Soil microbial community and soil physiological parameters were investigated by analyzing phospholipid fatty acids extracted from the soils amended with chitosan powder and solution in a cucumber greenhouse. The soils were sampled at 90, 160, 200 days after treatment. Identified fatty acids were analyzed with principal component (PC) analysis. Chitosan powder soils and chitosan solution soils were separated from non-treated control soils by PC1 and PC2 90 days after treatment, respectively. And chitosan powder soils were separated from non-treated control soils by PC2 160 days after treatment. The ratio of fungi to bacteria increased significantly in chitosan solution-amended soils compared with the control soils 90 days after treatment. Microbial groups and physiological parameters were investigated 160 days after treatment: vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (VAM) significantly increased in soils amended with chitosan powder compared with other soils, the ratio of gram negative bacteria to gram positive bacteria and cyclo-fatty acids to precursors were significantly higher and lower in soils amended with chitosan solution and chitosan powder compared with control soils, respectively, and the ratio of fungi to bacteria were significantly lower in control soils compared with chitosan-treated soils. The chitosan powder increased the ratio of aerobic to anaerobic bacteria and lowered the ratio of saturated to unsaturated fatty acids compared with chitosan solution 200 days after soil application. In conclusion, chitosan powder changed the soil microbial community and the effects maintained up to 160 days after soil application. The effect of physiological parameters on the soil microbial community started to appear 160 days after and continued up to 200 days after soil application of chitosan.

This study aimed to reveal the establishment process and design concept of KoKwan park built in modern Busan, which is called three major park includes YongDuSan park and TaeJeong Park, by analyzing BusanIlbo published modern period in Busan and 'Busan' published modern Busan prefecture. In KoKwan, there was installed DuMoPo Waegwan. The Japanese residents built the cemetery and memorial stone for Tsunohe Heigo's sudden death in the KoKwan hill, who was an envoy dispatched by Tsusima prefecture, in order to enhance awareness of the old territory DuMoPo Waegwan. In 1916, the Japanese residents repaired ruined the place by rasing funds and donated to Busan prefecture. Busan prefecture went public this place as a park. Meanwhile, In order to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the opening of Busan port, Oike Chusuke's memorial statue was built in private house neiboring KoKwan park. He became the richest person in Busan while engaged in commerce and industry since he come to the Busan the year before the opening of Busan port. He donate garden site includes his statue and 10,000 Won for KoKwan park construction expenses to Busan prefecture Busan prefecture invite Oya Rejo, who was Osaka-Hu's landscape designer, to design the KoKwan park. He visited Busan and survey KoKwan park and other Busan's park and submitted the plan to Busan prefecture. His Plan for KoKwan includes shrine and Oike's statue, arboretum and greenhouses, children's play garden, etc. Oya's design concept of KoKwan park was analyzed as follows: the juxtaposition of the sacred and secular, the succession of present landscape context, the complement of parks content, the tool of nation-state formation. KoKwan park was completed with cost 20,000 won, insufficient budget compared with Oya's estimated amount. However, in this thesis, it was not cleared whether Busan prefecture built the park as it was. In 1945, after the independence, KoKwan Park was destroyed due to build Dong-gu Office, houses. The remained subjects from this study are to clarify the process the destruction of the park.
This study was conducted to monitor the insecticidal susceptibility of western flower thrip, Frankliniella occidentalis, which damage horticultural crops in the Gyeonggi area. Bioassays were conducted under laboratory and greenhouse conditions by using the recommended concentrations of commercial insecticides being used for the control of thrips. Neonicotinoid insecticides, especially acetamiprid (8%) soluble powder (SP), clothianidin (8%) SC, imidacloprid (10%) wettable powder (WP) and thiacloprid (10%) water dispersible granule (WG) were not toxic to F. occidentalis collected from horticultural crops. However, F. occidentalis collected from vegetable greenhouses was extremely susceptible to acetamiprid + spinetoram (6 + 4%) suspension concentration (SC), clothianidin + spinetoram (6 + 4%) SC and methoxyfenozide + spinetoram (6 + 4%) SC, which resulted in over 90% control of thrips. In the greenhouse test, spinetoram (5%) WG, which caused 100% F. occidentalis mortality in the laboratory test, showed 87.4, 88.0, and 98.3% control at 3, 6, and 9 days after treatment, respectively, while imidacloprid (10%) WP showed below 44% control. From the results of this study, spinosin insecticides, such as more than over 4 and 10% of spinetoram and spinosad, and pyrrole insecticide, such as 5% chlorfenapyr, are recommended for the effective control of F. occidentalis.
The occurrence of tobacco whiteflies, Bemisia tabaci, in greenhouses was monitored in Korea in 2005. Bemisia tabaci occurred in the rose, sweet pepper, tomato, and cucumber greenhouses of Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyongnam, and Jeonnam Provinces, but not in Jeonbuk and Gyongbuk Provinces. The biotypes and genetic differentiation of the whiteflies collected in each regions were analyzed by mitochondrial 16S DNA sequences. The 16S DNA sequences of Jincheon (Chungbuk Province) samples were similar to DNA data reported from Japan and Israel which were known as the B biotype. However, the DNA sequences of the Buyeo (Chungnam), Geoje (Gyongnam) and Boseong (Jeonnam) collections, which were 100% homologous showed over 99% similarity to the DNA of Q biotype from Spain and Egyrt. Here we report the first founding of the Q biotype in Korea. It is assumed that, unlike the B biotype reported from Jincheon since 1998, the Q biotype might have been introduced recently from the certain foreign region/country to the greenhouses in those provinces.
In order to evaluate the safety of greenhouse horticultures, a large number sample sources were collected, and the fungi of Aspergillus sp. and Penicillium sp. were isolated from them. Indirect competitive ELISA method and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were applied to confirm the ochratoxin A producing abilities of isolated strains. One hundred ninety two sample sources including soil, pepper, strawberry and water mellon were collected for fungi isolation from western Gyeongnam, Andong and Gyeongbok. One hundred forty two strains of Aspergillus sp. and one hundred fifty three strains of Penicillium sp. were isolated respectively from them. The isolated fungi were tested for the production of ochratoxin A by ELISA. After culture of them on the modified sucrose low salt medium at $28^{\circ}C$ for 15 days, we found that five strains of Penicillium sp. produced ochratoxin A at the levels of $0.084{\sim}2.128\;{\mu}g/mL$. Among them, #129-2 strain isolated from water melon, showed the highest level of ochratoxin A as $2.128\;{\mu}g/mL$ broth. However, all of isolated Aspergillus sp. didn't produce ochratoxin A. When we compared the results of ELISA method with HPLC method, ochratoxin A production of each isolated strains showed very similar levels.
Although biological metabolism in soil is very important for evaluating the soil properties, most of researches have concerned mainly about physical and chemical sides. In this study, biological characteristics were examined to demonstrate the biota in the plastic film house soils. Contents of organic matter and phosphate in soil were increased with cultivation period. ECs of soil cultivated spinach and melon were $3.59dS\;m^{-1}$ and $3.46dS\;m^{-1}$ respectively: these values were higher than that of rose and flower, which were $1.23dS\;m^{-1}$ and $1.32dS\;m^{-1}$ respectively. The population of fluorescent Pseudomonas strains of the soil cultivated flowers: $113.8{\times}10^4{\sim}129.7{\times}10^4cfu\;g^{-1}$ was higher than that of leafy vegetables: $40.7{\times}10^4{\sim}97.9{\times}10^4cfu\;g^{-1}$ and fruiting vegetables: $25.0{\times}10^4{\sim}91.7{\times}10^4cfu\;g^{-1}$. However the number of Fusarium strains of the soil cultivated with flowers: $3.8{\times}10^2{\sim}4.0{\times}10^2cfu\;g^{-1}$ was lower than that of leafy vegetables: $4.3{\times}10^2{\sim}16.3{\times}10^2cfu\;g^{-1}$ and fruiting vegetables: $7.6{\times}10^2{\sim}30.0{\times}10^2cfu\;g^{-1}$. In relation to the cultivation period, the habitation density of aerobic bacteria, mesophilic Bacillus, thermophilic Bacillus, and fluorescent Pseudomonas strains was the highest in the soil cultivated over 11 years, but diversity index showed negative correlation with cultivation period. Microbial biomass C in these soils had positive correlation with each number of microorganisms including aerobic bacteria, actinomycetes, and strains of mesophilic Bacillus as well as the total number of these microorganisms.

To obtain optimum configuration, depth and load of constructed wetlands(CWs) for treating of hydroponic waste solution(HWS) which was produced in greenhouses, the study was conducted with 4 kinds of combined systems such as Vertical flow(VF)-Horizontal flow(HF), VF-VF, HF-VF and HF-HF CWs. In four configurations of CWs, the treatment efficiency of pollutants from HWS under depth of HF and VF beds, HWS loading and HWSs were investigated. Removal rate of pollutants under different depth of VF and HF in 2-stage hybrid CWs was in the order of 50 cm < 70 cm regardless of CWs configuration. Removal rate of pollutants under HWS loading in 2-stage hybrid CWs was in the order of $150L\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}{\fallingdotseq}300L\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}\;>\;450L\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$. The optimum depth and HWS loading were 70 cm and $300L\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$ in four configurations of CWs, respectively. Using this optimum condition, for various HWSs (cucumber, paprika and strawberry HWS), removal rate of pollutants in HF-HF CWs was higher than that in HF-VF CWs. Optimum configuration of 2-stage hybrid CWs for treating hydroponic waste solution in greenhouses was found out to be HF-HF CWs. Therefore, under the optimum conditions, removal rate of BOD, COD, SS, T-N and T-P in HF-HF CWs were 84, 81, 84, 51 and 93%, respectively.

The comparative experiments were conducted for single span greenhouses where cucumbers were cultivated to analyze the effect of heating between a carbon fiber electric heating element heater and an oil hot air heater in terms of the inside climate, energy consumption and plant growth. In order to analyze the effect of heating capacity, 6, 9, and 16 kW of electric powers were supplied to the electric heating element for same setting temperature of 15?. As a result, as the heating capacity increased, the number of ON-OFF cycles of the electric heating element and the temperature inside the greenhouse increased proportionally. In the comparison of two heaters, it was shown that the temperature and relative humidity distributions of the electric heating element installed greenhouse was much uniform than those of the oil hot air heater installed greenhouse. The heating energy consumptions during the heating period of 79 days were 867L for the oil hot air heater and 8,959 kWh for the electric heating element heater, and the heating costs were 607 and 403 thousand won respectively. In the electric heating element installed greenhouse, the cucumber growth was slightly better and the yield was 4.3% higher than those of the oil hot air heater installed greenhouse, but there were no statically significant difference in the cucumber growth and yield between greenhouses.
Insect pests of eggplant, pepper, Chinese cabbage, watermelon, cucumber, melon, and tomato seedlings were surveyed in eleven propagation houses from 1998 to 1999. Ten species of insect pests of nine genera in eight families, two species of mites of one genus in one family, and three species of slugsor snails in three genera belonging to two families were found from the observed seedlings but Bradysia agrestis was the most serious pest out of them. Thus, occurrence and damage of B. agrestis were investigated in two propagation houses all the year round. In the observation of seedling mortalities of seven crops in May, July, October and the following February, only watermelon seedlings were withered and dead by the larva of B. agrestis with different mortality depending on time representing 81.9%, 41.3%, 54.9%, and 79.1%, respectively. All the developmental stages of B. agrestis were found every month throughout the year. Larval density and adult density were different according to season with the highest numbers in May showing 34.9 and 407.4, respectively. Mortality of watermelon seedlings was higher in April and May than the other months showing 83.3% in April and 82.4% in May. The number of adults attracted to sticky trap was also different depending on card colour. The number of adults was much higher on yellow sticky card (326.2) than blue sticky card (20.2). In the investigation of the number of adults on yellow sticky card at 25 cm and 120 cm above the bench and 10 cm under the bench, more numbers of adults were caught at 25 cm above the bench (273.7) and 10 cm under the bench (320.1) than 120 cm above the bench (27.9). Mortalities of cucumber, pepper, and watermelon seedlings after transplanting in greenhouses were not significantly different depending on culture method.
Methanol extracts from 25 leguminous seeds were tested for their fungicidal activities toward six phytopathogenic fungi, using whole plant test in a greenhouse. The efficacy varied with both the plant pathogen and legume species used. At 5 mg/pot, potent fungicidal activities were produced from extracts of Cassia obtusifolia, Glycine max var. solitae, G. max var. yagkong, G. max var. hooktae, Phaseolus multiflorus, P. radiatus var. aurea, and Vigna sinensis against Botrytis cinerea, Puccinia recondita, and Erysiphe graminis. These seed extracts were highly effective against three B. cinerea strains resistant to carbendazim, procymidone, and diethofencarb. All leguminous seed extracts revealed weak or no fungicidal effect against Rhizoctonia solani, Pyricularia grisea, and Phytophthora infestans. As a naturally occurring fungicide, leguminous seed-derived materials described could be useful as new fungicidal products against various plant diseases induced by phytopathogenic fungi.
