  • Local area networks(LANs) recently become so large that they exceed their architected limits and users on different LANs may need to talk each other. This trend has led to a growth in the practice of interconnecting many heterogeneous LANs. In this paper, we proposed a method to interconnect Ethernets and token rings, which are widely used today, through a fast FDDI network. We also developed a simulation tool to evaluate the performances of the interconnected networks. We used a simulation language SLAM II for modeling and OSF/MOTIF X-window for user interface. The developed tool can be used to make a decision which interconnecting method is suitable for a given environment before interconnecting many heterogeneous LANs.

  • Performance bottleneck of parallel computer systems has mostly been I/O devices because of disparity between processor speed and I/O speed. Therefore I/O node placement strategy is required such that it can minimize the number of I/O nodes, I/O access time and I/O traffic in an interconnection network. In this paper, we propose an optimal distance-k embedding algorithm, and analyze its effect on system performance when this algorithm is applied to n x n torus architecture. We prove this algorithm is an efficient I/O node placement using software simulation. I/O node placement using the proposed algorithm shows the highest performance among other I/O node placements in all cases. It is because locations of I/O nodes are uniformly distributed in the whole network, resulting in reduced traffic in the intE'rconnection network.

  • The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) is an active control system that controls the posture of the vehicle by sensing the unstable state of the vehicle during braking, driving, or turning. The system works if the vehicle becomes unstable and it is very dangerous to develop it in the actual vehicle. For this reason, many studies have been carried out on the method of developing with simulation such as SIL / EIL. Some advanced companies have already applied it to the product development process. In this study, ESP hydraulic system and braking device model were constructed using SimulationX to build ESP SIL / EIL model. The hydraulic system model was constructed using the actual design parameters and the performance of the hydraulic model was verified by comparing with the actual vehicle test.

  • This paper develops ABS braking real - time simulator to develop vehicle braking system by simulation. Recently, real-time simulation is widely used in the development of vehicles to decrease development time. In the field of electronic braking, real-time simulation is actively underway. In order to simulate electronic braking model in real time, a vehicle model, a hydraulic model, and a control S/W model are required. These models must be calculated in one platform. Therefore, in this paper, a vehicle model composed of CarSim and a hydraulic model composed of SimulationX using S/W in actual ABS controller was developed as a Simulink model base and linked with Matlab real time model. Using this real-time model, design effects of the electronic braking controller were simulated according to road surface condition to verify its operability.

  • When continuous X-ray are used when acquiring and X-ray image, even the same material may not be accurately represented in the image according to the thickness due to various X-ray energies. To solve this problem, the X-ray energy spectrum was changed to improve the image quality. Using SPEKTR v3.0, an X-ray energy spectrum with an additional filter added and a general X-ray energy spectrum using only a unique filter were obtained. Simulation was performed using the obtained X-ray energy spectrum as a radiation source for Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE). Using GATE data, an X-ray image with an additional filter and an image reconstructed from and X-ray image without an additional filter were compared and analyzed through a mono energy image of 74 keV. In the case of using the X-ray energy spectrum without using an additional filter, the amount of X-rays transmitted according to the thickness of the same material is different from the amount that decreases according to the thickness of the material. Similar results were obtained as the amount decreased with the material thickness. In other words, a similar result was obtained when the reduced dose was used with a mono energy. When an X-ray image is obtained by changing an X-ray energy spectrum using an additional filter, a more accurate result of transmission of X-rays may be obtained. In radiological examination, it was confirmed that the appropriate use of the additional filter has a great effect on improving the image quality.

  • Dose enhancement effects at megavoltage (MV) X and ${\gamma}-ray$ energies, and the effects of different energy levels on incident energy, dose enhancement agents, and concentrations were analyzed using Monte Carlo simulations. Gold, gadolinium, Iodine, and iron oxide ($Fe_2O_3$) were compared as dose enhancement agents. For incident energy, 4, 6, 10 and 15 MV X-ray spectra produced by a linear accelerator and a Co-60 ${\gamma}-ray$ were used. The dose enhancement factor (DEF) was calculated using an ICRU Slab phantom for concentrations of 7, 18, and 30 mg/g. The DEF was higher at higher concentrations of dose enhancement agents and at lower incident energies. The calculated DEF ranged from 1.035 to 1.079, and dose enhancement effects were highest for iron oxide, followed by iodine, gadolinium, and gold. Thus, this study contributes to improving the therapeutic ratio by delivering larger doses of radiation to tumor volume, and provides data to support further in vivo and in vitro studies.

  • Simulation validation techniques which have been employed in most studies are statistical analysis, which validate a model with mean or variance of throughput and resource utilization as an evaluation object. However, these methods have not been able to ensure the reliability of individual elements of the model well. To overcome the problem, the weighted F-measure method was proposed, but this technique also had some limitations. First, it is difficult to apply the technique to complex system environment with numerous values of interarrival time because it assigns a class to an individual value of interarrival time. In addition, due to unbounded weights, the value of weighted F-measure has no lower bound, so it is difficult to determine its threshold. Therefore, this paper propose weighted F-measure technique with cluster analysis to solve these problems. The classes for the technique are defined by each cluster, which reduces considerable number of classes and enables to apply the technique to various systems. Moreover, we improved the validation technique in the way of assigning minimum bounded weights without any lack of objectivity.
