Making good predictions about the outcome of one's actions would seem to be essential in the context of social interaction and decision-making. This paper proposes a computational model for learning articulated motion patterns for action recognition, which mimics biological-inspired visual perception processing of human brain. Developed model of cortical architecture for the unsupervised learning of motion sequence, builds upon neurophysiological knowledge about the cortical sites such as IT, MT, STS and specific neuronal representation which contribute to articulated motion perception. Experiments show how the model automatically selects significant motion patterns as well as meaningful static snapshot categories from continuous video input. Such key poses correspond to articulated postures which are utilized in probing the trained network to impose implied motion perception from static views. We also present how sequence selective representations are learned in STS by fusing snapshot and motion input and how learned feedback connections enable making predictions about future input sequence. Network simulations demonstrate the computational capacity of the proposed model for motion recognition.
This study was aimed to produce a transgenic zebrafish expressing the human KCNE1 gene. Initially, the entire CDS of the human KCNE1 gene was amplified from a human genomic DNA sample by polymerase chain reaction using a primer set engineered with restriction enzyme sites (EcoRI, BamHI) at the 5' end of each primer. The resultant 402 bp KCNE1 amplicon flanked by EcoR1 and BamH1 was obtained and subsequently cloned into a plasmid vector pPB-CMVp-EF1-GreenPuro. The integrity of the cloned CDS sequence was confirmed by DNA sequencing analysis. Next, the recombinant vector containing the human KCNE1 (pPB-CMVp-hKCNE1-EF1-GreenPuro) was introduced into fertilized eggs of zebrafish by microinjection. Successful expression of the recombinant vector in the eggs was confirmed by the expression of the fluorescence protein encoded in the vector. Finally, in order to assure that the stable expression of the human KCNE1 gene occurred in the transgenic animal, RNAs were extracted from the animal and the presence of KCNE1 transcripts was confirmed by RT-PCT as well as DNA sequencing analysis. The study provides a methodology to construct a useful transgenic animal model applicable to the development of diagnostic technologies for gene therapy of LQTS (Long QT Syndrome) as well as tools for cloning of useful genes in fish.
The correlation between the bitter taste and the surface tension was found for bitter tasting, aqueous solutions. By the Szyszkowski's equation, the surface tension (STR) and taste curves (JND) were derived more clearly using the Techplot program. The specific capillary activity (log b values) for bitter tasting solutions are negatively correlated to the recognition threshold. It was shown that a more bitter substances has greater capillary activity. The correlation between the recognition threshold $(log\;C_{1})$ and the substance specific constant (a and b values) of sensory (JND) and surface tension values indicates good agreement. This means that the model of surface area adsorption in the solution/air system can apply also for the sensory model microvillus membrane in the mouth.
This paper describes an informatlon compression of electrically evoked myoelectric signal, M-wave. This wave shows a direct response m lato-response of nerve conductlQn study and has a characteristic with finite time support. M-wave is a useful factor for investing neurodi~ease and is often desirable to have a compact description of its shape and time evolution. The aim of this paper is to show that the AR modeling IS a effective method for compressing an information of M-wave. First, AR model parameters of real M-wave are estimated. And then. they are verified by approximatmg a M-wave using estimated AR parameters and by comparing to other melhod, Hermite tlansform[4]. To concretely evaluate the proposed method, the NMSE(normalized mean square error) of approximation curves are compared. As a result, AR modeling is effective for M-wave assessment because of its capability for the information compression.

Background: Somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) is valuable for the evaluation of the central pathway. However, peripheral neuropathy sometimes renders the test useless by preventing the conduction from reaching the CNS. We postulated that the peripheral conduction problems could be overcome by proximal stimulation in SSEP and wanted to verify this in the study. Methods: Twenty patients with diabetic sensorimotor polyneuropathy were included. SSEP was elicited by stimulating the median and posterior tibial nerves. We compared the effect of distal and proximal stimulations in each SSEP in the aspect of presence/absence and various latencies of resultant waves. Results: Among the 40 cases, proximal stimulation caused reappearance of subsided waves in 10 cases (25%). In the median nerve SSEP, proximal stimulation made EN1 and CN2 visible which were not evident when distally stimulated. In the posterior tibial nerve SSEP, there was also improvement of forming waves when proximally stimulated. Conclusions: In the diabetic polyneuropathy, proximal stimulation of SSEP is more effective than the conventional distal stimulation in evaluating central pathway.

In this paper, we propose a rule extraction method using a modified Fuzzy Min-Max (FMM) neural network. The suggested method supplements the hyperbox definition with a frequency factor of feature values in the learning data set. We have defined a relevance factor between features and pattern classes. The proposed model can solve the ambiguity problem without using the overlapping test process and the contraction process. The hyperbox membership function based on the fuzzy partitions is defined for each dimension of a pattern class. The weight values are trained by the feature range and the frequency of feature values. The excitatory features and the inhibitory features can be classified by the proposed method and they can be used for the rule generation process. From the experiments of sign language recognition, the proposed method is evaluated empirically.
Behavioral studies of emotion recognition in autism spectrum disorders (ASD) have yielded mixed results. Most of the studies focused on emotion recognition abilities with regard to ASD using stimuli with unisensory modality, making it difficult to determine difficulties in real life emotion perception in ASD. Herein, we review the recent behavioral and cognitive neuroscience studies on emotion recognition functions in ASD, including both unisensory and multisensory emotional information, to elucidate the possible difficulties in emotion recognition in ASD. In our study, we discovered that people with ASD have problems in the process of integrating emotional information during emotion recognition tasks. The following four points are discussed: (1) The restrictions of previous studies, (2) deficits in emotion recognition in ASD especially in recognizing multisensory information, (3) possible compensation mechanisms for emotion recognition in ASD, and (4) the possible roles of attention and language functions in emotion recognition in ASD. The compensatory mechanisms proposed herein for ASD with regard to emotion recognition abilities could contribute to a therapeutic approach for improving emotion recognition functions in ASD.

To control the LED lighting for broadcasting, LED current control using tri-stimulus values is used for RGB LEDs. For the convenience of control, this control is approximated as a linear function or used as an appropriate value through trial and error. Also, it is not suitable for broadcast lighting because it does not use a diffuser plate applied for mixing sufficient light and color required for actual it. In this study, a neural network with excellent nonlinear function approximation is used as a control method for LED panels for broadcast lighting. We intend to implement an LED panels controller suitable for the desired chromaticity coordinates and dimming values of intensity. As a result of the performance evaluation, the errors of the xy chromaticity coordinates are mostly ±0.02 and the acceptable range of ANSI C78.377A was satisfied. The average errors of the xy chromaticity coordinate are xerror=0.0044 and yerror=0.0030, respectively, and we confirmed the superiority and stable performance of the proposed algorithm.
In this paper, we propose a method for combining convolutional neural networks and attention mechanism to improve the recognition performance of emotional stress from Electroencephalogram (EGG) signals. In the proposed method, EEG signals are decomposed into five frequency domains, and spatial information of EEG features is obtained by applying a convolutional neural network layer to each frequency domain. As a next step, salient frequency information is learned in each frequency band using a gate transformer-based attention mechanism, and complementary frequency information is further learned through inter-frequency mapping to reflect it in the final attention representation. Through an EEG stress recognition experiment involving a DEAP dataset and six subjects, we show that the proposed method is effective in improving EEG-based stress recognition performance compared to the existing methods.
