In an event of an emergency, such as fire in a building, visually impaired and blind people are prone to exposed to a level of danger that is greater than that of normal people, for they cannot be aware of it quickly. Current fire detection methods such as smoke detector is very slow and unreliable because it usually uses chemical sensor based technology to detect fire particles. But by using vision sensor instead, fire can be proven to be detected much faster as we show in our experiments. Previous studies have applied various image processing and machine learning techniques to detect fire, but they usually don't work very well because these techniques require hand-crafted features that do not generalize well to various scenarios. But with the help of recent advancement in the field of deep learning, this research can be conducted to help solve this problem by using deep learning-based object detector that can detect fire using images from security camera. Deep learning based approach can learn features automatically so they can usually generalize well to various scenes. In order to ensure maximum capacity, we applied the latest technologies in the field of computer vision such as YOLO detector in order to solve this task. Considering the trade-off between recall vs. complexity, we introduced two convolutional neural networks with slightly different model's complexity to detect fire at different recall rate. Both models can detect fire at 99% average precision, but one model has 76% recall at 30 FPS while another has 61% recall at 50 FPS. We also compare our model memory consumption with each other and show our models robustness by testing on various real-world scenarios.
Recently, the artificial intelligence deep learning field has been hard to commercialize due to the high computing power and the price problem of computing resources. In this paper, we apply a double pruning techniques to evaluate the performance of the in-depth neural network and various datasets. Double pruning combines basic Network-slimming and Parameter-prunning. Our proposed technique has the advantage of reducing the parameters that are not important to the existing learning and improving the speed without compromising the learning accuracy. After training various datasets, the pruning ratio was increased to reduce the size of the model. We confirmed that MobileNet-V3 showed the highest performance as a result of NetScore performance analysis. We confirmed that the performance after pruning was the highest in MobileNet-V3 consisting of depthwise seperable convolution neural networks in the Cifar 10 dataset, and VGGNet and ResNet in traditional convolutional neural networks also increased significantly.

It is essential to protect the national space assets and space environment safely as a space development country from the continuously increasing space debris. And Active Debris Removal(ADR) is the most active way to solve this problem. In this paper, we studied the Artificial Neural Network(ANN) for a stable recognition model of vision-based space debris tracking system. We obtained the simulated image of the space environment by the KARICAT which is the ground-based space debris clearing satellite testbed developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, and created the vector which encodes structure and color-based features of each object after image segmentation by depth discontinuity. The Feature Vector consists of 3D surface area, principle vector of point cloud, 2D shape and color information. We designed artificial neural network model based on the separated Feature Vector. In order to improve the performance of the artificial neural network, the model is divided according to the categories of the input feature vectors, and the ensemble technique is applied to each model. As a result, we confirmed the performance improvement of recognition model by ensemble technique.

With the proliferation of artificial intelligence technology, it is becoming important to obtain, store, and utilize scientific data in research and science sectors. A number of methods for extracting meaningful objects such as graphs and tables from research articles have been proposed to eventually obtain scientific data. Existing extraction methods using heuristic approaches are hardly applicable to electronic documents having heterogeneous manuscript formats because they are designed to work properly for some targeted manuscripts. This paper proposes a prototype of an object extraction system which exploits a recent deep-learning technology so as to overcome the inflexibility of the heuristic approaches. We implemented our trained model, based on the Faster R-CNN algorithm, using the Google TensorFlow Object Detection API and also composed an annotated data set from 100 research articles for training and evaluation. Finally, a performance evaluation shows that the proposed system outperforms a comparator adopting heuristic approaches by 5.2%.
AI-based speed prediction studies have been conducted quite actively. However, while the importance of explainable AI is emerging, the study of interpreting and reasoning the AI-based speed predictions has not been carried out much. Therefore, in this paper, 'Explainable Deep Graph Neural Network (GNN)' is devised to analyze the speed prediction and assess the nearby road influence for reasoning the critical contributions to a given road situation. The model's output was explained by comparing the differences in output before and after masking the input values of the GNN model. Using TOPIS traffic speed data, we applied our GNN models for the major congested roads in Seoul. We verified our approach through a traffic flow simulation by adjusting the most influential nearby roads' speed and observing the congestion's relief on the road of interest accordingly. This is meaningful in that our approach can be applied to the transportation network and traffic flow can be improved by controlling specific nearby roads based on the inference results.

Convolutional neural networks have already been applied to various fields beyond human visual processing capabilities in the image processing area. However, they are exposed to a severe risk of deteriorating model performance due to the appearance of adversarial attacks. In addition, defense technology to respond to adversarial attacks is effective against the attack but is vulnerable to other types of attacks. Therefore, to respond to an adversarial attack, it is necessary to analyze how the performance of the adversarial attack deteriorates through the process inside the convolutional neural network. In this study, the adversarial attack of the Alexnet and VGG11 models was analyzed using the population sparseness index, a measure of neuronal activity in neurophysiology. Through the research, it was observed in each layer that the population sparsity index for adversarial examples showed differences from that of benign examples.

Artificial neural networks are algorithms that simulate learning through interaction and experience in neurons in the brain and that are a method that can be used to produce accurate results through learning that reflects the characteristics of data. In this study, a model using deep neural network was presented to improve the predicted wind speed values in the meteorological dynamic model. The wind speed prediction improvement model using the deep neural network presented in the study constructed a model to recalibrate the predicted values of the meteorological dynamics model and carried out the verification and testing process and Separate data confirm that the accuracy of the predictions can be increased. In order to improve the prediction of wind speed, an in-depth neural network was established using the predicted values of general weather data such as time, temperature, air pressure, humidity, atmospheric conditions, and wind speed. Some of the data in the entire data were divided into data for checking the adequacy of the model, and the separate accuracy was checked rather than being used for model building and learning to confirm the suitability of the methods presented in the study.

In this paper, we propose fully convolutional neural networks based automatic detection of a pothole that directly causes driver's safety accidents and the vehicle damage. First, the training DB is collected through the camera installed in the vehicle while driving on the road, and the model is trained in the form of a semantic segmentation using the fully convolutional neural networks. In order to generate robust performance in a dark environment, we augmented the training DB according to brightness, and finally generated a total of 30,000 training images. In addition, a total of 450 evaluation DB was created to verify the performance of the proposed automatic pothole detection, and a total of four experts evaluated each image. As a result, the proposed pothole detection showed robust performance for missing.
Log data accumulated in the Learning Management System (LMS) provide high-quality information for the learning process of students. Until now, various studies have been conducted to predict students' academic achievement using LMS log data. However, previous studies were based on relatively small sample sizes of students and courses, limiting the possibility of generalization. This study developed and validated a deep neural network model for the early prediction of academic achievement of college students using massive LMS log data. To this end, we used 78,466,385 cases of LMS log data and 165,846 cases of grade data. The proposed model predicted the excellent-grade students with a high level of accuracy from the beginning of the semester. Meanwhile, the prediction accuracy for the moderate and underachieving groups was relatively low, but the accuracy improved as the time points of the prediction were delayed. This study is meaningful in that we developed an early prediction model based on a deep neural network with sufficient accuracy for practical utilization by only using LMS log data.
