  • In this paper, the performance of the interference cancellation using multiple receive antennas is evaluated for heterogeneous cellular systems when user association and load balancing problems are optimized for cell edge users. The simulation results show that the interference cancellation method remarkably improves the rate performance of load-balanced cells.

  • This paper proposes a novel low-profile omni-directional microstrip antenna to mount on the deployable wing of the observation munition. The proposed antenna is designed on seven hexagonal resonators in a quasi-circular array to achieve a monopolar radiation pattern with a thin substrate. By employing the mesh ground structures, the resonant frequencies and impedance bandwidths of the proposed antenna is investigated. To verify the feasibility of the mesh ground structure, the thin ground wire width is investigated theoretically for improving the 3-dB fractional bandwidth, realized antenna gain and quality-factor. The proposed antenna demonstrates a good monopolar radiation in good agreement with the simulation results. The implemented prototype shows the measured bandwidth of 326 MHz with respect to 5.65% centered at 5.77 GHz and realized gain of 5.49 dBi at 5.84 GHz.

  • This paper presents a single and 2-patch microstrip array antenna operated on a frequency of 10.3GHz(x-band). It outlines the process of designing a microstrip patch array antenna using CST MWS. Initially, a single microstrip antenna was designed, followed by optimization using CST MWS to attain optimal return losses and gain. Subsequently, the design was expanded to create a 2×1 microstrip inset-fed array antenna for the X-band applications. The construction material is Roger RO4350B, with specific dimensions (h=0.79mm, 𝜖r = 3.54). The achieved results include an S11 of -18dB at the resonant frequency (10.3GHz), a gain of 9.82dBi, a bandwidth of 0.165GHz, and a 3-dB beamwidth of 30°, 121° in Az(𝜑=0) and El(𝜑=90) plane, respectively. The future plan involves the fabrication of this array antenna and further expansion to a 4×4 array of microstrip antennas. It is then incorporated on the X-band applications for practical uses.

  • In this paper, we present a low profile 2-layered meander built-in monopole antenna for portable RFID reader using FDTD(Finite Difference Time Domain) method. The input impedance, return loss, and VSWR in the frequency domain are calculated by Fourier transforming the time domain results. The double meander 2-layer structure is used to enhance the impedance matching and increase the antenna gain. The measured bandwidth of the antenna is 0.895 GHz ~ 0.930 GHz for a S11 of less than -10dB. The measured peak gain of proposed low profile RFID built-in antenna is 2.3 dBi. And the proposed built-in antenna for portable RFID reader can offers relatively wide-bandwidth and high-gain characteristics, in respectively. Experimental data for the return loss and the gain of the antenna are also presented, and they are relatively in good agreement with the FDTD results. This antenna can be also applied to mobile communication field, energy fields, RFID, and home-network operations, broadcasting, and other low profile mobile systems.

  • In this paper, the compact CPW-fed antenna with triple folded patch for dual-band WLAN applications is proposed. As the conventional double inverted-L antenna is changed into the C-shaped patch and double inverted-L antenna, the antenna overcomes the narrow-band characteristics according to the miniaturization of the antenna. The proposed antenna with the size of only $16.5mm{\times}29.5mm{\times}1.0mm$ is designed and fabricated by optimized parameters to be operated at 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz band. The antenna is fabricated into FR-4 substrate with thickness of 1.0 mm. We confirm that it is operated as antenna for WLAN applications by obtaining the measured return loss level of < -10 dB at dual-band.

  • A reverberation chamber is widely used in mobile handset measurements due to its faster and simpler measurement process compared to traditional anechoic chambers. We propose an ultra-wideband inverse conical antenna design suitable as a reference antenna in a reverberation chamber. Traditionally, multiple discone antennas are needed to cover more than 10:1 operation bandwidth of a reverberation chamber. The proposed inverse conical antenna offers wideband impedance matching bandwidth by virtue of the linear impedance transition along its oblique side. The antenna is feasible to mount on the conductive walls which can be utilized as a ground to improve the matching bandwidth, antenna gain and radiation patterns. The antenna geometry is optimized using a 3D electromagnetic simulation tool and fabricated using a 3D printer. The measured results show that the antenna reflection coefficient lower than -10dB and radiation efficiency more than 70% at the frequency range of 0.65~7 GHz.

  • In this paper, we present the performance analysis and design of a multi-path searcher operating over Rayleigh fading channels when multiple transmit antennas are employed in the down-link of W-CDMA system. The simulation results for the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) for 1, 2, and 4 transmit antennas are presented to corroborate the theoretical analyses. We also propose a procedure to find the optimum parameters of double-dwell serial searcher according to the number of the multiple transmit antennas. Our analyses and simulations indicate that post-detection integration is not necessary when the number of transmit antennas is more than two. Finally, we found that increasing transmit diversity order does not necessarily improve the detection performance when the received pilot signal strength is relatively low. Therefore, this gives us a practical criterion on increasing transmit diversity order.

  • In this paper, the spiral planar monopole antenna mounted on a Cellular/WCDMA handset is designed. Frequency characteristics is optimized with various design parameters. The two spiral lines are adopted in order to implement Cellular frequency bandwidth and WCDMA frequency bandwidth. The bandwidth of the realized antenna is $0.805{\sim}0.892$ GHz(10 %) and $1.867{\sim}2.302$ GHz(21 %) for VSWR${\leq}2$ which contain the proposed frequency bandwidth. In human head, the simulated value on 1 g and 10 g averaged SAR caused by electromagnetic wave radiated in the designed antenna is compared with the measured value. As a result, the measured values of 1 g and 10 g averaged SAR were similar to the simulated values, which were lower than the SAR guidelines.

  • In this paper, GPS / GLONASS receiving a small active antenna is proposed. A microstrip patch antenna which supports dual-band (GPS and GLONASS) was optimized. The antenna size is $13{\times}13{\times}3.6mm$. The jig was changed to confirm the proposed antenna characteristic size, was adjusted to feed gap of the patch antenna, it was confirmed by change in LNA shield case or not. The antenna jig size is $65.6{\times}13{\times}0.8mm$. The maximum gain of the GPS band is 3.78dBi, the maximum gain of the GLONASS bands is 4dBi. To amplify the Satellite reception signal level, one-stage low noise amplifier(LNA) was designed. The LNA chip was using the BGA715 N7, the LNA gain is 19.9dB. The utilization possibility of the GPS / GLONASS receiving a small active antenna could be confirmed according to compare and analyze the simulation and measurement data.
