The purpose of this study was to identify the sizing problems for shoes, and provide improvement information for shoe industries in internet shopping mall. For this, the study was conducted through a survey with 611 young women consumers from late 10s to late 20s. In addition, we investigated the actual conditions of shoe size system from manufacturers and vendors of internet shopping mall. On the survey from consumers, it was revealed that the main reason which makes the consumers hesitate to purchase is the difference between the image or size shown by the monitor and the actual product. Also, the problem was substantiated through status of internet shoe vendors. Moreover, it was found that consumers rarely have the knowledge of the letter sizes for the foot girth at purchasing shoe. To overcome the problems of shoe size system in internet shopping industry, the new sizing system that both consumers and vendors can satisfy is needed immediately.

The purpose of this study Is to classify foot types of elderly women and young women and to suggest shoes size system by foot types for elderly women. The subjects were 321 elderly women and 181 young women. Their right feet were measured directly and indirectly by using scanner and digital camera. The anthropometric measurements were composed of 62 items. They were measured during the months of July and October in 2001 and November in 2002 The results and discussions of this study are as follows. First, in analyzing shape of the foot of elderly and young women, the shapes of foot were classified as N-type (high and narrow foot shape and wide toes), W-type (wider width for its length and severe alteration), L-type (low foot shape as oval). Second, the most characteristic foot type in elderly women was W-type. In this type, the width was wider for its length, the first metatarsophalangeal protrusion was severe and the toes were gathered at the center. On the other hand, young women belonged to N-type. Third, we suggested new size system of shoes for elderly women and the standard foot shape each type. The size system was based on foot length and foot types. Hopefully, understanding the shapes of foot and characteristics of each foot type will help to develop suitable shoes for elderly women.

For children with most outdoor activities, wearing appropriate shoes is important to their growth and health. The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics regarding children's feet and to provide beneficial information for an appropriate sizing system of children's shoes. The data of the study were 3D measurements of feet from school boys aged 7-12 of the 6th Anthropometry of Size Korea. This study revealed that the two factors related to the size and height of the feet represent the characteristics of children's feet, unlike adults. As a result of applying the data of this study to the current KS sizing system of the children's shoes, only the foot lengths were within the sizing system. Consequently, the current sizing system requires revisions and supplements to the foot-width and foot-circumference sections.

The purpose of this study was to determine the fundamental foot measurement data that is essential for a shoes size system of women in their 20~30s according to a survey of Korean hand-made shoes companies. This research on the current situation of shoes companies was done by interviewing and surveying employees of these companies. The subjects for this study were 407 women in their 20s~30s who lived in a metropolitan area, and who wanted to enhance their foot health and prevent injury with a proper shoes size system. They were measured with the 3D scan method in use of 6th Size Korea. The result of this study showed that there is considerable dissatisfaction related to women's shoes and the current foot size system using foot length. The Korean hand-made shoes companies assessed here did not use the KS system, but they recognized the necessity of measuring the foot width and circumference, understanding that doing so properly can decrease the return and repair rate. And current target age for shoes bye the hand-made shoes companies was reported to be approximately 5 years. There were significant results according to ANOVA, factor and cluster analyses according to the age range pertaining to the foot length, circumference and height. Each element was significantly correlated with user's satisfaction. There were 5 factors and 3 clusters represented, and foot circumstance and width were as important as foot length with a range of 5 years.
