Discrepancies Between Public Perceptions and Epidemiological Facts Regarding Cancer Survival Rate in Korea : An Online Survey (암 생존율에 대한 한국 대중의 인식과 역학적 사실 사이에서 발생하는 불일치 : 온라인 설문을 중심으로)

  • This study aims at investigating which factors affect the public perceptions of the survival rate of cancer. To this end, this study compares the public perception for 5-year survival rates of five major cancer(stomach, colorectal, liver, breast, uterine cervix) and actual epidemiological fact thereof. Data was collected from 19th to 24th April 2016 through online cross-sectional survey on 354 people. Frequency analysis was conducted to understand the characteristics of the subjects, histograms were presented for the comparison with the epidemiological fact, and multiple regression analysis was conducted. The subjects tended to aware the survival rates of stomach cancer, colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and uterine cervix cancer as lower than they epidemiologically represented. Finally, the factors that substantially affect the perception of 5-year survival rates were revealed as the experience of diagnosed as cancer, the age, and whether the subject regularly involved in a workout.

Recognition Change Before and After Wearing Wigs of the Female Cancer Patients (여성암환자의 가발착용전후 건강과 가발에 대한 인식변화)

  • The subjects of this study were 100 female cancer patients in wearing wigs. First survey was before wearing wigs for the female cancer patients who started losing their hair due to the side effect of the anti-cancer and second survey was after a month in wearing wigs. This study was purposed to analyze the recognition change before and after wearing wigs of the female cancer patients who started losing their hair due to the side effect of the anti-cancer. The gathered data were examined and analyzed through frequency analysis, paired t-test based on the recognition change which affect the quality of life before and after wearing wigs, and change of recognition related to the wigs. According to the results of this study, it is necessary to add wearing wigs as additional services in national health insurance and to educate desirable support program for life quality of female cancer patients in hospital.

  • 서구화된 식습관이 일반화되면서 유방암이 증가하게 된다는 사실은 많이 알려진 일반적인 내용이다. 유방암은 식사와 관련된 요인이 중요하게 작용하는 질환 중 하나로 에스트로겐 분비와 작용에 관여하는 영양소들이 여러 가지 있다. 유방암과 영양에 대한 정보를 이해 적용하고 고른 영양섭취를 하는 것이 권장되며, 암과 영양에 대해 고민할 때는 시기에 따른 지침이 다를 수 있음을 인식해야 한다.

Eating patterns and use of nutritional information in breast cancer survivors treated with radiation therapy in South Korea (일반인과 유방암 환자간의 식행동 및 영양정보에 관한 인식조사)

  • The purposes of this study were 1) to investigate eating behaviors and patterns in breast cancer patients using a newly developed food frequency questionnaire and 2) to examine perception and use of nutritional information about breast cancer treatment among cancer patients treated with radiation therapy. Sixty breast cancer patients (case group) undergoing radiation therapy in Ajou University Hospital, Suwon, South Korea and 79 healthy women (control group) participated in this study. Mean age of subjects in the control group was $46.00{\pm}7.88$ years and BMI was $23.12{\pm}2.85kg/m^2$, and that of the case group was $50.06{\pm}11.64$ years and $22.32{\pm}3.24kg/m^2$. The results of eating behaviors showed several significant differences between control and case groups. Breast cancer patients ate meals on a more regular basis, on time, and more frequently compared to control subjects. In addition, they preferred more salty or spicy and bland food compared to healthy women. According to answers from the food frequency questionnaire, breast cancer patients consumed significantly lower amounts of boiled white rice, meats and processed food, fish and shellfish, coffee, milk, and cheese, whereas they consumed a significantly large amount of boiled multigrain rice, vegetable, seaweeds, soybean and processed food, and yoghurt compared to healthy women. This study also observed the way in which cancer patients and healthy control subjects obtain information about breast cancer treatment and its reliabilities. Results showed that healthy women did not hesitate to obtain information from mass media, while breast cancer patients would obtain nutritional information from specialists rather than mass media. Results of this survey confirmed that breast cancer patients avoided intake of red meat protein, even though they already recognized the importance of dietary protein intake for recuperation and treatment of the disease. These results could be used for future diet and nutrition guidelines for breast cancer patients.

Cancer survivor's dietary safety management awareness and competency type (암 생존자의 식생활 안전관리 인식과 역량 유형)

  • Purpose: Although the number of cancer survivors is increasing because of early diagnosis and better treatment, they are worried about relapses and metastasis. This study examined the dietary safety management awareness, capacity, and behavior of cancer survivors. Methods: Data were collected from 233 cancer survivors in Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas using a self-administered 5-Likert questionnaire from March to May 2018. Frequency analysis, one-way analysis of variance, factor analysis, reliability analysis, and correlation analysis were analyzed using the SPSS. Results: The average score for each factor was as follows: importance of weight management (3.83), education requirement (3.79), unhealthy diet (reverse, 3.64), food safety anxiety (3.34), lack of awareness of over and malnutrition (reverse, 3.26), obsession (3.23), cooking capacity (3.16), health-function pursuit (3.04), balanced diet (2.93), and chronic disease anxiety (2.64). The average dietary safety competency factors were significantly lower among the male survivors, aged 60-80 years, lower economic condition, and less nutritional supplement intake. Female survivors comprised the highest proportion with high health management and cooking capacity, while men had the lowest of all the factors (p < 0.001). The group that was low in all three capacity factors had a significantly lower average score of difficulty in acquiring knowledge (reverse), lack of awareness of over- and malnutrition (reverse), importance of weight management, education requirement, knowledge, balanced diet, and health-functional pursuit compared to the other groups (p < 0.001). Conclusion: To effectively manage health, dietary safety management education should be differentiated and actively conducted according to sex, age, cancer diagnosis time, economic status, nutritional supplement intake, and the capacity cluster of cancer survivors.

A Study on the Real-time Word Spotting by Continuous density HMM (연속분포 HMM에 의한 실시간 Word Spotting 에 관한 연구)

  • 연속분포 HMM을 사용한 실시간 로봇 암 제어 시스템에 대해 기술하고 있다. 본 시스템은 자연스러운 문장의 로봇 암 제어 명령 발성을 받아 핵심단어 인식의 framework을 통한 명령 인식 및 로봇 제어를 구현하고 있다. 로봇 몸체의 부분, 방향, 각도, 동작명령들에 대해 각기 우향 HMM, 이외의 비 핵심어들에 대해서는 이들을 한데 모아 ergodic형 상태천이를 모델링하는 garbage HMM을 형성했는데, 조사, 감탄사 등을 따로 모은 garbage 모델과, silence 및 배경 잡음에 대한 garbage 모델을 형성, 학습 및 인식에 포함시켜 연결단어 인식을 수행함으로써 핵심단어 인식의 효과를 얻었다. 이때 핵심단어들의 사용에 있어 간단한 문법적 제약을 가정하였다. 남성화자 35명을 대상으로 30개 문형에 대해 데이터 수집용 개념적 문장을 구성하여 음성 데이터를 수집하였다. 학습 화자에 대한 제어 명령 인식률은 95% 이상을 나타내고 있으며, 비 학습화자에 대한 인식율은 90% 이상이다. 또한 학습된 단어외의 비 핵심단어들의 사용에 대해서도 긍정적인 인식 성능을 보였다.

Concepts about Diet and cancer of Highly Educated Korean Young Parents Residing in America (미국에 거주하는 젊은 한국인 부모의 식사와 암에 대한 개념 조사)

  • This study examined Korean young parents' current concept about diet and cancer to plan a proper communication strategy about nutrition education for cancer risk reduction. The naturalistic study using in-depth open ended interviews was conducted to identify Korean young parents' concepts about diet and cancer. Fourteen Korean husbands and wives were interviewed, All interviews were tape recorded and concept maps were developed from their tape-recordings for analysis. Most interviewees believed that certain kinds of food or diet increase or decrease cancer risk. However some interviewees did not believe that food or diet can prevent cancer. most interviewees believed that KIorean's salty and hot diet was related to the prevalence of stomach cancer,. They also believed that meat fresh smoked or cured processed food and excessive fat intake increase the risk for cancer but vegetables and fruits decrease it They believed that grilling and barbecuing increase cancer risk Some interviewees believed that certain nutrients (Zn. Se) and food(soybean paste mushroom garlic ginseng and so on) have cancer preventive effect. Most interviewees though twenties or early thirties are important ages for cancer preven-tion. Newspapers woman's magazines radio TV were the primary source of information on diet and cancer.

A Study on the Effect of Info Seeking on Breast Cancer Screening Intention: Focusing on HBM and Autonomous Motives (건강 정보 추구가 유방암 검진행동에 미치는 영향 연구: 건강신념모형과 자율적 동기를 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to find ways to improve people's perceptions to prevent and detect breast cancer. Health belief model(HBM) was used to examine the relationship between. risk perception of breast cancer, and benefit perception, and information seeking. In addition, the role of autonomous motives was included in the model. The results shows that the more people perceived cancer as dangerous, or perceived cancer screeing as beneficial, the more likely they seek relavant health information. Also, high autonomous motives showed positive effects on info seeking. Information seeking behaviors also had a positive impact on health screening intentions.

Nurses' Perception on Fluid Therapy for Terminally Ill Patients (말기 환자의 수액요법에 대한 간호사의 인식)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate how nurses who take care of terminal patients perceive fluid therapy and how this therapy is currently being used in hospitals. Methods: This survey included 200 nurses, 87 of whom were working in the oncology units of 3 university hospitals in Seoul, Korea, and 113 were working in 18 hospice centers. The data for this study were collected by means of structured questionnaires and analyzed by using the Statistical Analysis System software. The differences in perception towards fluid therapy between nurses working in oncology units and those working in hospice centers were examined using the $x^2$ test and analysis of covariance. Results: Fluid therapy was perceived more negatively by the nurses from hospice centers than by those from oncology units. Continuous subcutaneous infusion was used in hospice centers, but not in oncology units. In addition, the average amount of fluid infused daily differed significantly between the oncology units and hospice centers. Conclusion: Our results show that there were differences in the perception towards fluid therapy between nurses in different clinical settings. Nurses caring for terminal and palliative care patients should not simply provide or withhold fluid therapy, but rather develop a wider range of views on fluid therapy, focusing on effective alternative interventions.

Perception Survey of Nuclear Power after the Nuclear Plant and Thyroid Cancer Controversy (원자력발전소와 갑상선암 논란 이후 원자력에 대한 인식 조사)

  • In this study, in order to analyze the general awareness of the nuclear power according to the controversy of thyroid cancer around nuclear plant, we investigated risks, preference and economics regarding type of power, and awareness of pre-post nucl ear power targeting the Busan Metropolitan residents. As a result, there has been a change in people's awareness of nuclear power as a result of the controversy thyroid cancer around nuclear plant. Especially, there was the greatest increase in the risk factors compared to before the event(p<0.05). Negative awareness of nuclear risk was shown to be expressed differently accor ding to the difference between groups. It is thought that this is due to the different prior experience of each individuals or obtained information through the interaction with others rather than on scientific and objective grounds. In order to establish a nuclear power policy considering the level of the people in the future, it seems that the efforts to understand the attitudes and opinions of people about nuclear power and above all, a scientific trust in nuclear power should be guaranteed.
