Development of Model Interrupter of 7.2kV $SF_6$ Gas Electromagnetic Contactor Using Rotary Arc Principle (7.2kV급 로타리아크식 $SF_6$가스 전자접촉기 소호부 개발연구)

  • The model interrupters of $SF_6$ gas electromagnetic contactor whose ratings are the voltage of 7.2kV and the short circuit current of 4.0kA have been designed and manufactured on the basis of theoretical and computational analysis for its development. The eddy current analysis, the magnetic field analysis and the calculation of the rotational force on arcs have been conducted using FLUX2D package. The short circuit current interrupting tests have been conducted to the model interrupters using the simplified capacitive synthetic test circuit in KERI. The results show that the model interrupters have a sufficient interrupting capability and the new design concept is proper for a good interrupting performance.

  • Recently, inverter control systems have attracted immense attention to increase the energy efficiency. However, such systems use repeated on/off high currents for linear operation control, instead of the prevalent step variable current control method. Hence, there arise concerns of personal and property damage, especially due to the durability, explosive characteristics, and operating speed of the fuse, which is responsible for safety and is one of the internal components using current control. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an IEC60127-4 SMD sub-miniature fuse, consisting of Ag-Cu alloys and ceramic powder for arc soothing. The IEC60127-4 SMD sub-miniature fuse has high durability and cut-off capacity, and operates safely in dangerous circumstances caused by the inverter control system.

  • In the power distribution panel installed in airport or industrial facilities, MCCB has been used for main switch and ELCB for branch switch to perform human body and leakage-inducing fire protection as well as overcurrent and short circuit protection. Especially for the airport panel, increase in accident protection is needed for stable power supply due to rapid modernization with fast-growing users, higer capacity and diversification of equipment, the increase of power capacity and the breaker made slim is a main issue for now because the issue for installation space is standing out by making panel with two-row arrangement connection method, etc. due to a many use of branch ELCBs. In this thesis, we designed arc extinguishing mechanism, considered movement direction change of contact in mechanism design. Also, we designed the breaker to work stably in case of miniaturization of leakage detection circuit and reverse connection. We conducted short circuit test to verify its function and developed the breaker that can be improved protection against accidental current with slim size operating leakage function when reverse connection to help solve the problem in using space that is increasing in the airport distribution panel.
