Construction Method Improvement of the FRP-plate Strengthening Method using the Velcro (벨크로를 이용한 FRP 플레이트 보강공법의 시공공법 개선)

  • The object of this paper is to study the flexural strengthening effectiveness on the construction method of bonding of the FRP. The existing FRP flexural strengthening methods were divided into FRP sheet strengthening and FRP plate strengthening according to the FRP condition. For improving the existing construction method, this paper proposed the velcro type anchorage system for temporary bonding material, and flexural strengthening effects were tested. Test variables were bonding methods of the FRP strengthening materials, and total 4 specimens were tested. Following to the test results, it is shown that FRP-plate strengthening method using the velcro can get better workability than existing construction methods, and have excellent strengthening performance including flexural strength, stiffness, ductility and failure aspect.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the tenth grade science textbooks as an origin of misconception on greenhouse effect concept and find incorrect descriptions on that concept and then suggest some improved schemes. Some incorrect descriptions, pictures. tables and experiments related to misconceptions on greenhouse effect were found in textbooks. They are considered to contribute to form and reinforce misconceptions on that concept : the most important gas of greenhouse effect, the role of $CO_2$ on the change of greenhouse effect. global warming. energy sources, greenhouse experiments and the physical processes of greenhouse effect. New Technique on the Improvement of Earthquake-Resistant Performance for the Retrofitting of Existing Reinforced Concrete Beam-Column Joints (철근콘크리트 보-기둥 접합부의 내진성능 개선 보강 신기술)

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to improve earthquake-resistant performance for the retrofitting of reinforced concrete beam-column joints using carbon fiber materials in existing reinforced concrete building. Six reinforced concrete beam-column joints were constructed and tested to evaluate the retrofitting effect of test variables, such as the retrofitting materials and retrofitting region(plastic hinge, beam-column joint) under load reversals. Test results show that retrofitting specimen(RPC-CP2, RPC-CR, RJC-CP, RJC-CR), using new materials(carbon fiber plate, carbon fiber rod and carbon fiber sheet), designed by the improvement of earthquake-resistant performance and ductility, attained more load-carrying capacity and stable hysteretic behavior.

  • An improved packer and injection system was developed to improve the efficiency of excavation by hydraulic rock splitting by reducing vibration and noise. Field testing of the system found hydraulic fractures limited in expansion and extension due to the loss of injection pressure by leackage from the cracks, and then the single packer applied to injection hole allowed to produce a sufficient tensile displacement for rock excavation. Numerical analysis based on the field test data could explain the development of cracks in the field experiments.
