A Study on the Development of the Export Factoring in UK and US (영미 수출팩토링 제도에 관한 연구 - 한국에의 시사점을 중심으로-)

  • The country using factoring actively today is England. The history of factoring could throw back to the Middle Ages, but modern factoring was developed in colonial age of the United States and it was known throughout England in 1960s. At the beginning, it performed mercantile agent who works in local area in order to get rid of uncertainty and inconvenience of a distant trade, but it was getting developed into a today's factoring system which focusing more on financial function. The factoring is called 'account receivable financing' in the United States and it is started out as sales agent and getting developed to 'del credere agent' who guarantee the payment. The activities of factors have been expanded to not only consignment sale and payment guarantees but also advance financing service. However, at the end of the 19th century, the direct sales(direct marketing) was expanded by the development of telecommunication and transportation technology, and then the marketing service by factor was degraded, but the collection of payment and advance finance had been maintained until now and developed into today's factoring system. Especially, the establishment of Uniform Commercial Code in 1931 had formed the basis for activating factoring in the United States through preparing a legal basis of factoring. Due to changes of international trade environment, most of commercial bank in Korea have to deal with export factoring as a trade finance service and it is desirable to specialize as a financing for small and medium company.

  • The purpose of this article is to analyse the military thought of Ferdinand Foch and to present its contemporary meanings. 1.Foch's life: Since 1871 to end of World War I, he acted as a military philosopher, battle field commander, and Supreme Commender of the Unified Forces so as to be judged as Clausewitz of the 20th century. 2. Historical Background of Foch's Activity Period : The series of the domestic revolutions after Napoleon's downfall were extended to Europe for independence, unification and overseas colonial wars. Thus Foch's growing and acting period was in totally imminent danger at all fields. 3. Foch's Military Thought : Through his three books, he argued cleary the absolute importance of the immaterial power including the technical esteem and the offensive fighting will for the victory. 4. The Contemporary Application of Foch's Thought : Though the operation plan based on Foch's strategic thought was defeated at the early stage of the World War I, its offensive-oriented immaterial spirit power should be remembered. 5. Conclusion : Foch's thought which develops the penetration through the war history and emphasizes the importance of the immaterial power should be highly appraised. Thus it should be also reinterpreted and redeveloped into a modern contemporary meaning.

  • The modern urban planning of Qingdao began in the early 20th century by the German colonization. At that time, the Germans adopted the modern urban planning philosophy and standards for building high-level cities in Qingdao's planning. Therefore, in the turmoil that followed the period of Japanese occupation and the Republic of China, although urban planners constantly changed, they always planned according to the initial plans of the city. Therefore, this paper conducted a time division on the urban planning of the Qingdao colonial period through an analysis of various literary materials by combining the historical backgrounds of different periods. This can be the basis for an analysis of current urban planning in Qingdao. This paper is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction for description purposes and scope. In Chapter 2, the Urban Planning of Qingdao in the Chinese Colonial Period is confirmed and explained. Chapter 3 concludes the characteristics of the planning.

  • This study gropes for historical geographic approach to regional research in view of new regional geography. A geographical methodology in regional geography pursues the dialectics of concrete totalities. Regional researches think that social processes interact with the uniqueness of regional characteristics and that region is a historical unit which changes dynamically. Time in regional changes is understood in terms of a dialectics of continuity and break. Transition from feudalism to capitalism is the important period which is captured continuity and break simultaneously. Research objects in this research are money, market and city. Money symbolizes transition to capitalism, and market and city have the importance in transition from feudalism to capitalism In Korea, historical geographic approach to money, market and city both in the era of opening ports and in the Japanese colonial times in Korea are important objects in regional geography. Colonial urban research in view of money and market from the era of opening ports to the Japanese colonial times in Korea is a theme which includes a dialectic of concrete totalities in historical geographic approach in regional geography.

The Remained Basis and the Locational Characteristics of Manufacturing in Chonnam Region (전남지역 제조업의 존립기반과 입지특성)

  • This study is to examine the remained basis and the locational characteristics of manufacturing in Chonnam region. First, the locational characteristics of manufacturing in the peripheral region examined through theoretical discussions about manufacturing location. And the locational characteristics of the small and medium firms and large firms be studied as to understand the precedent characteristics of Chonnam region. Chonnam region have the precedent characteristics that the regional capital is not accumulated as Japen exploit agricultural products at a colonial period. And SOC, industry and technology are not developed as geographically Chonnam lesion turn aside the economics axis of Korea-Japen-America within a period of industrialization. Manufacturing firms have beer make up the traditional indigenous firms which base on local market, agriculture and marine products in Chonnam lesion. The characteristics of these firms mainly are food & drink, nonmetal industry that is composed of the small and medium sized firms. The industrial structure is changing to machinery, chemistry, electronics industry from food & drink, nonmetal industry. But these industry is making the simple products. In Chonnam region, these change of industrial structure was expanding to the inland or coast region from the neighhoring region of Kwangju metropolitan. The blanch factories of large enterprises that located in Chonnam region are not connected with small and medium sized firms. The small and medium sized firms are not developed. Because these large enterprises are the iron and steel industry or chemistry industry. So the large-manufacturing firms have characteristics of the capital intensive industry, and make up the monopolistic industrial space of fordist blanch factories.

The process of modernization of Geomundo during Japanese colonial period : focused on social structure (일제강점기 거문도 근대화 과정 -사회구조를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper analyzed the process of modernization in terms of the social structure in Geomundo. Before modernization, social structure in Geomundo was traditional society by a village unit. A village had community rituals and organization. There were independent parallel spatial structure among villages. In the early Japanese colonial period, 'forced modernization' had been occurred by Japanese immigrants settling in a separate living space. The modernization was transplanted in a new established village and diffused into other villages. In the process of forced modernization, the connection among villages was reinforced, as the result of that modern social organization was emerged, and the characteristics of community rituals had been changed. During modernization indigenization period, advanced fishery technology and distribution system occurred capitalist production system helping to place modern norms in the general daily life. In the late Japanese colonial period, aided organizations from local government and informal organizations reversed the trend of modernization through helping colonial exploitation policy. The spatial structure in Geomundo had become to hierarchical structure with intensified connectivity as the result of extensive spread of community territory. Modernization in Japanese colonial period was 'forced modernization' and could not re-established the community spirits. The community spirit has been broken up by dissolving the existing self regulating and self motivated organization.

A Critical Study on the Landform Recognition of Daegu City as an Intermontane Basin (대구 산간분지 지형 인식에 대한 비판적 고찰)

  • We may have an incorrect view of Korea and the world by misunderstanding them with a number of geographic misconceptions. Such misconceptions constructed socially tend to perpetuate through reproducing and learning repeatedly from one generation to the next. 'Daegu city is in the intermontane basin.' It is also identified that this geographic misconception had constructed (made) by two Japanese geographers (Tamura, 1933; Tada, 1940) in the Japanese colonial period, and have been reproduced and diffused by many Korean geographers (professors and teachers) as well as journalists in the post-colonial days. In terms of the definition of an intermontane basin in the Encyclopedia of Geomorphology published by the International Association of Geomorphologists, Daegu seems not to be a basin city but to be a plain city, since the central plain of Daegu is surrounded by higher terrain like mountains and hills only on the north and south directions of all sides, and also it is well developed thanks to its location where the downstream of the Geumhogang river flows from east to west. This paper hopes that the landform recognition as 'Daegu intermontane basin city' should be corrected as soon as possible, and also many geographic misconceptions will be studied actively for an accurate understanding of Korea and the world.

A Comparative Study of the Korean, Japanese and Manchurian Railway Policy during the Japan Colonial Period (한국, 일본, 만주의 철도현황 비교연구 -1920년대 중반 일제강점기를 중심으로-)

  • At the end of the 19th and in the early 20th centuries, Japan, Korea, and Manchuria, and areas throughout East Asia, suffered a number of cycles of growth and development, for which the railway was a very important development tool and was closely associated with national policy. East Asian affairs, especially at the time, seemed very important to the continent, and their influence on the advance of this remarkable era was especially prominent in Japan. In the midst of this period, the national railway may have evolved under national policy and railway policy and under a variety of organizations and persons of influence. In this paper, we have tried to find the similarities and differences among the three countries that built the East Asia Railway; we consider the characteristics of the East Asia Railway from the perspectives of these three countries. Comparing the characteristics of the three country's railways, first, Japan had the motives of continental expansion and modernization in its pursuit of the railway; in Korea, the railway played the role of a continental rail link; and in Manchuria there was a tendency to pursue direct domination of the railway. Second, the Japanese applied their railway model to Korea; the Korean railway may have been in operation, but it was an extension of the railway of Japan. The railway in Manchuria showed a similar pattern to that which can be found in the state of Asian domination of Europe ; Japan showed aspects of dominance over the railway because it had experience running a private railway.

  • We, currently settled on the peninsula, have a long history and our ancestors lived over the vast land further to the central Asia and northern China. Normally, our ancestors traded with many countries, but they fought battles when they were on bad terms and many countries emerged and disappeared. In this history, a variety of cultures have been established and the traditional martial arts is a part of those cultures. Our martial arts has been almost severed because of the development of fire weapons in the late Chosun Dynasty, Japan's colonial rule, and 1950-53 Korean War. Fortunately, we can study the traditional martial arts from history books, the records on the martial art books and relics. Muyeadobotongji, the martial art book published in the late Chosun Dynasty, regrets the negligence of martial arts Giyae(arts) after Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592 and the Manchu war of 1636 and accommodated the martial art skills from Chosun, China and Japan. It is useful for studying martial arts, because it contains detailed description and drawings, clothes and accessories, and the specification of the weapons. However, the problem is the level of Giyae of the martial arts organization and individuals based on Muyeadobotongji vary and some organizations are arguing about the numbers.

Industrial Fluctuations and Locality of Busan with Records (기록으로 본 부산의 산업변동과 로컬리티)

  • This study analyzes the process of growth of Busan from a fishing village to the capital city of South Gyeongsang Province and the central city of transportation and commerce, and an industry with records. The results of the analysis are as follows: after the port opened in 1876, there has been a decline in settlement spaces in Dongnae; on the other hand, there has been an increase in migration spaces around the port of Busan. Waegwan (倭館) nearby Yongdusan Mountain (龍頭山) was changed to the Japanese concession; thus, the number of Japanese moving into Busan had rapidly increased. As a result, the Japanese government carried out reclamation work for securing available lands for the construction of port facilities and other facilities. The Japanese government built public offices and houses, as well as production facilities for daily necessities around the port of Busan. The opening of the Seoul Busan railway (京釜線) and the cross-channel liner between Busan and Shimonoseki (釜關連絡船) led to the growth of Busan and the development of its status. At this time, as the main industry of Busan was trade, Busan had grown as a commercial city. As Busan had grown as a central city of transportation and commerce, the provincial government building of Gyeongsangnam-do (慶尙南道) moved to Busan. Thus, Busan became the central city of local politics and administration. After the Land Survey Project, a large scale of farmers were recruited for low-wage work in the new port. Because of the abolition of the corporation law, Japanese capitalists moved into their colony in Busan. There, large-scale factories, such as the Joseon cotton textile factory, were established. Through this process, the locality of Busan was changed from a fishing village to a commercial city and, finally, to a city of commerce and industry.
