  • This descriptive study looks into the levels of BMI, dietary habits, body image, and eating attitudes which have a major impact on the obesity management of female college students. A total of 173 female college students from the same school participated in this study by filling out a self-administered questionnaire investigating actual conditions. The average age of the participants was 19.5 years old and the average BMI was $21.8kg/m^2$. There were statistically significant differences in dietary habit at home (t=2.957, p=.004), eating attitudes BMI (F=5.324, p=.006), actual body image within perceived body esteem and BMI (F=36.979, p=.000), level of state body esteem BMI (F=11.539, p=.000), level of eating attitudes BMI(F=5.324, p=.006). Among the relationships between variables, the higher the BMI, the higher the score for perceived body esteem and problems concerning eating attitudes became prevalent. The higher the actual body image score, the lower the state body esteem and problems concerning eating attitudes became prevalent. Therefore, there is a need for education that enhances positive body image and eating attitudes in order for female college students to manage obesity due to dietary habits.

Significant difference was found in body esteem score (F=26.389 p<.0001) and body figure discrepancy (F=64.167, p<.0001) according to BMI scores. There were negative correlations between body esteem and body figure discrepancy (r=-.582, p=.0001), between body esteem and depression (r=-.120, p=.028), between body esteem and BMI (r=-.422, p=.0001), and a positive correlation between body figure discrepancy and BMI (r=.630, p=.0001). Factors such as body figure discrepancy, BMI and depression explained 36.7% of the valiance in students' body esteem. • This study was designed to find out the determinants of types of bullying behavior, and the effects of types of bullying behavior on the bullies. For this purpose, a hypothetical model which explains the relationships among 6 environmental factors, 5 types of bullying behavior, and 5 outcome variables for the bullies was developed. Using the data collected from 177 junior and high school students who have bullied the other students, the hypothetical model was tested. For data analysis, a path analysis was used, and the best-fitting model was found (df=78, GFI=0.953, CFI=1.00). As a result of analyzing the model, types of bullying behavior were found to be determined by the different environmental factors: Isolation was determined by 2 factors (feeling of isolation from friends, exposure to bullying), social bullying by 2 factors (lack of support from parents, exposure to bullying), verbal bullying by conflicts with parents, physical bullying by 3 factors (lack of support from parents, exposure to isolation and exposure to bullying), and instrumental bullying by lack of support from parents. On the other hand, the pleasure that the bullies feel after bullying behavior was increased by isolation, verbal bullying and physical bullying, while decreased by instrumental bullying. Guilt feeling was decreased by isolation and instrumental bullying, while increased by physical bullying. Isolation increased the tendency of blaming the victim. Isolation and instrumental bullying increased bullies' self-esteem, while social bullying decreased self-esteem. Verbal bullying increased the extent of bullying, while instrumental bullying decreased the extent of bullying. Based on the findings, the intervention strategies to change the bullies' attitudes toward victim, and to increase social support from the significant others as well as the effective ways to reorganize the school environment in order to reduce and prevent bullying behavior were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the self-respect moderating effect on adolescents with emotional problems because of neglect and abusive experiences. The results are as follows: First, the level of abusive experiences was higher than that of neglect in adolescents. General characteristics including genders and individual family situations were found to be the influences causing emotional problems in adolescents. Second, adolescents with high levels of neglect and abuse experienced high levels of depression, social anxiety, aggression and physical symptoms. Third, even though self-respect did not have a strong moderating effect on the emotional problems of adolescents who suffered neglect and abuse, there was a difference between the abuse experience and the emotional problem in the inclination test results for the high and low group based on the average of the self-respect of the respondents. The results of this study suggest that the need for a stronger variable to reduce the negative emotional state among adolescents experiencing neglect and abuse is related to emotional problems.
