  • While the darkling beetle, Alphitobius diaperinus (Panzer) (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) is considered a pest of stored products, it does not pose a significant economic threat to this industry. The grains these beetles feeding on are often already damaged. However, the beetle is now being treated as the foremost premise pest in the poultry industry in many countries of the world. Recently, the darkling beetle has also infested in broiler chicken houses of Korea. The problems caused by this pest destroy the insulate facilities of poultry houses, reduce chick's overall performance, transmit pathogenic organisms, and have been leading to substantial economic losses for poultry producers. Therefore, we conducted surveys on the status of infestation and damage of this pest in broiler chicken houses. Because there is no simple one step process that will completely eliminate darkling beetle populations from broiler facilities, we would like to outline further studies on the proper control measures.

  • There are many studies to incorporate virtual reality technology into agricultural education. Interest in virtual reality is increasing not only for direct education such as agricultural machinery education but also for indirect education using games. A key technology in virtual reality is to model objects to feel as real as they are. Plants grown on a farm are equally affected by the environment of the farm. Plants also have their independent characteristics. In this paper, we propose a method to model plants in three dimensions in NPC form by reflecting these characteristics. The proposed method implements how individual plants reflect common weather and farm characteristics, and their unique characteristics. Implementation results show that the proposed method is simple but expresses the plants very realistically.

  • In this paper, a temperature and humidity algorithm was proposed to enhance the economic efficiency and productivity of smart farm. The basic conditions of smart farms were analyzed, and the information exchange system between sensors and control objects in smart farms based on wireless communication was designed. Based on this, a temperature and humidity control algorithm was developed so that temperature, humidity and soil humidity within smart farm can be followed in predefined values for plant growth. To verify the validity of the proposed design methodology and control algorithm, a prototype of small scale smart farm based on 2.4GHz wireless communication were built and their validity was confirmed through repeated temperature and humidity test.

  • Agriculture has the longest history in many industries and is directly or indirectly linked to human development. However, recently agriculture in Korea has difficulties in farm management due to the decrease of rural population, aging of society, increase of material costs, and climate change on the Korean peninsula. Smart farms using ICT are proposed as an alternative to solve these problems. Smart farms manage the temperature and water supply facilities of farms through various sensors, but there is a limit to the delicate management of crops. Therefore, in this paper, unlike the conventional moisture sensor, the water supply is varied according to the depth of the soil, thereby realizing an optimized environment for plant growth.

Based on the list of the rare plants by the Forest Research Institute, 3 taxa were recorded in the studied areas; Lilium callosum (Preservation priority order; No. 191), Viola albida (No. 202), Wikstroemia trichotoma (No. 120) and based on the list of Korean endemic plants, 8 taxa were recorded; Carex okamotoi, Lilium amabile, Carpinus coreana, Clematis trichotoma, Stewartia koreana, Ajuga spectabilis, Weigela subsessilis, Adenophora triphylla var. hirsute. Specific plants by floral region were total 44 taxa; Prunus davidiana, Wistaria floribunda in class IV, 9 taxa (Neolitsea aciculata, Vaccinium bracteatum, Utricularia racemosa, etc.) in class III, 5 taxa (Bupleurum longiradiatum, Ostericum melanotilingia, Cirsium schantarense) in class II, 28 taxa (Polygonatum falcatum, Eurya japonica, Ajuga spectabilis, etc.) in class I. The naturalized plants in this site were 4 families, 6 genera, 9 taxa and naturalization rate was 2.8% of all 325 taxa vascular plants.

  • For determination of mutation frequency induced by chronic irradiation of low dose gamma rays, Tradescarrfia clone 4430 was exposed to Co-60 ${\gamma}$ rays with different exposure rates from 3.6mR/day to 182R/day in or out of the Gamma Field at Kumkok Experiment Farm of KAERI. Somatic mutations based on pink mutant events of the stamen hair cells were clearly observed by the treatment. The pink mutant events were increased proportionally with increasing exposure rates of gamma ray except for relatively high dose rates of 105 R/day and 182 R/day, indicating saturation effect of mutation. The somatic pink mutations could be fairly detectable even in the low dose rate of 3.6mR/day. Therefore, this stamen hair system of Tradescantia clone 4430 seemed to be an reasonable test system for detecting mutability of low level irradiation. These results imply that artificial mutation induction in the fruit and ornamental trees could be expected in the ${\gamma}$-field.

  • In this paper, to establish a high-efficiency air-conditioning and heating system, we developed a simultaneous air-conditioning and heating system that can do both air-conditioning and heating at the same time. It was applied to hybrid plant plants to enable automation of complex farms. For this purpose, the heat exchanger, which functions as a condenser during heating, was required to function as an evaporator during cooling so that air conditioning and heating could be implemented simultaneously. For experiments, the simultaneous air conditioning system for heating and cooling was produced and applied to the plant factories in the farms so that plants could be grown, stored, and dried. As a result, a single system was able to control the temperature environment of agricultural products with an energy-saving system that simultaneously resolves heating and cooling. Therefore, efficient crop management was possible by implementing an air conditioning system that did not require installing air conditioners and boilers at the same time.

  • According to the 2020 Global Climate Report released by the World Meteorological Organization, the average temperature of the Earth in 2019 was measured 1.1℃ higher on average than the temperature measured between 1850 and 1900 before industrialization. The change in average temperature affects the distribution of plants, and according to the vulnerability analysis paper, it can be seen that there is a change in the distribution area of plants when the average temperature rises. In this paper, to cope with these environmental changes, we propose a method of fabricating intermittent flow hydroponic smart farms using Arduino and sensors and controlling them through PCs and applications. The manufactured hydroponic smart farm identifies the farm's temperature and humidity, positive pH concentration, illumination, and water quality to check the amount of pumping, supplement LED control, sensor condition, overall management and cultivation of the farm, and grows in an appropriate environment.
