Most bridge piers were practically designed and constructed with lap spliced longitudinal reinforcing steels before the 1992 seismic design provisions of Korea Bridge Design Specification were implemented. It has been known that lap splice of longitudinal reinforcement in the plastic hinge region is not desirable for seismic performance of RC bridge piers. The objective of this research is to evaluate the seismic performance of existing circular reinforced concrete bridge piers by the Quasi-static test and to propose the need of seismic retrofit of existing bridge piers through the damage level. Test specimens were nonseismically designed with the aspect ratio 4.0 which could induce the flexural failure mode. It was confirmed from this experiment that significant reduction of seismic performance was observed for test specimens with lap spliced longitudinal reinforcing steels. Pertinent seismic retrofit was determined to be needed for existing RC bridge piers with the lap-spliced of $50\%$ longitudinal reinforcing steels.

The purpose of this research is to investigate the flexure-shear behavior of bridge columns under seismic loads. Four full scale circular reinforced concrete columns were tested under cyclic lateral load with constant axial load. The selected test variables are aspect ratio(1.825, 2.5, 4.0), transverse steel configuration, and longitudinal steel ratio. Volumetric ratio of transverse hoop of all the columns is 0.0023 in the plastic hinge region. It corresponds to $24\%$ of the minimum requirement of confining steel by Korean Bridge Design Specifications, which represent existing columns not designed by the current seismic design specifications or designed by limited ductility concept. The columns showed flexural failure or flexure-shear failure depending on the test variables. Failure behavior and seismic performance are investigated and discussed in this paper.

This paper reports a new beam-to-column connection that is suitable for use in the weak axis of a column. The proposed system mainly uses bolts, and it minimizes the use of welding, which is generally difficult to perform onsite. In this system, a H-shape steel beam is joined to a H-shape steel column by bolted splices at the top flange and without a scallop at the web. The structural performance of the proposed connection was verified through full-scale tests of nine specimens, taking into account the effects of the geometry and arrangement of the plate.
This paper presents a series of tests to produce the h~gh quality concrete to be filled Inside the
steel tube columns. Thls concrete filled steel tube system requires not only the high strength,
but a150 the flowable concrete. Laboratory test has been performed to clarlfy the material
characteristics and to produce the optlmal mix design proportion. Full scale site mock up test
has been then carried out to slnlulate the actual construct~on conditions including the product~on
of concrete at the rermcon batch plant, transportation to the construction site, proper workabil~
ty and man power required , 4ddit1onal mock up test has finally been performec to irivesti
gate any unfavorable construction s~tuatioils since the actual concrete placement has been sched
uled in cold weather period, so that the high quality concrete construction is convinced to be
successfully carried out.

Due to stagnation of domestic market, increasing number of domestic construction companies started to make inroads into foreign market recently. Yet compared to domestic market, there are much more risks in the foreign market which companies may confront. So deliberate and rational decision making skills are required. Accordingly, there has been many researches which analyzed the risk of individual markets and also studies covering decision support models. In this study, we suggest a model concerning financial issues when branching out into a new market, specially in the construction companies' point of view. For this we used a real options game which shows real competition status of a new market and deduced a feature of that market, Upon these results, we also suggest a model which helps firms to decide whether investing in the expansion is smart action or not. The model developed in this study is made in specific circumstances of limited conditions. The future study makes more realistic models considering subjects like disproportion in information and generalization of competing companies.

Many electric poles in the softground have been collapsed due to external load such as typhoon wind load. In this study, the location, numbers and depths of acnchor blocks as well as depth of poles were varied to find horizontal displacement of poles through pull-out tests. The 10 types of tests were performed, and lateral displacements showed differences depending on location, numbers and depth of poles. The bending is generated in the upper part at the initial load, but it moved to central part as load increased. The maximum horizontal displacement decreased to 1/1.6 at -0.5[m] depth of anchor block and 1.3[m] additional laying depth of poles into ground. Two anchor blocks of poles are better than one acnchor block system, but one anchor block system is recommended because difference of displacement is not too large, and constructibilty is bad due to increase of excavation for anchor blocks.
A practical methodology to detect and localm da~nagc in rcinforced concrete structures by
utilizing modal response parameters of as built and tiamaged states is presented. First, a damage
detection algorithm which yields information on the, location of damage directly from changes in
mode shapes of structures is outlined. Next, the algorithm is implemented to detec and localize
damage in a real, 1 1/3 scale, reinforced concrete structure. A set of pre-damage and post damage modal parameters are used for I he damage detection exercise. The results of the damage prediction show that the proposed algorithm can correctly locate the damage inflicted in the test structure.

This paper describes the design and analysis technology of composite flexure and composite paddle-type blade which are all key technologies on hingeless rotor system. Through replacing the existing metal or engineering plastic flexure part with composite part, Several required structural analysis were accomplished, which are static analysis by using NASTRAN and dynamic analysis by using FLIGHTLAB. The dynamic characteristics of composite hingeless hub attached with paddle-type blade was also investigated. Further more, small-scaled paddle-type blade was designed using froude scaled properties of existing full size blade. Through this design procedure of composite paddle-type blade, the structural design method was achieved. These results will be applied to accomplishing current project named as "the development of next-generation helicopter rotor system."

Prototype crushed-stone compaction pile(${\Phi}=700mm$) were constructed on specific test site. Static loading tests for crushed-stone compaction piles were performed. Based on the static loading test results, finite element analysis was performed using software PENTAGON 3D. Numerical analysis were done for the area replacement ratio($a_s$) of $20{\sim}70%$ and $a_s$ was varied as a step of 10%. In the single crushed-stone compaction pile, settlement was decreased as $a_s$ was increased. In the group pile, this tendency was similar. In the in-sit test and numerical analysis, as $a_s$ increased, the stress concentration ratio was increased. But $a_s$ in the numerical analysis were more than that of in-situ test, greatly.
