A Study on Process Analysis of Visual Understanding on accordance in Attention Time (주시시간에 따른 시각적 이해과정 분석에 관한 연구)

  • When observing an object in a space, a part of it is remembered into our perception in the time for paying attention or conscious observation and it reaches to our visual understanding. In this study, it examined characteristics by each subject through the process of visual understanding by changes in such observation time. The results from this study are summarized as belows: First, through analysis of the observation data focused on the distance between the observed points, it was able to apply those visual theories organized before to the analysis of characteristics of the time for understanding by each subject. Second, there showed big differences in the time for visual understanding by each subject according to changes in the observation time so that it was found that there were big differences according to the characteristics of subject's intention or purpose of the observation of a space. Third, as the number of continuous observation gives an important clue in judgement of how well the space was understood, it was able to compare and organize the mutual characteristics of the time the attention was concentrated, the time observed intentionally and the time understood visually. Fourth, it was found that the shorter subjects gave the intentional observation in observing a space, the longer they spent the time for paying attention, while the less they could understand it visually.

  • Mirror movements in adult is usually accompanied with various clinical syndromes. But the pathogenesis of mirror movement is not clearly understood. A 20-year-old man visited with complaining of mirror movements in both hands, ophthalmoplegia and sensorineural hearing loss. He underwent through electromyography, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and functional magnetic resonance image. And we concluded that the mechanisms of his mirror movements were both ipsilateral innervated corticospinal tract and simultaneous activation of both motor cortex.

Clinical Characteristics of Orbital Cellulitis in Children (소아 안와 연조직염의 임상적 고찰)

  • Purpose : Ocular adnexal and orbital infections are broadly divided into preseptal(periorbital) and postseptal(orbital) cellulitis by orbital septum. In this study, we investigated the difference between periorbital and orbital cellulitis regarding their pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, treatments, and prognosis. Methods : We reviewed medical records of 50 cases who were hospitalized in the Severance hospital due to orbital cellulitis from May 1995 to April 2004. Results : There were 32 males and 18 females. The mean age was $3.2{\pm}3.5$ year. According to the result of orbital computerized tomography, 36 cases were periorbital cellulitis, 10 cases orbital cellulitis and 4 cases not diagnosed. The clinical manifestations of periorbital cellulitis are periorbital swelling(100%), fever(19%), orbital pain(6%), and chemosis(22%). On the other hand, those of orbital cellulitis are periorbital swelling(100%), fever(80%), orbital pain(60%), proptosis(20%), chemosis(70%) and limitation of eye movement(20%). The etiologies of periorbital cellulitis are sinusitis(14%), upper respiratory infection(8%), conjunctivitis (19%), skin wound(14%) and unknown(44%). The etiologies of orbital cellulitis are sinusitis (50%), upper respiratory infection(20%), and unknown(30%). The first line antibiotics used in the majority of cases were combinations of cefoxitin+aminoglycoside. 5 patients with orbital cellulitis taking cefoxitin+aminoglycoside had to change the medication into vancomycin or clindamycin. 3 patients with orbital cellulitis underwent operation while 1 patient developed bacterial meningitis. Conclusion : According to invasion of orbit, ocular adnexal and orbital infections are quite different in their pathogenesis, treatment and prognosis. As atypical cases may confound the diagnosis, prompt orbital computerized tomography is required for an accurate diagnosis.

Predictive Characteristics of the Oculomotor System to the Periodic Signal (주기신호에 대한 안구운동의 예측 특성)

  • In this paper, we measured the tracking response time of horizontal eye movement to the target moving according to the square waveform to investigate the predictive characteristics of the human oculomotor system. And in the experiment we used the square waves with an amplitude of 5 degree and frequencies o.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, and 1.2 Hz. Random occurrences of the human eye movement reponse time were analyzed using a finite Markov chain process and we found the results as follows. From both the experimental and theoretical results, we found the trend showing that Predictive characteristics moved from the transient state to the steady state.

  • Experiments on the eye movement behavior were performed using Vidicon Eye Camera. Factorial design ( $3{\times}3$) was used to evaluate the validity of the eye movement as a performance measure in vigilance task. Eye movement data were recorded in video tapes, then the data were converted to digital signals, which were reduced to quantitative fixation and saccadic movement data by a microcomputer. To compare with existing vigilance performance measures, response time and the number of false alarms were also recorded. The results showed that the saccadic movement is a good measure of the performance in vigilance task : 1. Both the response time and the saccadic movement increased significantly during the initial two time blocks. 2. High correlations were shown between the response time and the saccadic movement. 3. The locational uncertainty affects the saccadic movement, the number of fixations, the response time but doesn't affect the duration of eye fixations.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 Graphic Simulator를 이용한 감성자극제시 및 측정연구에서 큰 변수로 작용하는 Simulator Sickness(SS)가 시간, 성별 그리고 Sick와 Non-sick 그룹에 따라 어떻게 변화하는지를 알아보고자 한다. 피험자는 신체 건강한 남녀 10명(남자 5명, 여자 5명)을 대상으로 하였다. Simulator Sickness Questionnaire(SSQ)를 이용하여 16가지 SS증상을 측정하고, 메스꺼움, 안구운동불편, 방향감각사실, Total Simulator Sickness 점수를 계산하였다. 실험 결과, Simulator Sickness는 남녀 모두 시간에 따라 계속 증가하는 경향을 나타내었고, 성별에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 또한 Sick와 Non-sick 그룹사이에 통계적 유의차(p<0.05)를 발견할 수 있었으며, Sick 그룹의 평균 점수가 더 높게 나타났다.

A Statistical Approach to Analysis of Saccadic Eye Movements (Saccadic 안구운동 해석에 대한 통계학적인 접근)

  • In this study we propose an approach based on statistical method which use the whole of saccades instead of using a few points of saccades in the quantitative analyse saccades. We computed statistical parameters such as mean velocity, quadratic mean velocity, standard duration, skewness of saccades velocity, flattness factor of saccades velocity, and mean delay by considering eye velocity as a probability density function. The results abtained are the following as ; This parameters showed the same trend like that of the main sequence. They were not biased by the systematic errors due to the arbitrary threshold. They were also less sensitive to noise, which was tested through the model simulation. So they are expected to provide a more comprehensive quantitative description of the dynamic properties of saccade in the diagnostic field.

  • 기계 학습에서 입력 데이터의 차원을 줄이는 문제(dimension reduction)는 매우 중요한 문제 중의 하나이다. 입력 변수의 차원이 늘어남에 따라 처리해야하는 연산의 수와 계산 복잡도가 급격히 늘어나기 때문이다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 다수의 기계 학습 알고리즘은 명시적으로 차원을 줄이거나(feature selection), 데이터에 약간의 연산을 가하여 차원이 작은 새로운 입력 데이터를 만든다(feature extraction). 반면 사람이 여러 종류의 고차원 센서 데이터를 입력받아 빠른 시간 안에 정확하게 정보를 처리할 수 있는 가장 큰 이유 중 하나는 실시간으로 판단하여 가장 필요한 정보에 집중하기 때문이다. 본 연구는 사람의 정보 처리 과정을 기계 학습 알고리즘에 반영하여, 집중도를 이용하여 효율적으로 데이터를 처리하는 방법을 제시한다. 이 성질을 시각 하이퍼네트워크 모델에 반영하여, 효율적으로 고차원 입력 데이터를 다루는 방법을 제안한다. 실험에서는 시각 하이퍼네트워크를 이용하여 고차원의 이미지 데이터에서 행동을 분류하였다.

A new approach for the saccadic eye movement system simulation (Saccade 안구운동계의 시뮬레이션)

  • Various simulation techniques were developed in the modeling of biological system during the last decades. Mostly analog and hybrid simulation techniques have been used. The authors chose the Digital Analog Simulation (DAS) technique by using the MIMIC language to simulate the saccadic eye movement system performances on the digital computer. There have been various models presented by many investigators after Young & Stark's sampled-data model. The eye movement model chosen by the authors is Robinson's model III which shows the parallel information processing characteristics clearly to the double-step input stimuli. In the process of simulation, the parameter and constants used were based on the neurophysiological data of the human and animals. The analog model blocks were converted to the corresponding MIMIC block diagrams and programmed into the MIMIC statements. The program was run on the CDC Cyber 72-14 computer. The essential input stimulus was double-step of 5 and 10 degrees, and target durations chosen were 50,100 and 150 msec. The results obtained by the DAS technqiue were in good agreement with analog simulation carried out by other investigators as well as with the experimental human saccadic eye movement responses to double-step target movements.

  • Oculomotor nerve palsy is a disorder which causes eyeball movement trouble, dipleopia, dizziness and eyelid ptosis. It is caused by aneurysm, mass, truma, intracranial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, infection and so on. But sometimes we can't establish the cause. We report a case of oculomotor nerve palsy associated with spleen energy(脾氣). We treated a patient with herb medicine and acupuncture. This study suggests that oriental medicine theraphy has a good effect on the oculomotor nerve palsy.
