  • It is important to understand the patterns of forest fire in terms of effective prevention and suppression activities. In this study, the monthly forest fire occurrences and their burned areas were investigated to enhance the understanding of the patterns of forest fire in Korea. The statistics of forest fires in Korea, 1970 through 2005, built by Korea Forest Service was analyzed by using time series analysis technique to fit ARIMA models proposed by Box-Jenkins. The monthly differences in forest fire characteristics were clearly distinguished, with 59% of total forest fire occurrences and 72% of total burned area being in March and April. ARIMA(1, 0, 1) was the best fitted model to both the fire accurrences and the burned area time series. The fire time series have a strong relation to the fire occurrences and the burned area of 1 month and 12 months before.

  • In this study, a time series analysis technique was applied to calibrate and predict traffic data for various purposes, such as planning, design, maintenance, and research. Existing algorithms have limitations in application to data such as traffic data because they show strong periodicity and seasonality or irregular data. To overcome and supplement these limitations, we applied the SARIMA model, an analytical technique that combines the autocorrelation model, the Seasonal Auto Regressive(SAR), and the seasonal Moving Average(SMA). According to the analysis, traffic volume prediction using the SARIMA(4,1,3)(4,0,3) 12 model, which is the optimal parameter combination, showed excellent performance of 85% on average. In addition to traffic data, this study is considered to be of great value in that it can contribute significantly to traffic correction and forecast improvement in the event of missing traffic data, and is also applicable to a variety of time series data recently collected.

  • With a rapid growth in the Internet technology, the network traffic is increasing swiftly. As for the increase of traffic, it had a large influence on performance of a total network. Therefore, a traffic management became an important issue of network management. In this paper, we study a forecast plan of network traffic in order to analyze network traffic and to establish efficient correspondence. We use time series forecast models and determine fitness whether the model can forecast network traffic exactly. In order to predict a model, AR, MA, ARMA, and ARIMA must be applied. The suitable model can be found that can express the nature of traffic for the forecast among these models. We determines whether it is satisfied with stationary in the assumption step of the model. The stationary can get the results by using ACF(Auto Correlation Function) and PACF(Partial Auto Correlation Function). If the result of this function cannot satisfy then the forecast model is unsuitable. Therefore, we are going to get the correct model that is to satisfy stationary assumption. So, we proposes a way to classify in order to get time series materials to satisfy stationary. The correct prediction method is managed traffic of a network with a way to be better than now. It is possible to manage traffic dynamically if it can be used.

  • Manpower demand forecasting in private security industry can be used for both policy and information function. At a time when police agencies have fewer resources to accomplish their goals, forming partnership with private security firms should be a viable means to choose. But without precise understanding of each other, their partnership could be superficial. At the same time, an important debate is coming out whether security industry will continue to expand in numbers of employees, or level-off in the near future. Such debates are especially important for young people considering careers in private security industry. Recently, ARIMA model has been widely used as a reliable instrument in the many field of industry for demand forecasting. An ARIMA model predicts a value in a response time series as a linear combination of its own past values, past errors, and current and past values of other time series. This study conducts a short-term forecast of manpower demand in private security industry using ARIMA model. After obtaining yearly data of private security officers from 1976 to 2008, this paper are forecasting future trends and proposing some policy orientations. The result shows that ARIMA(0, 2, 1) model is the most appropriate one and forecasts a minimum of 137,387 to maximum 190,124 private security officers will be needed in 2013. The conclusions discuss some implications and predictable changes in policing and coping strategies public police and private security can take.

  • The paper introduces bottom-up and optimal combination methods that can analyze and forecast hierarchical time series. These methods allow forecasts at lower levels to be summed consistently to upper levels without any ad-hoc adjustment. They can also potentially improve forecast performance in comparison to independent forecasts. We forecast regional traffic accident counts as time series data in order to identify efficiency gains from hierarchical forecasting. We observe that bottom-up or optimal combination methods are superior to independent methods in terms of forecast accuracy.

  • Wind energy is one of the rapidly developing renewable energies which is being developed and invested in response to climate change. As renewable energy policies and power plant installations are promoted, the supply of wind power in Korea is gradually expanding and attempts to accurately predict demand are expanding. In this paper, the ARIMA and ARIMAX models which are Time series techniques and the SVR, Random Forest and XGBoost models which are machine learning models were compared and analyzed to predict wind power generation in the Jeonnam and Gyeongbuk regions. Mean absolute error (MAE) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) were used as indicators to compare the predicted results of the model. After subtracting the hourly raw data from January 1, 2018 to October 24, 2020, the model was trained to predict wind power generation for 168 hours from October 25, 2020 to October 31, 2020. As a result of comparing the predictive power of the models, the Random Forest and XGBoost models showed the best performance in the order of Jeonnam and Gyeongbuk. In future research, we will try not only machine learning models but also forecasting wind power generation based on data mining techniques that have been actively researched recently.

  • In recent years with high interest rates and inflations, which worsen people's lives, voice phishing crimes also increase along with damage. Voice phishing that becomes more evolved by technology developments causes serious financial and mental damage to victims. This work aims to study time series models for its accurate prediction. ARIMA, SARIMA and SARIMAX models are compared. As exogenous variables, the amount of damages and the numbers of arrests and criminals are adopted. Forecasting performances are evaluated. Prediction intervals are constructed along with empirical coverages, which justify the superiority of the model. Finally, the numbers of voice phishing up to December 2024 are predicted, through which we expect the establishment of future prevention strategies for voice phishing.
