Study for Whitening Activity of Mixture of Arbutin and Oil Soluble Licorice Extract (알부틴과 유용성감초 추출물 혼합물에 의한 미백활성 연구)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate whitening effect of combination between arbutine and oil soluble licorice extract. Inhibitory effects of arbutin and oil soluble licorice extract against tyrosinase activity and melanogenesis in B16 melanoma cells were assessed in vitro to determine whitening effect. MTT assay with B16 melanoma cells showed that mixture (arbutin and oil soluble) was not each concentration. Both oil soluble licorice extract and arbutin induced dose-dependent inhibition of mushroom tyrosinase activity. Various concentrations (oil soluble extract : arbutin = 1:1. 1:1.5, 1:2, 1:2.5, 1:5) of mixtures also significantly inhibited tyrosinase activity in B16 melanoma cells by 40-51%. In addition, the mixtures reduced the melanin contents of B16 melanoma cells by more than 50% at each concentration. These results suggest that mixtures of arbutin and oil soluble licorice extract are very effective whitening ingredients.

Inhibition of Melanogenesis by Ramalin from the Antarctic Lichen Ramalina terebrata (남극 지의류 Ramalina terebrata로부터 분리된 라말린의 미백효과)

  • Ramalin (${\gamma}$-glutamyl-N'-(2-hydroxyphenyl)hydrazide) isolated from the Antarctic lichen Ramalina terebrata has been shown to have strong antioxidant activities in the previous study. To investigate additional activities of ramalin, we studied the effects of ramalin on melanogenesis in melan-a cells, a non-tumorigenic melanocyte cell line. At a non-cytotoxic concentration, ramalin dramatically decreased melanin synthesis in melan-a cells in a dose-dependent manner, which was more potent than arbutin, a well-known tyrosinase inhibitor. Ramalin inhibited cell-free tyrosinase activity directly and intracellular tyrosinase activity as well. Its inhibitory mechanisms on melanin production were further assessed, and we found that ramalin significantly decreased the protein levels of melanogenic enzymes such as tyrosinase, tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TRP-1), and tyrosinase-related protein 2 (TRP-2). However, the mRNA levels of these enzymes were not altered. In a clinical study, application of 0.2 % ramalin on human skin significantly improved the degree of skin brightness after 3 weeks. In conclusion, ramalin has strong anti-melanogenic activity that is exerted both by the direct inhibition of tyrosinase activity and by down-regulation of melanogenic proteins. Furthermore, ramalin showed skin brightening effect in a clinical study. Collectively, these results suggest that ramalin may be a useful inhibitor for melanogenesis in skin.

New Whitening Agent : Selina-4(14), 7(11)-dien-8-one (신규 미백제 : Selina-4(14), 7(11)-dien-8-one)

  • We had previously reported that Selina (selina-4(14), 7(11)-dien-8-one) was isolated from methanol extract of Afractylodes rhizome and has strong whitening activity in B16 melanoma cells. In this report, we demonstrated its action mechanism in melan-a cells, non-tumorigenic melanocytes. We also investigated the clinical efficacy of cosmetic preparation containing Selina. Selina reduced the melanin synthesis of Melan-a cells by $50\%$ at a concentration of $10 {\mu}g/mL$ without any apparent cytotoxicity. We also found that the treatment of cells with Selina decreased tyrosinase activity by $60\%$ at a concentration of $10 {\mu}g/mL$ but Selina was not a direct inhibitor of tyrosinase activities. To elucidate the action mechanism of Selina, we investigated the changes in mRNA and protein level of tyrosinase, TRP-1 and TRP-2 using RT-PCR and western blotting, respectively. As a result, the mRNA and protein level of tyrosinase were markedly reduced at $10 {\mu}g/mL$ of Selina without any effect on TRP-1 and TRP-2. These results suggest that Selina exerts its whitening effect mainly through regulating expression of tyrosinase. A 7 week-clinical trial using formulation containing $0.2\%$ selina-4(14), 7(11)-dien-8-one with 20 volunteers resulted in statistically significant whitening effect (p < 0.05), without any adverse effect. Based on these results, Selina (selina-4(14), 7(11)-dien-8-one) can be s useful and safe ingredient for the cleanness and brightness of skin.

Typography for Efficient Visual Flow of Text Focused on Hangul (텍스트의 효율적 시각흐름을 위한 타이포그래피-한글을 중심으로-)

  • This study is intended to suggest the method of text arrangement in order to enhance visual perception which would help darify its communication. One hundred subjects without restriction of gender and profession participated in each experiment :their reading time was measured by the 0.01 second. The Analysis of Variance(two-way ANOVA without interaction) was performed for each experiment and the p value was 0.0001 which implies that there was a strong consistency among test results. Based on the first results, it is found that there is a consistent relationship between type size and text line length, and the following discovery was made ; the most effective ratio of type size to line length is approximately 1 :8. Judging from the Second and Third results, it seems that the vertical text arrangement is most efficient for reading regardless of text line length. So to make same rreading direction is more important than to narrow down the eye moving distance between column and column for efficient visual flow. This research supports the view that considering efficient eye movement on text, it is important to understand the mentioned variables that affect visual interpretation.

Aesthetic Characteristics and UX Evaluation of Mobile Platforms (모바일 플랫폼의 미학적 특징과 UX 평가)

  • Minimalism means abstinence characterized by simplicity, clarity, repetition, and exclusion while skeuomorphism means visual metaphor design characterized by retro, function, and emotion. Mobile platform interface has been developed based on those two aesthetic characteristics and user experience is evaluated using apple iOS6 and iOS7 representing skeuomorphism and minimalism respectively in this paper. Those two aesthetic designs on typography, color, and icon were tested with a sample of 35 undergraduate participants in the repeated measures design and the results showed that participants distinguished two types of aesthetic designs, and evaluated that iOS7 is superior to iOS6 on typography and identity. Comparing the levels of the three variables, aesthetic of typography, and accuracy, aesthetic and consistency of icon design were significantly differentiated and this means that although accuracy of icon design of iOS6 is superior to iOS7, iOS7 is superior in the rest of it. Overall, the participants had a positive evaluation toward iOS7.

A Study of Surface Treatments of Titanium in Aqueous solutions Containing Phosphate and Calcium Ions (인산과 칼슘 이온을 함유한 수용액중에서의 타이타늄 표면처리)

  • The surfaces of titanium specimens were modified by immersion in calcium phosphate buffered solutions (pH 5.8, 7.0, 8.0) for 10 days and simulated body fluid(SBF) for 30 days by turns. The modified surfaces were characterized using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray diffractometery(XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer(FT-IR), and compared with specimen immersed in only SBF. The results indicated that the immersion in calcium phosphate buffered solutions accelerated the formation of the surface films. The formed layer showed granular shaped microstructure, and recognized as calcium phosphate such as a hydroxyapatite(HA) or a $\beta$-tri-calcium phosphate($\beta$-TCP). The thickness of the layer increased of the buffered solutions in order of pH 8.0, 7.0 and 5.8 and the density increased in order of pH 7.0, 8.0 and 5.8.

수치지도 제작을 위한 지형ㆍ지물의 경계추출

  • 고해상도 위성영상을 이용하여 수치표고모델(DEM) 및 정사영상을 제작해서 수치지도의 갱신 및 지형공간정보체계의 자료기반으로써 활용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 Sobel 연산자를 이용하여 경계추출을 행한 후 스크린 디지타이징 방법으로 경계선을 추출하였다 이렇게 추출된 벡터자료와 기존수치지도와의 중첩을 통해서 건물, 도로, 임야의 평균위치오차를 분석해 보았다. 평균위치오차가 공공측량의 작업규정에 대한 1 : 5,000 수치지도 제작의 허용오차범위에는 들지 못하였지만, 특정 부분의 지형·지물의 경우에는 수정, 보완이 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 그리고, 산악지역 보다는 도심지에서의 경계추출이 뚜렷하기 때문에 위치정밀도가 향상됨을 알 수 있었다.

  • 강우-유출 모델링에 있어 토지피복/이용 상태는 중요한 입력변수로 사용되지만 기존의 다중분광영상을 이용한 분류에는 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 위성탑재 초분광영상인 Hyperion 영상의 분광혼합분석을 통해 도시지역의 수문학적 토지피복/이용 분류를 실시하였으며 분류등급의 기준은 널리 사용되고 있는 SCS 토지피복/이용 등급을 이용하였다. 정확도분석을 위해 항공사진을 디지타이징하여 불투수면적의 비율을 비교하였으며 분광혼합분석 결과와 항공사진에서 불투수면적의 비율은 유사하게 나타났다. 그러나 SCS의 분류등급은 미국을 기준으로 개발되었기 때문에 임계치를 이용하여 분류된 등급과 실제 항공사진판독의 결과가 일부 다르게 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었다.

  • 기업의 경쟁력 제고를 위한 브랜드 커뮤니케이션의 중요성이 높아지고 있는 가운데, 판매-소비 인터페이스의 최전선에 있는 패키지 디자인의 역할과 비중이 커지면서 패키지가 곧 브랜드라는 인식이 생기고 있다. 소비자가 패키지를 통해 느끼는 감성은 시각적 경험이 발생하는 시점과 환경에 따라 달라질 수 있다. 특히, FMCG의 경우, 광고를 통해 축적된 제품에 대한 긍정적 이미지는 실제 매장에서 여러 제품과 동시에 노출되었을 때 제품에 대한 느낌이 상쇄될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 감성경험조건의 차이 즉, 패키지의 노출조건에 따라 감성의 차이가 발생한다는 가설을 세우고, 이를 검증하기 위한 온라인 실험환경을 구축하였다. 실험시나리오를 바탕으로 플래시 툴을 활용하여 인터랙티브한 실험컨텐츠를 제작하고, 평가값은 PHP 를 통해 DB 에 저장하였다. 저장된 데이터는 SPSS로 통계분석을 시도하였다. 본 실험을 통해 독립 노출과 군집노출에 따라 감성의 차이가 발생하며, 감성차이에 영향을 주는 요인으로서 컬러와 타이포그래피가 주된 요인이 된다는 점을 알 수 있었다.

The Altimeter Geoid of the Region of Korean peninsula

  • This paper is to provide a reference surface geoid for geodetic applications of satellite altimeter data. The paticular satellite alone or the combination with other altimeter data could be used for the recovery of geoid un-dulations and gravity anomalies in the ocean areas. This paper also describes the geoidal undulation in the ocean area of Korean Peninusla using Geosat, ERS-1 and Topex/Poseidon data. The results show that the quasi-stationary sea surface topography (557) is estimated to be less than 10 cm RMS value in the ocean area of Korean Peninsula. This can be considered as an altimeter geoid.
