  • Forest fire is one of the main factor disturbing the environment of forest, and it influences greatly the structure and function on forest. The process of vegetation recovery could be decided according to the extent of the damage. It is required a lot of man powers and budgets to understand born severity and process of vegetation rehabilitation at the damaged area after large-fire. However, the analysis of born severity in the forest area using satellite imagery can acquire rapidly information and more objective results remotely in the large-fire area. In this study, the space sensors have been used to map area burned, assess characteristics of active fires. For classifying fire damaged area and analyzing severity of Cheongyang-Yesan fire in 2002, in this paper we use pre- and post-fire imagery from the Landsat TM and ETM+ to compute the evaluate large-scale patterns of burn severity, use the digital stock map to calculate the damaged condition about the forest fires damaged regions and use the NDVI to monitoring the situation of the revegetation.

  • Damyang riverine wetland was designated as a wetland protected area in 2004; that is located in the Yeongsan river mainstream. Total 30 phytosociological releves at field studies were classified with 22 vegetation types including of 101 species (unidentified 1 species). Legends of actual vegetation map were separated by 6 types; riparian forest, substitute vegetation, synanthropic vegetation, wet meadow vegetation, open water, an area of wetland vegetation is about 35 % ($386,841.86m^2$). Results of this study area as follows. The plant society of Damyang riverine wetland was conjectured that it was formed by rapidly water environment change with installed weir on the upstream of protected area and operating of Damyang dam on top of the basin. Until recently, the terrace land on the river was used to cultivate, but that would be formed fallow vegetation scenery on riverfront caused by no cultivation after designated protected area. Paspalum distichum var. indutum community designated as invasive alien plant by Korea Ministry of Environment was widely developed and Myriophyllum spicatumunrecorded in the country as newly alien species was discovered in the study zone. The plants as lapped over developing environment for Leersia japonica must be occupied habitat of native plant species having similar niche. The various plant society in Damyang riverine wetland should be developed because of environmental changes, disturbances and damages of stream.

  • This study is examined river naturality and vegetative composition of river riparian zones to identify their most important sources of variation. Information on plant species cover and on physical characteristics that occur at upper, medium, and low areas was collected for 30 riparian plots located throughout the Youngjeong River in Korea. The riparian areas of river banks are dominated by mixed sediment and the vegetation is composed of herbs, shrub, and trees. The floristic characterization of riparian at this river during 2015 season was identified with a total of 28 families, 72 genera, 75 species, 13 varieties, 23 associations. The vegetations of low water's edge and flood way at upper region were naturally formed various vegetation communities by natural erosion. Forty plant species were identified around the upper region, where the dominant growth form was mostly trees. The flood way vegetation at middle region was both of natural vegetation and artificial vegetation. Land uses in riparian zones river levee at low region were bush or grassland as natural floodplain. The values of cover-abundance at upper, middle, and low region were total 9.26, 7.24, and 7.56, respectively. Grasses and forbs at the Youngjeong River have similar cover-abundance values. Recent, many riparian areas of this river have been lost or degraded for commercial and industrial developments. Thus, monitoring for biological diversity of plant species of this river is necessary for an adaptive management approach and the successful implementation of ecosystem management.

  • This study was carried out to compare stand structure in Bihwajin basin Samcheok-si, Gangwon-do, Korea for ten years between 2003 and 2014, in which occurred the east coastal forest fire in 2000. Data were collected from 32 quadrates that followed by the analysis of vegetation classification according to plant sociology, importance value by Mclntosh and Curtise, species diversity and similarity index. In the result of vegetation classification, the vegetation unit decreased from 7 units to 4 units, and the number of species groups changed from 11 to 7. As a result of importance value (IV) changes, IV of Quercus mongolica, Q. serrata and Q. variabilis was increased by 6.8%, 5.2% and 2.9% in the order, respectively. However, that of Pinus densiflora was decreased by 2.8%. That of major planted species such as Castanea crenata, Chionanthus retusa, Prunus armeniaca var. ansu, Acer triflorum and Koelreuteria paniculata was reduced. As a result of species diversity, it was increased from 0.252 to 0.287 in tree layer, from 0.252 to 0.434 in subtree layer, and from 1.293 to 1.333 in shrub layer. But that in herb layer was decreased from 1.745 to 1.646. As a result of similarity index, it was 0.78, 0.65, 0.72 and 0.55 by layers that showed most difference in herb stratum. Considering the results, this study would be applied to the ecosystem diagnose and management of forest fire damaged area similar to the investigated area.
