  • In order to investigate the relationship between the menarche and the bone maturity of growing girls, the author interviewed about the date of menarche of 70 girls and assessed their bone maturity by hand-wrist radiographs. The results and conclusion were as iollows ; 1. The mean menarcheal age was $12.04{\pm}0.82$ year. 2. There was significant correlation between the time interval after menarche and the ossification stage. 3. The skeletal maturation level at menarche was stage SMI 7 and SMI 8. 4. There was statistically different among the time intervals after menarche according to the ossification stage. 5. The epiphyseal union of radius began about 2 years after menarche. According to this study, the probability of clinical use can be accepted in some range. In another words, skeletal age can be predicted by just interviewing the date and time interval of menarche without hand-wrist radiograph, also, with this information, the level of maxillofacial growth can be assessed.

A LONGITUDINAL CEPHALOMETRIC STUDY OF THE CRANIOFACIAL GROWTH CHANGES OF ADOLESCENCE WITH NORMAL OCCLLUSION (청소년기 정상교합자의 악안면 성장에 관한 두부방사선 규격사진 분석에 의한 누년적 연구(Ricketts분석법에 의한 연구))

  • This study was performed to establish the cephalometric standards and growth changes necessary to create the Growth Forecast without Treatment at adolescence. The data from biennial serial cephalometric radiographs of 25 male and 21 female subjects aged from 8 to 16 years of Normal Koreans were used for this study. The following results were obtained. 1. There were no significant value changes of facial axis angle, fn to palatal plane angle, BA-NA-A angle, lower facial height and lower incisor protrusion as the age increased. 2. From continuous increasing measurements(anterior and posterior cranial babe length, facial axis length, condyle axis length, corpus axis length), the annual growth changes, average annual growth changes and changes for 8 years were obtained. 3. From continuous increasing measurements, significant differences were observed between male and female subjects in most annual growth changes after age of 12 years, average annual growth changes and changes for 8 years (p<0.05). 4. All linear and angular measurements were plotted by using X-Y plotter and personal computer. The visual norms for both sexes were obtained. There was considerable growth, for male, for each period especially the most remarkable growth from the age of 12 to 14. For female, the upmost growth was showed from the age of 10 to 12, and gradually decreased since then.

  • Three dimensional analysis of malocclusion and craniofacial deformation is essential for the successful orthodontic treatment. But the orthodontists are not familiar with diagnosis and treatment plane based on lateral cephalometric analysis. Since orthodontists do not posses a sufficient knowledge in standard value of posteroanterior cephalometric anaysis and of clinical importance for transverse jaw growth. In this study male(n=130) and female(n=171) aged from 6 to 16 and diagnosed as Class I malocclusion were selected to analysis width of cranium, maxilla and mandible on the posteroanterior cephalogram. The changes as a function of chronologic age and cervical vertebrae maturity index(CVXI) were examined. The Proper regression model was selected by sex with polynominal regression models and method of variable selection. Mean of each measurements and 70% confidence interval of individual measurement according to age was assesed and a graphs were made. Results are as follows :1. All the measurements for the width are gradually incresed as increase in chronologic age and CVMI. From the total amount of change between age 6 and 16, there is a tendency that mandibular width is broader than maxillary width and the width of male is broader than female. 2. There is no statistically significant sexual difference in Mx-Mn difference, Mx-Mn width differential, Mx/Mn ratio according to age and CVMI. 3. Mean of each measurement and 70% confidence interval of individual measurement according to age and sex were assessed and graphs were made for maxillary width, mandibular width, Mx-Mn difference, Mx/Mn ratio. 4. The width of maxilla and mandible in Korean children are broader than Western children during growth period.
