Fast Staggered Data Broadcasting and Receiving Scheme for Simple and Efficient Video on Demand Services (주문형 비디오 서비스의 복잡성와 대역폭 효율을 개선한 Fast Staggered 방식)

  • In designing a video-on-demand (VoD) system, one of the major challenges is how to reduce the viewer's waiting time maintaining a given bandwidth allocation and how to reduce the client's buffer requirements. To solve these problems, many VoD schemes were proposed. However, most VoD schemes require managing many segments of a video, frequency channel hopping, and using many channels at the same time. Therefore, to the complexity is a barrier to implementation. In this paper, we propose a fast staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. The numerical results demonstrate that the viewer's waiting time of the fast staggered broadcasting scheme is close to the fast broadcasting scheme and the buffer requirements of this can be adapt for demanding rate by adjusting the short front part of a video sizes.

  • The development of the latest media technology has changed the traditional broadcasting system. The traditional broadcasting system, which was operated by the mass media and the terrestrial broadcasters, is now transformed to the viewer-centered and bidirectional media through the convergence of internet and mobile. In terms of broadcasting environment, the function of the traditional TVs has been changed to the Smart TVs combined with an open platform which not only deliver visual contents, but also supply various applications and additional information linking the content providers and viewers. This ongoing broadcasting environmental change has made it possible for viewers to participate in the programs such as reality shows or sports events through SNS, texting or phone calls. Therefore, the purpose of this experiment is to present the ways to promote easier and more convenient viewer-participation in the programs by applying mobile messenger to existing broadcasting system in order to enhance the involvement of broadcasters and viewers of the programs and to diversify the roles of content providers and viewers in broadcasting.

  • 본 논문에서는 3차원 스테레오 영상에서의 시각적 피로도와 안구의 운동량과의 상관관계를 도출하고 시각적 피로도 측정 시스템을 제안한다. 제안한 측정 방법은 3차원 스테레오 영상 시청자의 피로도가 누적되었을 때, 안구의 단속성 운동(saccade)이 감소할 것이라는 가정에 기반을 둔다. 액티브 셔터글라스 방식의 3D 안경을 착용한 시청자의 동공을 검출하고 추적하기 위해 적외선 광원 및 적외선 카메라를 이용한다. 획득한 영상에 대해 이진 임계화를 적용하고 타원 피팅을 수행하여 동공의 위치를 검출한다. 피팅된 타원의 이심률과 크기 및 위치를 제한하여 검출 오류를 줄인다. 검출된 동공의 위치를 바탕으로 안구의 단속성 운동량을 측정한다. 실험에는 변이 정도가 크지 않아 편안하게 시청 가능한 스테레오 영상과 과도한 변이를 가져 시청하는데 불편한 영상이 분리되어 사용되었다. 이들 영상에 대해 각각 실험자의 단속성 운동량을 측정하였다. 실험 결과에서 안구의 단속성 운동량이 변이가 큰 영상에서 그렇지 않은 영상에 비해 감소하는 경향이 나타났다.

Target Advertisement Service using a Viewer's Profile Reasoning (시청자 프로파일 추론 기법을 이용한 표적 광고 서비스)

  • In the existing broadcasting environment, it is not easy to serve the bi-directional service between a broadcasting server and a TV audience. In the uni-directional broadcasting environments, almost TV programs are scheduled depending on the viewers' popular watching time, and the advertisement contents in these TV programs are mainly arranged by the popularity and the ages of the audience. The audiences make an effort to sort and select their favorite programs. However, the advertisement programs which support the TV program the audience want are not served to the appropriate audiences efficiently. This randomly provided advertisement contents can occur to the audiences' indifference and avoidance. In this paper, we propose the target advertisement service for the appropriate distribution of the advertisement contents. The proposed target advertisement service estimates the audience's profile without any issuing the private information and provides the target-advertised contents by using his/her estimated profile. For the experimental results, we used the real audiences' TV usage history such as the ages, fonder and time of the programs from AC Neilson Korea. And we show the accuracy of the proposed target advertisement service algorithm. NDS (Normalized Distance Sum) and the Vector correlation method, and implementation of our target advertisement service system.

Staircase Staggered Data Broadcasting and Receiving Scheme for Popular Video Services (계단형 스태거드 데이터 방송 전송방식을 이용한 주문형 비디오 서비스)

In this paper, we propose a Staircase Staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. For this reason, many significant broadcasting-based VoD schemes have been proposed to efficiently support services. However, the broadcasting-based VoD schemes approach needs frequency channel hopping, using many channels at the same time and managing many segments of a video. These make it difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose a Harmonic Staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. The numerical results demonstrate that the viewer's waiting time of the Harmonic Staggered broadcasting scheme is close to the harmonic broadcasting scheme and the maximum buffer requirements of this can be adapted for demanding rate by adjusting the short front part of a video sizes.

  • This paper presents a robust viewpoint estimation algorithm for Moving Parallax Barrier mobile 3D display in sudden illumination changes. We analyze the previous viewpoint estimation algorithm that consists of the Viola-Jones face detector and the feature tracking by the Optical-Flow. The sudden changes in illumination decreases the performance of the Optical-flow feature tracker. In order to solve the problem, we define a novel performance measure for the Optical-Flow tracker. The overall performance can be increased by the selective adoption of the Viola-Jones detector and the Optical-flow tracker depending on the performance measure. Various experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • 기존의 정보 제공형 서비스에 시청자가 접근하기 위해서는 TV 시청을 중단하고 여러 단계를 거쳐서 이동해야 하고, 접근하는 시간이 시청자가 원하는 시간보다 오래 걸리는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 접근성을 극복하기 위하여 데이터방송 위젯 애플리케이션을 제안한다. 본고에서는 실제 방송에 적용하기 위하여 개발한 실험용 위젯 애플리케이션을 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 위젯 애플리케이션으로 적용시킬 수 있는 정보는 무한하므로 위젯의 구조 또한 쉽게 응용하여 만들 수 있도록 설계하였다. 그리고, 화면상에 하나의 위젯만 떠있는 것이 아니라 다중의 위젯이 떠있는 상태를 관리할 수 있는 위젯 관리 애플리케이션도 살펴본다. 특정 플랫폼에 국한하지 않고 모든 플랫폼에 적용될 수 있도록 개발하였다.

  • 최근 시청자에게 실재적인 몰입감을 제공하는 실감미디어가 발전하고 있다. 이러한 실감미디어 중 가장 접근성이 뛰어난 것은 VR으로, 현재 다양한 서비스에 응용되고 있는 상황이다. 하지만 360VR은 높은 비트 전송률과 고해상도의 특성을 지니고 있기 때문에 대역폭 비용 및 시청자의 QoE 보장의 불확실성 등의 다양한 문제가 있다. 이러한 문제를 개선시키기 위해 HTTP 기반의 적응적 스트리밍 기법이 발전해나가고 있으며 이 기술의 표준으로 MPEG-DASH가 채택되었다. MPEG-DASH는 TCP 기반의 전송 프로토콜을 사용하고 있지만 현재 TCP는 고용량의 데이터가 전송되는 웹 기반에서 HTTP의 병목현상을 일으켜 대역폭 효율성을 떨어뜨리는 하나의 원인으로 나타나고 있다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 본 논문에서는 UDP 기반의 QUIC 프로토콜을 MPEG-DASH에 적용하는 시스템을 고안하고 이를 QUIC-DASH라 칭한다. 고해상도의 360VR 송출 실험으로 QUIC-DASH 시스템과 기존의 MPEG-DASH 시스템을 비교 분석한 결과로 대역폭의 절감이 이루어진 것을 확인하였다.

Weighted Markov Model for Recommending Personalized Broadcasting Contents (개인화된 방송 컨텐츠 추천을 위한 가중치 적용 Markov 모델)

  • In this paper, we propose the weighted Markov model for recommending the users' prefered contents in the environment with considering the users' transition of their content consumption mind according to the kind of contents providing in time. In general, TV viewers have an intention to consume again the preferred contents consumed in recent by them. In order to take into the consideration, we modify the preference transition matrix by providing weights to the consecutively consumed contents for recommending the users' preferred contents. We applied the proposed model to the recommendation of TV viewer's genre preference. The experimental result shows that our method is more efficient than the typical methods.
