  • Errors of relative permittivity calculation caused by the variation of sample aspect ratio (diameter/height) and measuring geometry were analyzed by computer simulation and measurement. Firstly, the $S_{21}$ spectrum of the sample (permittivity 38) was simulated in the post resonator measuring apparatus by HFSS simulation. Then, the relative permittivity was calculated from the $TE_{011}$ mode resonant frequency. The relative permittivity varied by ca. 0.3% with sample aspect ratio variation (D/H=0.8~1.6). The relative permittivity varied by ca. 1~10% when the 1~10% of air-gap was introduced in between the dielectric disk and upper conductor. All the simulation results showed consistent tendency with real measurement.

  • The fine aggregates of below 2 mm size was fabricated using by the vertical furnace in which the aggregates could be sintered at floating state and its physical properties were analyzed. The liquid formed at the surface of specimens sintered at $1200{\sim}l300^{\circ}C$ induced a gas in core to expand so the denser shell and porous core could be produced. The C series specimen fabricated by crushing an extruded body had an irregular shape and sharp edges but those became spheroidized by bloating due to gas expansion inside. The fine aggregates fabricated in this study was as light as floating in the water and had an apparent density of $0.68{\sim}1.08$. The absorption rate was proportioned to a porosity showing that the pores in core was not closed completely. The properties of fine aggregates fabricated in vertical furnace were similar with those of in an electric muffle furnace but the sticking-together phenomenon by surface fusion was not occurred in the vertical furnace. The aggregates fabricated in this study had a little lower impact resistance than that of natural aggregate but satisfied the unit volume weight standard specified in KS.

  • Shielded laser ablation system composed of laser system, image analyser, XYZ translator with motion controller, ablation chamber, manipulator and various optics was designed. Nd:YAG laser which can be tunable from 1064 nm to 266 m was selected as light source. CCD camera(< $\pm$200) was chosen to analyze a crater less than 50 un in diameter. XYZ translator was composed of three linear stage which can travel 50 w with a minimum movement of 1 um and motion controller. Before the performance test, each part of system was optically aligned. To perform the ablation test, the specimen was ablated by 50 um interval and observed by image analyser The shape of crater was almost round, indicating laser beam has homogeneous energy distribution. The resolution and magnification of image system were compatible with the design.

  • There is great requirement on the TEM specimen preparation method with particle size selectivity as a prerequisite for the quantitative structure analysis on the materials such as gibbsite powder, which generally forms a large agglomerate and shows a variation of transition process depending on their sizes. In this experiment, we made an attempt to give a methodology for the TEM specimen preparation of powder with the size selectivity. After mixing 1 wt% gibbsite powder with ethanol solvent, gibbsite suspension was prepared by application of ball-milling and ultrasonification with addition of 0.25 vol% dispersion agent, Darvan C, which was diluted into distilled water by the ratio 1:19. Appling the static sedimentation method to gibbsite suspension after estimation of the sedimentation time by the measurement of accumulative concentration variation, we acquired TEM specimens with well-dispersed and size selected gibbsite particles in nm scale. Overall picture of each sample was taken by SEM and morphology of each dispersed particle was imaged by TEM. Raw and processed gibbsite powders were also examined by XRD to investigate whether they were suffered from phase change during the process or not.

  • Using chemical vapor deposition(CVD), the synthesis of graphene was performed on poly and single crystalline Cu substrates. The growth behavior of graphene and its characterization were shown utilizing the optical microscopic image and its image analysis. As a result in the analysis of graphene growth, it was found out the graphene is growing always in particular direction in relation to the crystalline direction of a single grain in polycrystalline Cu substrate. With the image analysis it was possible to show the characterization of graphene, such as the growth direction and the number of layers showing single, double and triple layers, within the neighboring single grains in polycrystalline Cu. In addition, the relatively large area of graphene with about $3mm^2$ on Cu(111) having high quality, single layer, and single crystalline was shown along with its characterization.

  • In Korea, press concrete in basements is mainly applied using plain concrete. This system has undesirable defects such as cracks caused by plastic shrinkage and irregular temperature distribution. To solve this problem, metal lath and fibers have been used in the past. However, they have not been effective in controlling cracks. This study analyzed the reduction of plastic shrinkage cracking for press concrete using various admixtures in a basement has been. In the air contents test, the specimens with various admixtures showed air contents similar to plain concrete (4.5±1.5%). The specimens using silica fume, super plasticizer agent, and SBR showed higher compressive strength by about 10-15% than plain concrete. Cracking decreased when the MC, super plasticizer, and SBR were added. When MC was used in the concrete, the plastic shrinkage did not occur.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate crack reduction properties of covering concrete with fibers in basement. Air contents, slump, compressive strength, tensile strength and plastic shrinkage has been tested to conduct the optimum addition ratio and type of fiber. The results is a following. For the properties of air contents, all of the specimens added fibers shown the higher than plain concrete. For the flowability, slump decreased about 40-80% when all of the specimens added fibers. For the strength properties, the specimens added nylon fiber shown higher compressive and tensile strength about 5-15% comparing with other concrete. For the plastic shrinkage, cracking decreased when the fiber added comparing with plain concrete. Especially, when nylon fiber added in the concrete, the plastic shrinkage did not occurred. For the overall consideration, when the addition ratio of nylon fiber is 0.6%, the press concrete is identified as showed optimum properties.

  • Concrete strength relationship between various strength properties was presented through experimental data from concretes made from different sources of coarse aggregates and fine aggregates, and different amount of cement contents. In the strength relationship were included compression-flexure, compression-split tension, compression-modulus and flexure-split tension. A total of 61~81 data sets were analyzed while each data set is composed of 3 to 4 experimental test data. Using the proposed strength relations, a procedure to reliably estimate modulus values from the LTPP field test section was suggested. Core specimens were taken from 10 LTPP sections on the expressway as well as 4 sections on the national road. Then compressive strengths and modulus were determined in the lab. Finally concrete modulus was averaged with the estimated values by using the derived relationship and experimental values.

  • This research was to evaluate conservational stability of cleaning treatment and color recovery by weak acid treatment on ivory. Before this experiment, had an ivory identification such as black light and schreger angle to find whether it is authentic or not. In wet cleaning treatment on ivory, used polar solvents such as distilled water, acetone, ethyl alcohol and acetic acid which usually used for cleaning ivory and bones. After cleaning took a experiment to evaluate conservational stability in surface observation, calculate weight and color difference. Following these results, these polar solvents were stable on the ivory samples. On the other hand, in weak acid treatment, used samples that were exposed by UV-A, UV-B, UV-C for 1 weeks, to restore its color from changed to original color. After treatment, found tiny cracks and exfoliation on the surface. Moreover, the color changed when it is treated by lemon juice, so, it is impossible to adapt.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility on the detection of dental composite delamination using a lock-in thermography method. Amplitude and phase images of detected thermal signals were analyzed according to the lock-in frequencies. At a lock-in frequency of 0.05 Hz, the ligament thickness of 0.5 mm in the specimen exhibited the highest amplitude contrast between defective area and sound area. For ligament thicknesses of 1 mm and 1.5 mm, delamination detection was possible at 0.025 Hz and 0.01 Hz through the amplitude differences. At lock-in frequencies of 0.006 Hz and 0.01 Hz, ligament thickness 0.5 mm exhibited the highest phase contrast. For ligament thicknesses of 1 mm and 1.5 mm, the phase contrast exhibited possible detection of delamination at 0.006-0.1 Hz.
