  • This study aims to elucidate the origin and yield of life and its characteristics and purpose in Daesoon Thought. Thereby, Taegeuk (the Great Ultimate) and Sangje (the Supreme God) have been deemed the source and ontology of life. The structure of each living creature is explained through reason (理), energy (氣) and spirit (神). In addition, through vital reason and living energy, the purpose of life makes the realization of the benevolent characteristics of life possible through the mind of Sangje. This line of research is unique among currently available research views of life as it perceives the spirit to be an ontological entity with functions and interactive engagement. By way of contrast, prior research suggests that spirit is life itself and includes it in the category of life and death. The Daesoon view of life is unique in that it is somewhat influenced by ontology and developmental theories from Confucianism, yet the concept of divine beings suggests a humanistic Sangje, who presides over the Great Ultimate. The realization of reason in this model is rather thought-provoking. Humans, just like other living things, are born with vital essence and function and interact as a main source to preside over the innate spirits inside themselves. Humans take responsibility for a certain sphere in the Three Realms that make up the world. They are also recognized as a significant feature in the world. Such an idea in Daesoon Thought depicts that 'the enshrinement of spirit into human being (神封於人),' follows Heaven and Earth. This is done to rectify humans in order to meet the needs of the universe and ultimately establish the era of the enshrinement of spirits into human beings. As for humanity, this possibility exists because of the spirits contained within their inner-selves. When cultivating oneself, humans and outer spirits actively interact with each other. This is likely to cause changes in a human's constitution and characteristics. In the end, one can be enshrined with corresponding divine beings according to one's degree of cultivation. Humans are born through the command of Sangje and the accomplishments of their ancestors as well as the energy of the universe. Present day humans encounter the era of human nobility and the era of humankind's divine salvation. Thereby, the purpose of human life is to contribute to the universe. To achieve this goal, the most important thing is to wholly realize that one's nature and reason were endowed by Heaven, which emerged from virtuous conduct in society. This is also akin to the movement of reason in Jeungsanist Thought. Sangsaeng (mutual beneficence) among oneself and others and between human beings and divine beings can be completed through the resolution of grievances for mutual beneficence and the grateful reciprocation of favors for mutual beneficence. If one accomplishes the perfected state of one's own nature and reveals it wholly, then one will be fully able to interact with spirits and reach the state of the human nobility.

Yeongdae from the Perspective of Material Religion: Transcending the Material and Non-material Yeongdae (물질종교 관점에서 본 영대 -물질 영대와 비물질 영대 가로지르기-)

  • This article apprehends Yeongdae (靈臺), the most sacred shrine of Daesoon Jinrihoe which has earlier historical precedents, as an example of material religion. In East Asia, the first Yeongdae was a structure that King Wen of Zhou commissioned to be built. As the time passed by, the meaning of Yeongdae was changed to signify a mental yeongdae, the object and the aim of cultivation, and the notional mindset that appears in the Daoist meditation, Cunsi (存思, visualization). This implies that Yeongdae has signified both material and non-material objects. Throughout most of history, these two concepts had never been related to each other, but shifted in form and meaning depending on context. Daesoon Jinrihoe, which emerged in the modern era of Korea, used the concept of investiture of gods and combined the two into one. Accordingly, the Yeongdae, referred to by King Wen to indicate his shrine, was expressed as a spot wherein the gods were enshrined on the earth. As an innovation, Daesoon Jinrihoe argued that gods correspond to properly eligible human beings according to the degree of their cultivation and that sacred space was instead defined a spot within the human mind, a mental yeongdae, where the gods could be enshrined into humanity (神封於人). From the perspective of Lévi-Strauss, the factors that are discovered in the tradition of East Asia, namely, the Yeongdae of King Wen and the mental yeongdae of Zhuangzi can combined with consistency and established in the doctrinal system of Daesoon Jinrihoe. Such an attempt refers to bricolage which re-creates the traditional concepts of the past. In this regard, the concept of invented tradition coined by Eric Hobsbawm could also be used to conclude that the Yeongdae (the shrine of gods) of Daesoon Jinrihoe can be expressed as an invented Yeongdae, which transcends the existing categories of material yeongdae and non-material yeongdae.

  • In this paper, we present a novel semaphore implementation scheme which shortens finish time of high priority tasks and improves reliability of a system. The real-time systems have time constraints. Especially, the task with hard real-time constraints must meet its deadline. Consequently, managing shared resources is considered guaranteeing mutual exclusion as well as meeting task's deadline under unfavorable condition. According to the number and sort of the locked semaphores under the event occurred, this paper presents the reduction of the finish time of high priority task by decision whether the context switched or not. The experimental results show that the proposed method gives performance improvements in finish time of high priority tasks of about 11% over zuberi[4] method.

  • The relational data model is based on mathematical concept of relations and is well formulated, and so there have been numerous practical applications and studies. However, it is not suitable for representing a complex hierarchical structure, which is the characteristic of most geographical objects. On the other hand, the object-oriented data model can naturally represent a complex hierarchical structure, but there is a difficulty in sharing data with the relational data model which is currently used by most commercial GIS users. Also it has no standard query language with standardized format. In this paper, we propose an Object Grouping based on RDBMS to use data from a traditional relational data model while supporting various concepts of the object-oriented data model, and we applied this data model to design a GIS.

  • On April. 2016, the anadromous icy goby caught at Shinbong-cheon, Tongyeong shi, Gyeongsangnam-do transported to the laboratory of Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) and observed spawning behavior and egg development and larvae. In aquarium, males make the nest under stone and waiting female entering. Fertilized eggs attached under the stone in the nest. Male protected the fertilized eggs until hatching. The size of the club-shaped eggs were 3.2~3.4 mm in the major axis and 0.6~0.8 mm in minor axis (n=10). The eyed eggs were hatched after 168 hrs in a range of water temperatures (18.0~20.0℃). The total lengths of newly hatched larvae were 4.1~4.4 mm (n=5) and these larvae had 32~33 (12~13+20) myotomes and transparent oval yolk. Three days after hatching, the pre-larva (4.9 mm in total length) has opening mouth and rectum. Post-larva with 5.2 mm total length have melanophore on air bladder, rectum, base of membranous caudal fin and 9~10 melanophores ventral row on the tail.
