Corrective thermal performance analysis is required for power plants' turbine cycles to determine the performance status of the cycle and improve the economic operation of the power plant. We developed a sectional classification method for the main feed-water flow to make precise corrections for the performance analysis based on the Performance Test Code (PTC) of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). The method was developed for the estimation of the turbine cycle performance in a classified section. The classification is based on feature identification of the correlation status of the main feed-water flow measurements. We also developed predictive algorithms for the corrected main feed-water through a Kernel Regression (KR) model for each classified feature area. The method was compared with estimation using an Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The feature classification and predictive model provided more practical and reliable methods for the corrective thermal performance analysis of a turbine cycle.
For the objective interpretation of cerebral metabolic patterns in epilepsy patients, we developed computer-aided classifier using artificial neural network. We studied interictal brain FDG PET scans of 257 epilepsy patients who were diagnosed as normal(n=64), L TLE (n=112), or R TLE (n=81) by visual interpretation. Automatically segmented volume of interest (VOI) was used to reliably extract the features representing patterns of cerebral metabolism. All images were spatially normalized to MNI standard PET template and smoothed with 16mm FWHM Gaussian kernel using SPM96. Mean count in cerebral region was normalized. The VOls for 34 cerebral regions were previously defined on the standard template and 17 different counts of mirrored regions to hemispheric midline were extracted from spatially normalized images. A three-layer feed-forward error back-propagation neural network classifier with 7 input nodes and 3 output nodes was used. The network was trained to interpret metabolic patterns and produce identical diagnoses with those of expert viewers. The performance of the neural network was optimized by testing with 5~40 nodes in hidden layer. Randomly selected 40 images from each group were used to train the network and the remainders were used to test the learned network. The optimized neural network gave a maximum agreement rate of 80.3% with expert viewers. It used 20 hidden nodes and was trained for 1508 epochs. Also, neural network gave agreement rates of 75~80% with 10 or 30 nodes in hidden layer. We conclude that artificial neural network performed as well as human experts and could be potentially useful as clinical decision support tool for the localization of epileptogenic zones.

The classification is based on feature identification of status of main water flow. Machine learning techniques using visual data have high usability in fields of industry and service such as scene recognition, fault detection, security and user analysis. Among these, user analysis through the videos from CCTV is one of the practical way of using vision data. Also, many studies about lightweight artificial neural network have been published to increase high usability for mobile and embedded environment so far. In this study, we propose the network combining the object detection and classification for mobile graphic processing unit. This network detects pedestrian and face, classifies age and gender from detected face. Proposed network is constructed based on MobileNet, YOLOv2 and skip connection. Both detection and classification models are trained individually and combined as 2-stage structure. Also, attention mechanism is used to improve detection and classification ability. Nvidia Jetson Nano is used to run and evaluate the proposed system.

The wide and growing use of cellular phones has raised the question about the possible health risks associated with radio-frequency electromagnetic fields. It would be helpful for phone users to blow the exposure levels during cellular phone use. But it is very difficult to recognize the amount of exposure, because measuring accurate level of RF is a difficult matter. In this study, we developed a model to estimate the exposure level and the individual risk of exposure by utilizing the available informations that we can get. We used such parameters as usage time a day, total using period, distance between cellular phone and head, slope of cellular phone, hands-free usage, antenna pulled out or not SAR(Specific Absorption Rate) of cellular phone, and flip or folder type. We proposed a model presenting individual risk of RF exposure from level 0 to 10 by using a neural network.

Memristor is a new kind of memory device whose resistance varies depending upon applied charge and whose previous resistance state is preserved even when its power is off. Ordinary memristor has a nonlinear programming characteristics about time when a constant voltage is applied. For the easiness of programming, it is desirable that resistance is programmed linearly about time. We had proposed previously a memristor bridge configuration with which weight can be programmed nicely in positive, negative or zero. In memristor bridge circuit, two memristors are connected in series with different polarity. Memristors are complementary each other and it follows that the memristance variation is linear with respect to time. In this paper, the linearization effect of weight programming of memristor bridge synapse is investigated and verified about both $TiO_2$ memristor from HP and a nonlinear memristor with a window function. Memristor bridge circuit would be helpful to conduct synaptic weight programming.

Most pattern classifiers have been designed based on the ML (Maximum Likelihood) training algorithm which is simple and relatively powerful. The ML training is an efficient algorithm to individually estimate the model parameters of each class under the assumption that all class models in a classifier are statistically independent. That assumption, however, is not valid in many real situations, which degrades the performance of the classifier. In this paper, we propose a minimum-error-rate training algorithm based on the MAP (Maximum a Posteriori) approach. The algorithm regards the normalized outputs of the classifier as estimates of the a posteriori probability, and tries to maximize those estimates. According to Bayes decision theory, the proposed algorithm satisfies the condition of minimum-error-rate classificatin. We apply this algorithm to NPM (Neural Prediction Model) for speech recognition, and derive new disrminative training algorithms. Experimental results on ten Korean digits recognition have shown the reduction of 37.5% of the number of recognition errors.

Aure's tonality was considered as the sound metrics for the expression of the tonality of gear whine sound in a previous research. It was failed to use the Aure's tonality as a sound metric for the tonal impression. Thus Aures's tonality, was developed for tonal impression in previous research. However, this metric did not express well the tonality of gear whine sound since the whine sound is a non-stationary signal with frequency modulation and amplitude modulation. In this study, the new method for the tonality evaluation for a non-stationary signal is presented. It is developed based on the prominence ratio, tonality impression function, and lower threshold level. It improves the accuracy and reliability of the sound quality index being used for the sound quality evaluation of the axle-gear whine sound.

In recent, sensors embedded in robots, equipment, and circuits have become common, and research for diagnosing device failures by learning measured sensor data is being actively conducted. This failure diagnosis study is divided into a classification model for predicting failure situations or types and a regression model for numerically predicting failure conditions. In the case of a classification model, it simply checks the presence or absence of a failure or defect (Class), whereas a regression model has a higher learning difficulty because it has to predict one value among countless numbers. So, the reason that regression modeling is more difficult is that there are many irregular situations in which it is difficult to determine one output from a similar input when predicting by matching input and output. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on input and output data with periodicity, analyze the input/output relationship, and secure regularity between input and output data by performing sliding window-based input data patterning. In order to apply the proposed method, in this study, current and temperature data with periodicity were collected from MMC(Modular Multilevel Converter) circuit system and learning was carried out using ANN. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that when a window of 2% or more of one cycle was applied, performance of 97% or more of fit could be secured.
Overhead line voltage of DC railway traction substations has rising or falling characteristics depending on the acceleration and regenerative braking of the subway train loads. The suppression of this irregular fluctuation of the line voltage gives rise to improved energy efficiency of both the railway substation and the trains. This paper presents parameter estimation schemes using the RC circuit model for an overhead line voltage at a 1500V DC electric railway traction substation. A linear artificial neural network with a back-propagation learning algorithm was trained using the measurement data for an overhead line voltage and four feeder currents. The least square estimation method was configured to implement batch processing of these measurement data. These estimation results have been presented and performance analysis has been achieved through raw data simulation.
