MIMO Radio Channel Measurement and Analysis at 781MHz (781MHz 대역에서 MIMO 전파 채널 측정 및 분석)

  • In this paper, the measurement data is analyzed and channel parameters are derived through MIMO Channel measurements at 781MHz considering outdoor multi-path environment. 781MHz frequency band currently operates the DTV system. However, it will be allocated new mobile communication frequency band. The channel characteristics at 781MHz seem to be similar existing mobile communication system at 900MHz but a study on channel characteristics of signal transfer process is necessary because there is incomplete study in mobile networks at 781MHz. To avoid interference with Korean DTV broadcasting, we measured channel characteristics in city/suburban areas of Jeju island by channel sounder and $4{\times}4$ antenna of the ETRI(Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute). Path Loss, Delay Spread, Angular Spread and K-factor were derived based on measured data.

An experimental study on the improving noise characteristic of hydraulic power unit (유압동력 발생장치의 소음특성 개선을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • Nowadays, the hydraulic power unit (HPU) has been increased its working pressure and enlarged its capacity in order to improve the performance of the hydraulic system, but it produces noise leveled around 110dB(A) during operation. Recently, due to the reinforcement of industrial safety regulations and the requirement of improving work environment, a separated HPU room is installed at outside or underground of the building as to reduce the noise from HPU, but there are also problems of power loss owing its fluid friction of pipe system and of deficient accessibility during its failure accident. In this study, experiment is performed to improve the noise characteristics with installing a soundproof chamber to minimize the power loss and exclude effectively the high leveled noise, which is generated during the power conversion of HPU.

The Effect of Relative Humidity in the Mounting Time on the Reelability Ratio, Bave Length, and Percentage of Raw Silk (상족기 습도가 해서율, 견사장 및 생사량비율에 미치는 영향)

  • The experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of humidity on the cocoon quality, and 4, 000 lots of cocoon pruduced fot five years in Chin yang, Ha dong, Keo chang, San chung of Kyeong nam, and Sun san, Sang ju, Young poong, An dong of Kyeong buk were analyzed. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The reelability ration, the bave length, and raw silk ration were decreased with increasing the humidity in mounting time, and it was remarkably observed when the relative humidity was over 80%. 2. With increasing the reelability ration, the bave length, and raw silk ration were increased, and the longer the bave lenger the bave length was the higher raw silk ration obtained. 3. The average reelability ration for five years in autumn-rearing period was higher than that in spring-rearing period, but the bave length and raw silk ratio was on the contrary from the above. 4. The reelability ration of cocoon produced in the mountainous area was higher than that in the field area but the shorter the bave length, the raw silk ration had no significant difference between those.

An Autonomous Downlink Power Adjustment Method of Femtocell for Coverage Optimization in Next Generation Heterogeneous Networks (차세대 이종망에서 커버리지 최적화를 위한 자율적 펨토셀 전송 전력 조절 기법 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a self-optimization scheme for indoor femtocell coverage in heterogeneous networks. If the femtocell coverage is larger than indoor area, neighbor cell users passing by the outer area of the femtocell coverage may request an unnecessary handover which incurs wasteful signaling overhead. On the other hand, if the coverage is smaller than the indoor area, some of indoor users might not be connected to the indoor femtocell. Therefore, we propose the method by which the femtocell coverage attains the exact indoor area employing self-organized scheme. Autonomous self TX power adjustment of the femtocell is possible because the proposed method utilizes handover request events and membership information of users that can be obtained by the femtocell itself. We show that the TX power obtained by the proposed algorithm converges to the optimal TX power that can be obtained analytically to attain the indoor coverage area.

  • This paper presents and analyzes field test results of E-VSB(Enhanced-VSB) system proposed by Zenith/ATl and adopted ATSC standard. In the field test, according to types of antennas we measured reception possibility, noise margin, ease of reception to analyze performance improvement of E-VSB system at each outdoor/indoor test point. Also, we verify a backward compatibility between E-VSB and conventional 8-VSB system and check selection of test point, and configuration of transmitter and test vehicle. By the field test results, E-VSB system did not only outperform over 8-VSB system at severe multipath environment such as indoor reception, but also verified backward compatibility with it.

  • Drone, which refers to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), industries are improving rapidly and exceeding existing level of remote controlled aircraft models. Also, they are applying automation and cloud network technology. Recently, the ability of drones can bring serious threats to public safety such as explosives and unmanned aircraft carrying hazardous materials. On the purpose of reducing these kinds of threats, it is necessary to detect these illegal drones, using acoustic feature extraction and classifying technology. In this paper, we introduce sound feature vector extraction method by harmonic feature extraction method (HLA). Feature vector extraction method based on HLA make it possible to distinguish drone sound, extracting features of sound data. In order to assess the performance of distinguishing sounds which exists in outdoor environment, we analyzed various sounds of things and real drones, and classified sounds of drone and others as simulation of each sound source.

  • As information communication technology developed we could monitor temperature, weather, indoor and outdoor status which we need to monitor using various sensors. Even further we could monitor our body such as Sa02 and serologic chemical tests easily at home or office. It is possible though interlocking the house medical instrument with the wireless public data network. Data from sensors can be transmitted to the distant control room and will be essentially applied through wireless public data network. In this study we measured various sensor data for the telemetry in one system. The sensing items are mainly focused on the static and dynamic behaviors of the bridge, building, instruments. The study suggests the transmit system model utilized by the wireless public data network. The suggestion in the study of telemetry system provides movement and preservation. And it will exam various condition in distance or at home.

Improvement of An Electronic Aid for the Blind using Ultrasonic and Acceleration Sensors (초음파 및 가속도 센서를 이용한 시각장애인용 보행보조 장치의 성능 개선)

  • This paper introduces an electronic travel aid, named SmartWand, which detects obstacles using a ultrasonic sensor. In addition to obstacle detection, the SmartWand senses color information of objects and the environmental brightness. It is designed to be attached to a ordinary white cane in order to detect the obstacles at head-hight which cannot be covered by the cane. We have improved the first version of the SmartWand based on a user evaluation. The second version is much lighter and smaller than the previous one. It has been enhanced by two new functions. The SmartWand eliminates impact errors due to tapping the ground using a moving average filtering algorithm and restricts the detection range to the path in the moving direction using an acceleration sensor. We have tested these functions in various environments to determine the parameters for these functions.

A Geocoding Method on Character Matching in Indoor Spaces (실내 공간에서의 문자매칭 기반 지오코딩 기법)

  • Recently, the use of locational information is growing rapidly. GPS technology has been adopted generally for obtaining locational information in outdoor spaces. In the other hand, the researches on indoor positioning have been carried out applying WLAN, RFID or Bluetooth technology because of the multi-path interference of GPS signal caused by the physical obstacles such as walls or columns in buildings. However, such technologies for indoor positioning cost too much to build sensing infrastructure and compute-intensive processes are involved. Furthermore, the accuracy of location estimation is variable caused by interior structures in buildings. In this study, to make up for the limitations, descriptive data such as phone number, unique room numbers, or business names readily available in mixed-use buildings is used for extracting location information. Furthermore, during the process, a geocoding method using character matching is applied to this study enabling prompt location estimation and sublating the fluctuation of accuracy caused by interior structures. Based on the proposed method in this study, an architecture is designed, and three-dimensional viewer program is developed for the implementation of this study. Also, this research is quantitatively analyzed through match rate and processing time of proposed method.

  • In this paper, Gaussian probability distribution model based multi-sensor data fusion algorithm is proposed for a vehicular location awareness system. Conventional vehicular location awareness systems are operated by GPS (Global Positioning System). However, the conventional system is not working in the indoor of building or urban area where the receiver is difficult to receive the signal from satellites. A method which is combined GPS and UWB (Ultra Wide-Band) has developed to improve this problem. However, vehicular is difficult to receive seamless location information since the measurement systems by both GPS and UWB convert the vehicle's movement information separately at each sensor. In this paper, normalized probability distribution model based Hybrid UWB/GPS is proposed by utilizing GPS location data and UWB sensor data. Therefore the proposed system provides information with seamless and location flexible properties. The proposed system tested by Ubisense and Asen GPS in the $12m{\times}8m$ outdoor environments. As a result, the proposed system has improved performance for accurateness and connection ability between devices to support various CNS (Car Navigation System).
