In the patients having constipation or irritable bowel syndrome, stellate ganglion block is commonly used in many pain clinics because of its excellent effects. But in the case of patients having spinal cord injury complain constipation, its management is very difficult and there is no report about the effects of stellate ganglion block in this case. We experieced good results that stellate ganglion block was very effective in the patients having spinal cord injury complaining severe constipation and other symptoms.

A 9-month-old female Korean short hair cat weighing 2.2 kg presented for evaluation of a two-week history of obstipation. The owner reported that the cat sustained pelvic fractures 4 months previous to the onset of fecal tenesmus. On physical examination, fecal tenesmus was observed and restriction of the movement of the right coxofemoral joint was evident. Rectal palpation revealed narrowing of the pelvic canal with a hard bony protuberance at the bilateral acetabulum and pubic bones. Radiographs revealed a distended colon with feces and narrowing of the pelvic canal with abnormal structure of the pelvic bone. Conservative management consisting of stool softeners and a warm water enema was instituted; however, there was no improvement in obstipation. Partial iliac, ischial, pubic, and acetabular ostectomies were performed. Postoperative radiographs and rectal palpation revealed the enlarged pelvic canal. Stool softeners (5 ml orally twice daily) was administered following surgery for 14 days and then tapered down to 2.5 ml for 14 days. A warm water enema was performed twice postoperatively. At examination 14 days postoperatively, no problems with defecation and gait were reported. There was no evidence of obstipation and lameness of the left pelvic limb 5 months postoperatively.

A 9-month-old intact male Persian cat (3.2 kg of body weight) was referred with primary complaint of constipation. Diagnostic studies found severe constipation and megacolon. After immediate medical treatment (e.g. enema), the physical examination was performed and revealed that the unusual urethral opening was found approximately 0.5 cm ventral to the tip of the penis where a 3.5 fr tomcat catheter was easily advanced into the bladder. The case was diagnosed as hypospadias. The cat was treated with castration and medical therapy for constipation. To our best knowledge, this case is the first case report for feline hypospadias complicated with chronic constipation in Korea.

This study investigated the effects of dietary slander glasswort extract on improvements in bowel function and constipation relief. Balb/C mice were used to measure transit movement of a charcoal meal after slander glasswort extract was added to their drinking water at 0.36, 0.72, and 1.5 mg/mL concentrations. The extract's constipation relief effects were investigated in Sprague-Dawley rats with loperamide-induced constipation by adding 2, 3, and 4 mg/mL of the extract to their drinking water, and by feeding yogurt containing 0.0, 0.25, and 0.50% slander glasswort extract mixed into a 10-fold amount of water. The mice receiving the extract at 1.5 mg/mL via drinking water had a 16.4% increase in the rate of transit as compared to the controls. In addition, the rats receiving the extract via drinking water and yogurt had increased in constipation relief from 128 to 156% and from 107 to 150%, respectively, as compared to the controls. Based on the results, slander glasswort is considered to have effects on improving bowel function and relieving constipation.

환아는 4개월부터 직장 탈출증과 심한 변비를 보였으며, 9개월에 질로부터 대변이 배출되는 증상을 나타냈으나 검사상 우측 이상 형성 콩팥 및 이소성 요관 이외 특이 소견이 없어 경과 관찰을 시행하였다. 16개월에 전신 마취하에 이학적 검사를 시행하여 누공을 확인하였고 이를 통한 대장 조영술에서 직장 중복증을 진단하여 수술을 시행하였다. 수술 시야에서 직장부터 횡행 결장에 이르는 관형의 뒤창자 중복을 확인하고, 직장-질 누공을 분리하고 결장 및 직장에는 중격절개술을 시행하였으며, 동반된 기형인 이소성 요관과 무기능 우측 신장은 절제하였다. 환아는 수술 후 3년간 잘 지내고 있다. 직장-질 누공을 동반한 관형의 뒤창자 중복은 매우 드문 선천성 기형으로 저자들의 경험을 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다.

Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent skin disease without any cure so far. The symptoms of the guttate psoriasis of Soyangins going through tonsillitis and of the psoriasis under the steroid rebound phenomenon are identical to one of yang poison exanthema of a Soyangin. The study administered Yangdokbagho-tang, which is used to cure yang poison exanthema of Soyangins, and, as a result, showed significant treatment results from these two types of four clinical cases. Sasang medicine is considered an effective treatment method to cure psoriasis, an obstinate skin disease.
