  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the distinctiveness and problem areas in cataloging rules of printed music. In this study, therefore, the characteristics, kinds, and cataloging rules related to a printed music are examined first as the backgrounds. Then the sources of information, title and general material designation, musical representation statement, publication.distribution.etc., physical description, notes, etc. in ISBD(PM), Chapter 5 Music of AACR2R 2002 Revision 2004 Update, and Chapter 5 Music of KCR4 are analyzed. And also printed music parts in Bibliographic Data of KORMARC and MARC21 are analyzed. Finally, the special issues and some problems to be considered in cataloging of printed music in KCR4 are presented.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient method to describe and save Jeongganbo score which has various structures and symbols by using XML (Extensible Markup Language). To do this, analysis of Jeongganbo's structures, and classification of symbols for jeongganbo were preformed. Then, Jeongganbo DTD (Document Type Definition) was defined to describe Jeongganbo score in XML document. To verify the proposed method, we produced a Jeongganbo score XML file for real Jeongganbo score according to the proposed Jeongganbo DTD, and then evaluated the produced XML file by using Jeongganbo XML interpreter software which can interpret the Jeongganbo XML file and represent the Jeongganbo score.

  • Digital braille music is an indispensible instrument for the blind persons to enjoy music and to proceed the more professional music education. Producing braille music requires professionals such as braille translators thereby it costs money for an individual to order braille music. Therefore, public libraries involve in producing and distributing braille music. Current status of digital braille music in Korea has been far from the fulfillment with the unmet needs of the blind people for diversity in their music preferences. This paper analyses the present condition of braille music possession in Korea National Library. Based on the analysis, policy proposals has been proposed.

  • Generating chord score based on melody is essential for composition and arrangement, while it is picky for amateurs who do not have harmonics knowledges. To solve this problem, we developed automatic chord score generating program, ACGP. Based on genetic algorithm, it successfully reflects diverse hormonic factors and the mood of the music. User interface was also implemented so that anyone can use the program conveniently. Additional analysis was conducted to prove the utility of ACGP.

  • This paper presents techniques to recognize music using back propagation network one of the neural network algorithms, and to preprocess technique for music mage. Music symbols and music notes are segmented by preprocessing such as binarization, slope correction, staff line removing, etc. Segmented music symbols and music notes are recognized by music note recognizing network and non-music note recognizing network. We proved correctness of proposed music recognition algorithm though experiments and analysis with various kind of musics.

  • Due to the growth of digital media technology, there is increasing demand of personalized education based on context data of learners throughout overall education area. For music education, several studies have been conducted for providing appropriate educational contents to learners by considering some factors such as the proficiency, the amount of practice, and their capability. In this paper, a technique has been defined to recommend the appropriate music scores to learners by extracting and analyzing the practice data and chord data. Concretely, several meaningful relationships among chords patterns and learners were analyzed and visualized by constructing the learners' profiles of proficiency, extracting the chord sequences from music scores. In addition, we showed the potential for use in personalized education by analyzing music similarity, learner's proficiency similarity, learner's proficiency of music and chord, mastered chords and chords sequence patterns. After that, the chord practice programs can be effectively generated considering various music scores using the synthetically summarized chord sequence graphs for the music scores that the learners selected.

  • In this paper, we interpret a score as a time series and deal with the fuzzy logic-based modeling of it. The musical notes in a score represent a lot of information about the length of a sound and pitches, etc. In this paper, using melodies, tones and pitches in a score, we transform data on a score into a time series. Once more, we foml the new Lime series by sliding a window through the time series. For analyzing the time series data, we make use of the Box-Jenkins s time series analysis. On the basis of the identified characteristics of time series, we construct the fuzzy model.
