Study on the measurement of the cylinder lengths of an underwater robot for harbour construction using a pressure sensor (압력센서를 이용한 수중항만공사 로봇의 실린더 길이 측정에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents an observer to measure the lengths of cylinders of an underwater robot for harbour construction using a pressure sensor. In harbour constructing, we place heavy armour stones weighing over 2~3 tons on the surface of the bank to protect it from storming wave. This work typically done by a diver is difficult and dangerous so that we have developed Stone Diver which is the underwater robot for harbour construction. The robot needs a position sensor to control the hydraulic cylinder. The position sensors mounted outside the cylinders cause poor durability in construction site where shock and dust usually occur. However, the pressure sensor mounted inside a waterproof box improves the durability. Based on the dynamic parameters and the pressures in the cylinder, the observer measures the cylinder's position. This paper presents the positional accuracy of the pressure based observer and the performance of the underwater robot to assemble the armour stones.

  • The purpose in having a control rod on a buoy system is to control the motion of it. The system may be composed entirely of a single circular cylinder and a long mooring anchor cable. A control rod has one function to perform in meeting its purpose, and that is to develop a control force in consequence of its orientation and movement relative to the water. The forces and moments generated as a result of the effects of mutual interference. then determine the stability characteristics of the body. In this paper, the study of control-rod-attached buoy's 2-dimensional section was accomplished. model tests and numerical simulations had been carried out with different diameters of control rods. and varying the Reynolds number $Re=5,000{\sim}25,000$ based on the cylinder diameter(D=50mm) to predict the performance of the body and the 2 frame particle tracking method Iud been used to obtain the velocity distribution in the flow field. 50mm circular cylinder Iud been used during the whole experiments and measured results had been compared with each other.

  • This paper presents the results of investigation, the aim of which was to predict theoretically the processes of thermodynamic cycle of M-combustion chamber type diesel engine. The combustion characteristics in cylinder are evaluated from the energy equation for an thermodynamic system in engine cylinder. In order to predict the combustion pressure in cylinder, the engine is divided in various control volumes. The simulation results of combustion characteristics show that the comparison of computed and measured values brings about the good coincidence.

  • 수중 식생, 해양 구조물과 같은 복합 구조에 대하여 본 연구에서는 각각의 구조물을 원형 실린더로 가정하고, 구조물 다발 하나를 원형 실린더 패치로 가정하였다. 패치들의 배열을 계산할시 기존의 방법으로는 많은 격자가 필요하기 때문에 좀 더 효율적으로 외력의 특성을 파악할 방법을 살펴보았다. 계산 영역 내에서 평균화된 정보들을 통해서 이용하여 항력계수와 양력계수와 속도, 압력의 관계를 알아내는 모델링 방법을 해보았다.

  • Both structural analysis and hydraulic test have been conducted to confirm the burst characteristics of filament wound solid motor case. Failure criteria have been defined with bursting above 150% of MEOP and failure in the cylinder. The results of analysis showed that filament fiber in the cylinder should be broken at about 2088psig. From a hydraulic test the same failure mode and the level of 2200psig of burst pressure have been proved. With these results, it is verified that a filament wound case meets burst requirements.

  • In this paper, an experiment was carried out to measure the hydrodynamic oil pressure distribution in the clearance gap between a piston and cylinder. The results showed that the pressure distributions are highly affected by the eccentricity of the piston. Therefore present experimental method can be used to enhance the performance of hydraulic piston pumps. Further experimental studies for various operating conditions and improvement in data acquisition methods are required to obtain more accurate results.

  • In this paper, the hydraulic oil pressure distributions are measured in the clearance gap between a stationary piston and moving cylinder apparatus. The results showed that the hydrodynamic pressure distributions are highly affected by the speed of cylinder and further experimental and analytical studies are required to obtain more accurate results. Therefore present experimental method can be used to enhance the performance of various hydraulic components adopting the piston-cylinder mechanism.

  • The characteristic of volumetric efficiency considering gas exchange process in a reciprocating engine is presented in this paper. The characteristic method is used for solving gas exchange problems of engine system in theoretical studies. The validity of the simulation is investigated by a comparison with the results obtained by the experiment which have been performed on the practical 4-cycle, 4-cylinder gasoline engine. The relationship between the volumetric efficiency and the intake pressure variation according to configuration of intake pipe, position of branch point, valve timing, compression ratio is clarified through simulation and experiment. The results predicted by the simulation are found to be in approximate agreement with those obtained by the experiment.

  • The torque is an important measure that represents the performance of a particular engine. Furthermore the information of engine torque can be used as a primary feedback parameter in modem engine management system. In this paper, a methodology is proposed for torque estimation of SI-engine. Since the proposed method uses cylinder pressure sensor, the torque can be estimated in a simple manner. The indicated torque is estimated from the peak pressure and its location, and the load torque is observed by the state observer based on the estimated indicated torque. The proposed method is accurate and robust against the variations that affect the torque production such as spark timing, mass air flow and others. This torque estimation method may be an alternative solution to the use of engine torque maps in a modem torque-based engine management system.
