  • Globally, the emergence of smart phones vitalized the ecosystem of mobile data service industry. Consequentially, mobile data traffic has been explosively growing and the speed of growth will be more steep. New spectrum will be required in order to properly accommodate the explosively growing mobile data traffic. However, it will be difficult to acquire a sufficient guard band between different frequency bands because the range of frequency which is suitable for wireless communications is limited. Thus, the performance degradation caused by inter-band interference will be one of challenging problems in the next generation mobile communication systems. In this paper, we analyze the performance degradation caused by inter-band interference by computer simulations in various environments. Our results show that the impact of the inter-band interference is more critical when own signal is poor or its own interference from neighboring cells is low.

  • Programmers can use the Hardware-Software Co-Designing, in which they design a hardware system and software system simultaneously and then unify them, to design an embedded system. This study analyzes the problems of designing an embedded system and suggests applying the system-level design technique, which uses SpecC technology, as a solution to the problems. Also, it suggests systematic and concrete stepwise refinement by applying Refactoring technology in software engineering as a way to make the use of system-level stepwise refinement.

  • In this paper, we propose a distributed communication model of intrusion detection system(IDS) in which integrated security management at networks level is possible, model it at a security node and distributed system levels, design and implement a simulator. At the node level, we evaluate the transfer capability of alert message based on the analysis of giga-bit security node architecture which performs hardware-based intrusion detection. At the distributed system level, we perform the evaluation of transfer capability of detection and alert informations between components of distributed IDS. In the proposed model, we carry out the performance evaluation considering decision factors of communication mechanism and present the results in order to gain some quantitative understanding of the system.

  • Satellite generates a complex electromagnetic noise by conducted and radiated coupling effect of the various electrical instruments. This noise may cause serious problems on the satellite system. To minimize the electromagnetic coupling effects and maintain the system safety margin, system noise reduction technique should be applied from the beginning of the system design. The KOMPSAT-2 system is evaluated by measuring the conducted noise on system electrical power leads and verifying a 6dB system safety margin under the complex noise environment with current injection. This paper describes the KOMPSAT-2 system evaluation result performed on ETB(Electrical Test Bed) and the analysed noise element, the analysed result will be reflected on FM(Flight Model) EMC test.

  • In this paper, LC output filters are designed to reduce output harmonics and harmonic analysis are peformed. Generally, multilevel inverters are used in high power application and operates with low switching frequency, which, in turn, generates large output harmonics. Output filters we used to reduce output harmonics. The design approach to reduce output harmonics of the 31eve1 multilevel inverter is discussed and DSP(TMS320C31) is used for the digital control of the system. The design example is given. The designed system is verified by simulation and experiment.

  • This paper proposes a snubber circuit for flying capacitor 3-level inverter and converter. The proposed snubber circuit makes use of Undeland snubber as basic snubber unit. It has such an advantage of Undeland snubber used in the two-level inverter. Compared with conventional RLD/RCD snubber for 3-level inverter and converter, the proposed snubber keeps such good features as fewer number of components, reduction of voltage stress of main switching devices due to low overvoltage, and improved efficiency of system due to low snubber loss. In this paper, the proposed snubber is applied to multilevel flying capacitor inverter and its feature is demonstrated by computer simulation and experimental result.

  • This paper describes dynamic performance analysis of a STATCOM based on 3-level inverter. Major attention is focused on the controller design for 3-level inverter, including regulator design for voltage sharing across the dc link capacitors. A detailed simulation model was developed with Matlab and a scaled hardware model was built and tested to verify the proposed approach. Both simulation and experimental results confirm that the developed controller can regulate the reactive power. The developed controller could be effectively applied to the actual hardware system for STATCOM.

  • This paper presents a performance improvement of gray level co-occurrence matrix(GLCM) based on the nonuniform quantization, which is generally used to analyze the texture of images. The nonuniform quantization is given by Lloyd algorithm of recursive technique by minimizing the mean square error. The nonlinear intensity levels by performing nonuniformly the quantization of image have been used to decrease the dimension of GLCM, that is applied to reduce the computation loads as a results of generating the GLCM and calculating the texture parameters by using GLCM. The proposed method has been applied to 30 images of $120{\times}120$ pixels with 256-gray level for analyzing the texture by calculating the 6 parameters, such as angular second moment, contrast, variance, entropy, correlation, inverse difference moment. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior computation time and memory to the conventional 256-level GLCM method without performing the quantization. Especially, 16-gray level by using the nonuniform quantization has the superior performance for analyzing textures to another levels of 48, 32, 12, and 8 levels.

  • The fuel cell system is one of very useful energy sources. The system has advantages as renew-able and environmental sources. To obtain AC electricity from fuel cells, inverters are necessary. A multilevel converter is used as an inverter for a high power fuel cell system. Through harmonic analysis, it is shown that the harmonic components and THD increase while fundamental component decreases as voltage sag increases. To solve the voltage sag problems, three different approaches are investigated in this paper; installation of a boost converter at the fuel cell output, control of pulse widths, and use of ultracapacitors. The proposed three approaches are analyzed and compared using simulation and experimental results.
