A Study on System Stress Analysis of High Temperature Plant Piping with Expansion Joints and Load Hangers (신축이음과 하중행거가 함께 설치된 고온플랜트 배관계의 시스템응력 해석 연구)

  • In the plants operated under high temperature condition, piping system load analysis is often performed to prevent accidents caused by thermal deformation and also to locate inspection prioritity points of the piping system. In this study, piping system stress analysis was performed for a pipe system between the reactors in a process plant. The piping system includes typically installed hangers and expansion joints. In order to evaluate the effects of structural components such as hangers and expansion joints, the case for the expansion joint or the hanger under abnormal operation is considered. By comparison anlaysis results of piping system during normal operation and abnormal operation, the role of each pipe components are studied.

Zoom Motion Estimation Method Using Variable Block-Size (가변 블록크기의 신축 움직임 추정 방법)

  • It is possible to improve the accuracy of the motion estimation for a video by applying a variable block size. However, it has limits in the zoom motion estimation. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the zoom motion with variable block size. The proposed method separates the background within the object picture by depth information obtained from a depth camera, and only the object regions are applied to zoom scale, but the background is not applied. In addition, the object regions select efficiently variable block size mode in consideration of the generated motion vectors and the accuracy of motion estimation at the same time. Simulation results show the accuracy of the motion estimation and the number of motion vectors for the proposed method. It is verified that the proposed method can reduce the number of motion while maintaining the similar accuracy of motion estimation than the conventional motion estimation methods.

Stretchable Deformation-Resistance Characteristics of the Stiffness-Gradient Stretchable Electronic Packages Based on PDMS (PDMS 기반 강성도 경사형 신축 전자패키지의 신축변형-저항 특성)

  • Stiffness-gradient stretchable electronic packages of the soft PDMS/hard PDMS/PTFE structure were processed using the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as the base substrate and the more stiff polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as the island substrate, and their stretchable deformation-resistance characteristics were characterized. The flip-chip joints, formed by bonding the chip bumps of 50 ㎛-diameter onto the PDMS/PTFE substrate pads, exhibited an average contact resistance of 96 mΩ. When the stretchable package of the soft PDMS/hard PDMS/PTFE structure was deformed to 30% elongation, the strain on the PTFE was restrained to 1%, resulting in a negligible resistance increase of 1% in the daisy-chain circuit formed on the PTFE island substrate. The circuit resistance increased for 1.7% after 2,500 cycles of 0~30% stretchable deformation.

  • Graphene flakes are generally mass-produced by converting graphene oxide into reduced graphene oxide using chemical or thermal reduction. These graphene flakes can be stacked to form a free-standing graphene paper, which can be used for various applications. However, a graphene paper lacks stretchability, which hinders its application in stretchable devices. In this work, we introduced wrinkles in a graphene paper to make it stretchable. A graphene paper fabricated by vacuum-filtering a graphene dispersion was placed on a pre-stretched adhesive film. When the pre-stretched adhesive film returned to the original state, the graphene paper was wrinkled. The effect of the pre-stretching and wet condition of the graphene papers was experimentally investigated by using scanning electron microscopy. In addition, we observed the change of the period of the wrinkles in the graphene paper depending on the pre-stretching.

A Study on Evaluation Method of Cable Tension for Railway Steel Composite Bridge (강철도 복합교량 케이블의 장력 평가기법에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the empirical formula for evaluating cable tension based on long-term measurement for about 3 years according to temperature change was proposed by proving the correlation between the expansion joint displacement of the upper road bridge and the cable tension of the lower railway bridge. The tension prediction results using the empirical formula for tension evaluation each cables proposed in this study were found to be in good agreement with the cable tension using the vibration method within 3%. Therefore, it was analyzed that it could be applied together with the vibration method that was an experimental technique, to predict and evaluate the cable tension in serviced railway steel composite bridge. As a result of applying the estimated temperature calculated by the empirical formula for expansion proposed in this study to the empirical formula, it was analyzed that a high level of reliability could be secured when compared with the vibration method. Therefore, it is judged that the empirical formula for cable tension evaluation reflecting the estimated temperature proposed in this study can be used to predict the tension of cables according to climate change in the future and establish a maintenance plan.

Experimental Study on the Seismic Behavior Simulation of Modular Expansion Joint (모듈러 신축이음장치 지진거동 모사 실험적 연구)

  • In order to evaluate the seismic performance of the modular expansion joint known for its large expansion allowance and remarkable durability, this study conducts seismic response analysis and seismic simulation test. The bridge selected for the seismic response analysis is a cable stayed bridge with main span length of 1,000m. Three artificial earthquake were generated with respect to the design response spectra of the Korean Standards (KS), AASHTO LRFD and Eurocode, and applied to the selected bridge. The seismic simulation tests reproduced the artificial earthquakes using dynamic hydraulic actuators in the longitudinal and transverse directions. The test results verified the durability and safety of the expansion joint in view of its seismic behavior since abnormal behavior or failure of the expansion joint was not observed when the artificial earthquake waves were applied in the longitudinal direction, transverse direction and both directions.

Evaluation of Fatigue Endurance on Expansion Joint Manufactured Fe-Mn Damping Alloy (Fe-Mn 제진 금속을 적용한 신축이음장치의 피로 내구성 평가)

  • The endurance of expansion joint manufactured the Fe-Mn damping alloy reducing noise and vibration is analyzed into FEM (Finite Element Method) and fatigue test. The fatigue test have been performed using the expansion joint manufactured Fe-Mn damping alloy and the hydraulic actuator (25tonf). And the results of fatigue test show that the maximum strength is 237.6 MPa. Also that is 56.6 percent of Fe-Mn damping alloy yield strength (420 MPa). The loading plate size is prepared $57.7cm{\times}23.1cm$ and the loading plate's set position is located on expansion joint. The expansion joint manufactured the Fe-Mn damping alloy had not presented breaking behavior against 2,000,000 times fatigue test and identified the fatigue endurance.

  • The structural safety of expansion joints for piping systems has been drawing attention owing to ruptures and leaks of water pipes caused by earthquakes and road subsidence at soft ground. In general, metal bellows are installed as expansion joints to prevent various damages in the piping system. In this study, the seismic performance of a valve chamber system was evaluated by performing earthquake shaking table tests. To validate the benefits to structural safety of metal bellows in connecting steel pipes to valve chambers, the seismic tests were conducted on expansion joints (bellows) and general pipping, and the results were compared for durability. Strain gauges were attached to measure the effects of the input motion. As a result of the shaking table test, it was confirmed that the strain of the valve chamber structure and inflow or outflow steel pipes were decreased in 1/100, 1/20 by applied to the expansion joints.
