In this study, we investigated the activity of Pd and Pt supported on acidic Fe-ZSM5 supports for selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia ($NH_3$-SCO). Among the catalysts, Pt/Fe-ZSM5 catalyst exhibited superior $NH_3$-SCO activity to Pd/Fe-ZSM5 catalyst. We also tested Pt/Fe-ZSM5 catalysts with different Fe loading using ion-exchange method to prepare Fe-ZSM5 supports, which resulted in the increased catalytic performance with smaller Fe content: $NH_3$ was oxidized completely at low temperature ($250^{\circ}C$). The physicochemical properties of Fe-ZSM5 were investigated to figure out the relationship between the characteristics of the catalysts and the catalytic activity on $NH_3$-SCO by Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emissions spectrometer (ICP-AES), $N_2$ sorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD), temperature programmed desorption of $NH_3$ ($NH_3$-TPD) technique.
The catalytic behavior of the manganese oxides was studied for the selective catalytic reduction with ammonia at a low temperature condition under $200^{\circ}C$. Outlet unreacted ammonia increases with decreasing temperature and increasing $NH_3/NOx$ mole ratio, however $NO_2$ shows an opposite result. $NO_2$ is generated by the adsorption of NO on the catalyst and the following oxidization to nitrates. Unreacted NH3 slip is not observed even at the $NH_3/NOx$ feed ratio above 1.0 due to the reaction between formed nitrates on the catalyst and adsorbed ammonia. The addition of Zr increases $NO_2$ generation, whereas the addition of CeO2 on the catalyst decreases $NO_2$ generation. Furthermore, the additon of the metal oxide induce DeNOx efficiency to reduce.
In this study, selective catalytic oxidation (SCO) of $NH_3$ using $Ce/TiO_2$ catalyst was examined to control the slipped NH3 from various pollutants. It was found that the catalytic activity increased with increasing the Ce loadings till reaching 10 wt% Ce loading. However, when Ce loaded over 10 wt%, the activity of catalysts rather decreased than that of catalysts, below 10 wt% Ce. Therefore, the composition of $Ce/TiO_2$ catalyst optimized in this study can be applied to industrial fields.

The catalytic performance of some metal oxides in the vapor phase selective oxidation of $H_2S$ in the stream containing ammonia and water was investigated. Among the catalysts tested $Fe_2O_3/SiO_2$ was the most promising catalyst for practical application. It showed higher than 90% $H_2S$ conversion and very small amount of $SO_2$ emission over a temperature range of $240{\sim}280^{\circ}C$. The effects of reaction temperature, $O_2/H_2S$ ratio, amount of ammonia and water vapor on the catalytic activity of $Fe_2O_3/SiO_2$ were discussed to better understand the reaction mechanism. The $H_2S$ conversion showed a maximum at $260^{\circ}C$ and it decreased with increasing temperature over $280^{\circ}C$. With an increase of $O_2/H_2S$ ratio from 0.5 to 4, the conversion was slightly increased, but the selectivity to elemental sulfur was remarkably decreased. The increase of ammonia amount favored the conversion and the selectivity to elemental sulfur with a decrease in $SO_2$ production. The presence of water vapor decreased both the activity and the selectivity to sulfur, but increased the ATS selectivity.

The selective catalytic oxidation of ammonia was carried out in the presence of natural manganese ore (NMO) and manganese as catalysts using a homemade 1/4" reactor at $10,000hr^{-1}$ of space velocity. The inlet ammonia concentration was maintained at 2,000 ppm, with an air balance. The manganese catalyst resulted in a substantial ammonia conversion, with adsorption activation energies of oxygen and ammonia of 10.5 and 22.7 kcal/mol, respectively. Both $T_{50}$ and $T_{90}$, defined as the temperatures where 50% and 90% of ammonia, respectively, are converted, decreased significantly when alumina-supported manganese catalyst was applied. Increasing the manganese weight percent by 15 wt% increased the lower temperature activity, but 20 wt% of manganese had an adverse effect on the reaction results. An important finding of the study was that the manganese catalyst benefits from a strong sulfur tolerance in the conversion of ammonia to nitrogen.

$V_{2}O_{5}$/$TiO_{2}$ catalyst can be deactivated by ammonium salts formed by $SO_{2}$ oxidation and unreacted ammonium in presence of $SO_{2}$ in flue gas. The deactivation of catalyst by $SO_{2}$ depends on the $SO_{2}$ oxidation to $SO_{3}$. The oxidation of $SO_{2}$ is weakly affected by oxygen concentration, and strongly by the amount of vanadium loaded onto titania supports. Because unreacted ammonia is one of elements to form the ammonium salts, it is important to control the mole ratio of $NH_{3}/NOx$ in SCR. Thus the experiments about $NH_{3}/NOx$ were carried out. The reason of low activity of catalyst deactivated by ammonium salts is the change of pore volume. And TPD (Temperature Programmed Decomposition) was performed to find the decomposition of ammonium bisulfate on deactivated catalyst.
As a basic study on recovery of valuable metals such as vanadium and nickel from metal oxide obtained from waste orimulsion ash, we conducted selectively leaching of vanadium and nickel using $Na_2CO_3$ leaching and ammoniacal leaching, respectively. The 97% of vanadium was selectively leached at an optimum experimental condition, 50g/L $Na_2CO_3$, pulp density 50g/L, and 35% $H_2O_2$ 50ml/L, $25^{\circ}C$... for 1 hr, whereas no nickel was leached. In ammoniacal leaching study, 95% of nickel was selectively leached at the optimal experimental condition, $NH_4OH\;2M,\;(NH_4){_2}SO_4$ 1.5M, pulp density 50g/L, 25, for 4 hr along with 3% of vanadium.
The present work studied the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NO to $N_2$ by $NH_3$ over $V/TiO_2$ focusing on NOx control for the stationary sources. The SCR process depends mainly on the catalyst performance. The reaction characteristics of SCR with $V/TiO_2$ catalysts were closely examined at low and high temperature. In addition, adsorption and desorption characteristics of the reactants on the catalyst surface were investigated with ammonia. Seven different $TiO_2$ supports containing the same loading of vanadia were packed in a fixed bed reactor respectively. The interaction between $TiO_2$ and vanadia would form various non-stoichiometric vanadium oxides, and showed different reaction activities. There were optimum calcination temperatures for each samples, indicating different reactivity. It was finally found from the $NH_3-TPD$ test that the SCR activity was nothing to do with $NH_3$ adsorption amount.
Selective nitrification and granulation have been carried out in a pilot scale air-lift sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for stable and economical nitrogen removal from wastewater. The SBR showed about 100% nitrification efficiency up to 1.0 kg ${NH_4}^+-N/m^3{\cdot}d$, about 90% efficiency at 1.0-2.0 kg ${NH_4}^+-N/m^3{\cdot}d$, and it was less than 90% when the load was higher than 2.0 kg ${NH_4}^+-N/m^3{\cdot}d$. Nitrite accumulation was induced by selective inhibition of nitrite oxidizing bacteria by free ammonia inhibition and dissolved oxygen limitation. For the purpose, high nitrite ratio (> 0.95) was obtained by keeping the pH higher than 8.0 and dissolved oxygen lower than 1.5 mg/L. In addition, sludge granulation was achieved by keeping reactor settling time to 5 minutes to wash out poor settling sludge and to promote the growth of granulation sludge. The operation accelerated sludge granulation and the sludge volume index (SVI) decreased and stably maintained to less than 75 in 60 days.
