Stability of Cefditoren in Three Oral Liquid Preparations (경구용 시럽제 중 세프디토렌의 안정성에 관한 연구)

  • The stability of cefditoren in three kinds of oral liquid preparations at 4 and $25^{\circ}C$ was studied for 90 days. Two tablets of 100 mg cefditoren pivoxil were mixed with 200 mL of each oral liquid syrup, which is Pebron syrup (oxolamine citrate 10 mg/mL), $Mucopect^{(R)}$ syrup (ambroxol hydrochloride 3 mg/mL) or $Tyrenol^{(R)}$ suspension (acetaminophen encapsulated 32 mg/mL). Three samples of each formulation were refrigerated $(4^{\circ}C)$ and three were stored at room temperature $(25^{\circ}C)$. At predetermined time, samples were assayed by stability-indicating HPLC method. The chromatographic analysis after deliberate degradation showed no evidence of any breakdown product likely to interfere with the chromatographic peak of the parent substance. The relation between cefditoren pivoxil concentration and peak area was linear from 10 to $150{\mu}g/mL\;(r^2=0.9998)$. The analysis method was precise, with coefficients of variation no greater than 3.6%. Cefditoren was stable in $Mucopect^{(R)}$ syrup up to 4 weeks regardless of the temperature; in $Tyrenol^{(R)}$ suspension and Pebron syrup, it was stable for at least 28 and 45 days, and 7 and 45 days at 25 and $4^{\circ}C$, respectively. The percentages of initial cefditoren concentration remaining after 90 days were $51.5{\pm}1.8\;and\;80.9{\pm}5.6%,\;61.7{\pm}7.8\;and\;70.2{\pm}7.3%,\;and\;39.9{\pm}3.2\;and\;81.4{\pm}5.5%$ in $Mucopect^{(R)}$ syrup, $Tyrenol^{(R)}$ suspension and $Pebron^{(R)}$ syrup at 25 and $4^{\circ}C$, respectively. The pH variations of all test solutions were minimal, which was within 0.5. The results indicated that the stability of cefditoren was significantly affected by liquid solutions mixed with cefditoren, and storage tempertature.

비허대서흡수공능적개변급운비치료적작용연구(脾虛大鼠吸收功能的改變及運脾治療的作用硏究) -비허(脾虛)의 동물모델 Rat의 흡수력 변화 및 운비법(運脾法)의 치료효과에 대한 연구

  • 본 연구는 운비요법(運脾療法)이 脾虛 동물모델 Rat의 흡수기능에 미치는 영향을 관찰하기 위한 것이다. 이혈평(利血平)으로 Rat의 비허(脾虛) 상태를 유발시킨 다음 최초로 비허(脾虛) 상태에서의 혈청 중 Zn 및 소장검막의 구조변화를 관찰하였고, 임상적으로는 소아의 편식증, 영양실조성 빈혈, 반복적인 소아감염증상(RRI) 등에 대한 운비법(運脾法)의 효과를 관찰하였다. 청결상태로 관리한 체중이 220-240g의 Wester계 웅성 Rat 15마리를 무작위로 각 5마리씩 정상군, 비허군(脾虛群), 중약투여군에 배분하여 3group으로 나누었다. 비허군과 중약투여군에는 모두 이혈평(利血平)을 소량으로 서서히 투여하였고, 중약투여군에는 동시에 중약 시럽(당장(糖漿))을 경구투여시켜 3주간 실험관찰하였다. 결과 : (1) 섭취량(g/일/마리) : 정상군은 22.1, 비허군(脾虛群)은 9.04, 중약투여군은 17.3으로 각각 나타났다. (2) 체중(g) : 정산군은 $284.2{\pm}32.51$, 비허군(脾虛群)은 $193{\pm}15.26$, 중약투여군은 $231.8{\pm}22.76$으로 각각 측정되었다. (3) 혈청 중 Zn함량(ug/1) : 정상군 $1911{\pm}993.8$, 비허군(脾虛群) $1094{\pm}249.4$, 중약투여군 $2599.8{\pm}1282.1$로 각각 측정되었다. 이와 같은 결과에서 중약투여군의 섭취량, 체중 및 혈청 중 Zn의 함량 모두 대조군에 비교하여 현저하게 개선되었음을 알 수 있다. (4) 소장의 정막구조 : 비허군(脾虛群)은 정상군에 비해 소장의 점막이 현저하게 얇고 융모상 돌기가 오그라들며 퇴화되는 변화를 나타냈고, 일부 융모상 돌기 끝의 상피세포는 국소적 괴사 및 퇴행성 변화를 일으키기도 하였다. 중약투여군은 이에 비해 소장점막이 거의 정상에 가깝게 회복되었다. 결론 : 운비요법(運脾療法)은 비허(脾虛) 동물모델에 대한 흡수기능의 개선에 효과가 있음을 본 실험에서 입증할 수 있었다.

Quality Characteristics of Sulgidduck prepared by Addition of Astringent Persimmon Powder (떫은감 분말을 첨가한 설기떡의 품질특성)

  • This study investigated the quality characteristics of sulgidduck prepared by the addition of astringent persimmon powder. For Sulg : dduck, the amounts of added astringent persimmon powder were 0, 5, 10, 15, 20%. With the addition of astringent persimmon powder content the moisture content of persimmon sulgidduck (sulgidduck prepared by adding astringent persimmon powder) decreased. With increasing addition of those, Reducing sugar, free sugar and mineral (Ca, K and Mg) of persimmon sulgidduck were increased significantly. L-value in color decreased whereas a- and b-values were increased. Adhesiveness, cohesiveness, gumminess and chewiness in textural profile analysis were decreased. However, there is no respective comparison hole. These result suggest that persimmon sulgidduck can be used as rice cakes commercially desired.

  • Terpolymer syrups were photopolymerized from 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, 2-hydroxylethyl acrylate and isobornyl acrylate to prepare acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs). After polymerization, various crosslinkers as 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA), poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA, Mn = 250, 575, and 700) were added and then UV-irradiated to prepare the semi-IPN type PSAs. Their adhesion performance and storage modulus (G') were strongly dependent on their chemical structure and molecular weight of the crosslinkers. Optical properties such as transmittance (> 92.5 %), haze (< 1.0 %) and color-difference (< 0.3) of PSAs samples were not affected by crosslinker types used in this study.

In Vitro Mutagenicity Tests on Palatinose and Palatinose Syrup (팔라티노스 및 팔라티노스 시럽에 대한 in vitro 변이원성 시험)

  • Palatinose is a disaccharide molecule which can substitute sucrose as a sweetening agent. A microbial fermentation technology has been developed to produce palatinose. In order to verify the safety of palatinose products, we have performed 1) bacterial reverse mutation test using Salmonella typhimurium TA1535, TA1537, TA98 and TA100, and 2) in vitro chromosome aberration test using Chinese Hamster Lung (CHL) cell. In bacterial reverse mutation test, both palatinose and palatinose syrup did not induce any significant increase of $His^{+}$ revertants up to 10 mg/plate. In in vitro chromosome aberration test, palatinose and palatinose syrup also did not cause any significant increase of chromosome aberrant cells up to 5 mg/mL. These results suggest that palatinose products have no mutagenic potential in these in vitro mutagenicity tests.

Effects of Tape Thickness and Inorganic Fillers on the Adhesion Properties of Double-sided Acrylic Adhesive Tape by Ultraviolet Curing (자외선 경화형 아크릴 양면 점착테이프의 두께 및 무기물 충전제 종류에 따른 접착특성)

  • To manufacture of high-performance semi-structural double-sided adhesive tape, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (2-EHA) and acrylic acid (AAC) were used, and the syrup was prepared by UV irradiation in this study. The effects of the thickness, various inorganic filler contents, and filler types on the semi-structural properties of acrylic double-sided adhesive tape were investigated. The peel strength increased with increasing thickness and wetting time. In case of the thin thickness (under $250{\mu}m$) with decreasing true density of inorganic filler, the peel strength increased with increasing wetting time. The initial peel strength showed a higher value at a big size of inorganic filler, and the filler's size in adhesive tapes was confirmed by SEM images. The peel strength and dynamic shear strength increased as a proportional relationship with various inorganic fillers and contents, and these inorganic fillers in $0.1{\mu}m$ thickness indicated more effect on the dynamic shear strength of double-sided adhesive tape. From these results the thin acrylic double-sided adhesive tape determined to be use for applications as a high-performance semi-structural.

Development of Ultrafine Angelica Powder-Added Syrup (초미세 당귀분말 첨가 시럽의 제조 기술 개발)

  • Angelicae gigantis Radix (dried root of Angelica gigas) including major bioactives such as decursin and decursinol angelate provides rich flavors and several healthy benefits. Recent studies have shown that ultrafine powders of herbal medicines provide better physical properties and biological activities. Thus, ultrafine Angelica powder was added into the oligosaccharide syrup to provide flavors and healthy benefits in this study. Angelicae gigantis Radix was pulverized into d(0.1) = 3.220, d(0.5) = 7.822, and d(0.9) = 7.817 $\mu$m respectively using an air-flow mill. The ultrafine Angelica powder was added into the oligosaccharide syrup process with different ratios of water to oligosaccharide syrup at 1:5, 1:8, 1:11, and 1:14. The physicochemical properties such as viscosity and bulk density were measured. The Stokes' law was applied to predict the sedimentation velocity of the added Angelica powder in the syrup. The Angelica syrup prepared in this experiment showed good stability since the Angelica particles precipitated down slowly. The ratio of water to oligosaccharide syrup at 1:11 showed the optimal preparation in terms of the stability and the viscosity. The ultrafine-sized herbal powders such as Angelicae gigantis Radix have potentials for various food and pharmaceutical applications.

Production Process and Physiochemical Characterization of Low-sugar Yuzu Syrup (대체 감미료를 활용한 저당 유자 시럽 제조 및 이화학적 특성 조사)

  • Yuzu (Citrus junos) undergoes traditional processing to create preserved yuzu with a sugar content of 50%. This study aimed to produce low-sugar yuzu syrup using artificial or natural sweeteners instead of sugar. Among artificial sweeteners, maltitol showed minimal browning and lack of deposition at high temperatures. The addition of xanthan gum (0.2%) and carboxymethyl cellulose (0.2%) resolved the issue of layer separation and viscosity decrease of yuzu syrup. Alternatively, grain syrup, a natural sweetener, improved viscosity and homogeneity without the additives. Yuzu syrups were developed using yuzu juice and preserved yuzu, with maltitol (20~40%) or grain syrup (50~70%) as the sweetener. Yuzu syrups containing 35% maltitol (M35) or 55% grain syrup (G55) had less than 5% and 10% free sugar, respectively. These syrups exhibited taste patterns similar to commercial yuzu syrup in analysis using an electronic tongue. Furthermore, M35 and G55 contained yuzu flavonoids at concentrations of 19.82 mg/g and 24.09 mg/g, respectively. Antioxidant activity (DPPH, ABTS radical scavenging) of M35 and G55 was equivalent to 10.55, 17.59 mg/100 g of Vitamin C and 97.39, 33.92 mg/100 g of Vitamin C, respectively. Consequently, M35 and G55 offer promising alternatives to preserved yuzu, providing low-sugar yuzu syrups enriched with functional ingredients.

Difference of malodor according to intake of coffee with syrup or without syrup : Case report (시럽 여부에 따른 커피 섭취 후 구취 수치의 차이 : 증례보고)

  • The coffee demand market in Korea is growing every year, and the adults drink an average of one cup of coffee every day. In order to investigate the effect of coffee on oral malodor, 15 Korean subjects were recruited. There were no significant differences in the values of oral malodor using BB checker(Taiyo, Japan) in the factors of sex, smoking, drinking, feeling oral malodor by themselves, feeling oral malodor by others, periodic scaling, activity of Streptococcus mutans, bleeding on probing, and coffee drinking habits. Patient hygiene performance index, calculus index, index of coat on the tongue, toothbrushing time, toothbrushing frequency had no correlation with oral malodor. The difference between before and after drinking coffee with syrup(17.93±16.54) was significant, but the difference between before and after drinking coffee without syrup(1.13±14.75) was not significant. We suggested the cause of oral malodor after drinking coffee was syrup, but not coffee.

Wheel Balance Cancer Therapy in the Treatment of Metastatic Gastric Carcinoma : A Retrospective Analysis of 62 Patients (수레바퀴 암 치료법을 시행받은 진행성 위암환자 62명에 대한 후향적 코호트 분석)

  • Backgrounds : Gastric cancer is one of the most frequent causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Gastric cancer patients frequently exhibit distant metastasis at the time of diagnosis and at present, there is no standard regimen after operation or chemotherapy to prevent metastasis and recurrences. Aims : The objective of the study was to compare the overall survival and disease free survival in patients treated with wheel balance therapy (WBT) with patients treated with WBT alone or the combination of WBT and conventional therapy and see if there were any significant improvements in survival between the two groups. Setting & Design : East-West Cancer Center at Daejeon University: retrospective study. Materials & Methods : We retrospectively analyzed 62 patients with stage III (40 patients) and stage IV (22 patients) gastric cancer who have received operation or chemotherapy 2 months prior to beginning WBT. The patients followed the WBT protocol which includes herbal medicine such as PSM capsules, OnePlus syrup, or HAD capsules which prevent metastasis and recurrences. Overall survival and disease free survival were analyzed and the patients were treated for 89.55 weeks and 49.27 weeks (median value) for stages III and IV, respectively. Statistical analysis used : Overall survival and disease free survival were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and the WBT and combination treatment arms were compared using the log rank test. Results : For stage III, the 3 year overall survival was 78.5% and disease free survival was 78.3%. Metastasis and recurrence occurred in 13 of 40 patients (32.5%). For stage IV, the 2 year overall survival was 18.2% and disease free survival was also 18.2%. Metastasis and recurrence occurred in 19 of 22 patients (86.4%). No significant difference was found statistically between the WBT alone and combination treatment arms though the combination regimen showed superiority (overall survival p=0.5093, disease free survival p=0.5175). Conclusions : WBT yielded satisfactory results in prolonging survival and preventing metastasis and recurrence in gastric cancer patients. The major treatment unit of WBT is composed of herbal medications (HAD, PSM capsules, OnePlus syrup) and a randomized, prospective study should be carried out using only this treatment unit in the future.
