loading. RC shell structures and RC hollow columns are analyzed by discretizing the structures with layered shell elements and by applying in-plane two dimensional constitutive equations for concrete layers and reinforcement layers of the shell elements. The so-called path dependent volume control method as a finite element analysis technique is verified by comparing analysis results with other data including experimental results. The validity and applicability of the modeling technique is also confirmed by the comparison.
