  • In domestic mountain resort areas, a catenary system cannot be installed for the protection of the natural environment and view. Therefore, mountain trams must be operated wireless. In this study, a local ground pantograph, which supplies electricity to the battery on board, was developed for this purpose, and its performance was verified by tests. The system is installed on ground at stops or repair shops. While a bogie goes to the pantograph, the arms and collection shoes are raised by a spring force to make contact with the collection bar under the bogie so electric power can be supplied to the battery. Because it is a local ground type, it does not require a roof pantograph and catenary system. The system enables the mountain tram to run wireless. In addition, there is no separation and arc because it collects current while standing at stops or shops. The system has a long life because moving contact, which generates wear and damage to shoes, is avoided. The insulation resistance was above the criteria of 10 ㏁, and there was no abnormal temperature increase when a current of 335A was supplied for one hour.

  • Arc thermal spray coating using Al-3%Mg thermal spray wire was carried out to prevent steel from corrosion damage under the marine environment. Post-sealing was applied to Al-3%Mg spray coating treatment using organic/inorganic composite ceramics in order to improve the corrosion resistance of the as-sprayed coating. The results of various electrochemical experiments with sealing treatment indicated that the improvement in corrosion resistance was observed due to low current density in all applied potential range during anodic and cathodic polarization experiments. Futhermore, the natural potential measurement exhibited severe potential fluctuation due to influence of micro-crack presence on the surface of sealed thermal spray coating layer. In addition, the sealed layer was easily eliminated during anodic polarization. Nevertheless, Al-3%Mg spray coating layer improved corrosion resistance by sealing treatment because the sealed coating efficiency was determined to be 92.11%, indicating the exterior environment barrier effect which is based on the Tafel analysis.

  • Catenary and Pantograph are used to transmit electrical energy to electric railways. Catenary (Overhead Contact Lines) should be installed precisely and managed for stable train operations. But external factors such as weather, temperature, etc., or aging affect catenary geometry. Changed catenary stagger and height cause high voltage spark or instant electric contact loss. Big spark derived from contact loss can damage the pantograph carbon strip and overhead contact lines that might interrupt the train operations. Therefore, to prevent a big scale spark or electric contact loss, catenary maintenance are required catenary geometry measurement systems with catenary maintenance capability. In this paper, we describe the development of catenary height and stagger measurement system. The catenary height and stagger measurement system uses Acuity company's AR4000 Laser Range Finder for distance measurement and AccuRange Line Scanner for degree measurement. This system detects suspicious overhead line sections with excessive stagger and height stagger variance.

  • Purpose: High tension electrical injuries result in major tissue(eg. bones, tendons, vessels and nerves) destruction. Therefore, the management of mutilating wrist caused by electrical injuries still represents a challenge. There are various approaches to this problem including local and regional flaps as well as pedicled distant flaps and microsurgical free tissue transfer. Although it has not gained wide acceptance, because of the technically demanding dissection of the pedicle, posterior interosseous flap is now well accepted for the reconstruction of hand and wrist in hand surgery. The principal advantages of this flap are minimal donor site morbidity, minimal vascular compromise, one stage operation. This flap also offers the advantages of ideal color match and composition. In this report, we describe our experience with the reverse posterior interosseous island flap for reconstruction of mutilating wrist with main vessel injuries. Methods: From October, 2004 to June, 2006, we treated 11 patients with soft tissue defects and main vessel injuries on the wrist that were covered with reverse posterior interosseous island flap. Results: These 11 patients were all male. The ages ranged from 27 to 67 years(mean age 41.75) and the follow-up period varied from 4 to 19 months. Complete healing of the reverse posterior interosseous island flaps were observed in 11 patients(12 flaps). The majority of these flaps showed a certain degree of venous congestion, which in a flap was treated with medical leech. 1 flap has partial necrosis owing to sustained venous congestion, requiring secondary skin graft. flap size varied from $3.5{\times}8cm$ to $10{\times}12cm$(mean size $6.4{\times}8.9m$). The donor site defect was closed directly in 5 flaps, and by skin graft in 7 flaps. Conclusion: We found that the reverse posterior interosseous island flap is reliable and very useful for reconstruction of mutilating wrist and we recommend it as first choice in coverage of soft tissue defects in the wrist with electrical arc injuries.

  • This study investigates pulp chamber temperature rise during composite resin polymerization by plasma arc(Group III : Flipo 3 sec, Group IV : Flipo 5 sec) and LED curing units(Group V : Lux-O-Max, 40 sec) as well as conventional halogen lamp curing units(Group I : VIP mode3, 20 sec, Group II : VIP mode6, 20 sec). The results are as follows : 1. All of the investigated pulp chamber temperature rises are lower than the boundary temperature could result in irreversible damage to the pulpal tissue ($5.5^{\circ}C$). 2. In the group II, it is found the significantly higher pulp chamber temperature rise than any other groups(p<0.05). 3. In the group of composite resin light-cured with VIP, it is found the significantly higher pulp chamber temperature rise in the group II than group I(p<0.05). 4. In the group of composite resin light-cured with Flipo, it is found the significantly higher pulp chamber temperature rise in the group IV than group III (p<0.05). 5. In the case of comparing VIP and Flipo, group II is significantly higher pulp chamber temperature rise than group III, IV(p<0.05), and group IV is significantly higher pulp chamber temperature rise than group I(p<0.05), and it does not significantly differ between group I and III. 6. In the group of composite resin light-cured with Lux-O-Max, it is found the significantly lower pulp chamber temperature rise than any other groups (p<0.05).
