Comparison of the Hydrolysis Rate of Several Polyol Ester Oils as a Candidate for Environmentally Adapted Synthetic Base Oil (환경친화적인 합성기유 후보물질로서의 몇가지 폴리올에스터 오일의 가수분해속도 비교)

  • The hydrolysis rates of seven kinds of polyol ester base oils 〔POEs〕 of different branch shape were investigated by using a simple apparatus under mild acidic condition. Seven polyol ester base oils were made of poly hydric alcohols of two-four valence, normal or branched fatty acids of different carbon number. p-Toluene sulfonic acid was used as acid catalyst to accelerate the rate of hydrolysis. Partial esters and fatty acid produced by sequential hydrolysis of POEs were identified and their concentrations were determined by calibrated-internal standard method using Gas Chromatography. The rate constants of each step in sequential hydrolysis were determined by the least square method from rate equation and the concentration of each component, were compared with one another. It was shown that the rate of hydrolysis of POEs was strongly affected by whether molecular structure of fatty acid was straight chain or branch chain and which position was branched. The hydrolysis stability for all the POEs can be reasonably explained by using a steric hindrance effect anticipated fi:om their molecular structures affecting as water molecule makes an attack on the carbonyl carbon of POEs.

A Study on Electrolysis of Heavy Water and Interaction of Hydrogen with Lattice Defects in Palladium Electrodes (팔라디움전극에서 중수소의 전기분해와 수소와 격자결함의 반응에 관한 연구)

  • Excess tritium analysis was peformed to verify whether or not cold fusion occurs during electrolysis of heavy water in the current density range of 83~600 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for a period of 24 ~ 48 hours with use of palladium electrodes of seven different processing treatments and geometries. The extent of recombination of D$_2$ and $O_2$gases in the electrolytic cell was measured for the calculation of accurate enthaplpy values. The behavior and interaction of hydrogen atoms with defects in Pd electrodes were examined using the Sieverts gas charging and the positron annihilation(PA) method. Slight enrichment of tritium observed was attributed to electrolytic enrichment but not to the formation of a by-product of cold fusion. The extent of recombination of D$_2$and $O_2$gases was 32%. Hence the excess heat measured during the electrolysis was considered to be due to the exothermic reaction of recombination but not to nuclear fusion. Lifetime results from the PA measurements on the Pd electrodes indicated that hydrogen atoms could be trapped at dislocations and vacancies in the electrodes and that dislocations were slightly more preferred sites than vacancies. It was also inferred from R parameters that the formation of hydrides was accompanied by generation of mostly dislocations. Doppler broadening results of the Pd electrodes indicated that lattiec defect sites where positrons were trapped first increased and then decreased, and this cycle was repeated as electrolysis continued. It can be inferred from PA measurements on the cold-rolled Pd and the isochronally annealed Pd hydride specimens that microvoid-type defects existed in the hydrogen-charged electrode specimen.

Fabrication and optimization of ethylene-producing tablet (에틸렌 발생 tablet 제조 및 활성 최적 조건 구명)

  • Ethylene ($C_2H_4$) is a naturally occurring hormone in some fruit. This study was carried out to manufacture ethylene-producing tablets. The Ethylene-producing tablets were manufactured from ethephon and excipient mixtures, including Prosolv, Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) and Crosscamellose. Ethylene production increased with the increases in temperature. In the aspect of pH condition, ethylene productions at pH 7.0 and pH 9.0 were less than 2 ppm. On the other hand, at pH 13.0, ethylene production from the Prosolv, HPMC, and Crosscamellose tablets was 94.05, 126.28, and 100.11 ppm, respectively. The friability of the Prosolv and HPMC tablets were 0.1 and 0.3%, respectively, while the Crosscamellose tablet was 54.1%. indicating that the Crosscarmellose tablet was not appropriate as an ethylene production tablet. In addition, there were huge variations in disintegration times; the Prosolv, Crosscamelose, and HPMC tablets took 1, 5 min, and 7 min more than respectively. Ethylene production was gradually increased up to 20 hr for the Prosolv tablet and then remained stable.

방전플라즈마 소결법으로 제조한 Mo-Cu 합금 소결체의 물성 및 전기적 특성에 관한 연구

  • Mo-Cu 합금은 고강도이고 우수한 열전도성 및 전기전도성를 가지는 특성이 있어 현재 방열소재, 반도체 부품, 자동차 부품 등 여러 응용분야에서 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 서로 고용성이 없는 Mo-Cu 합금을 제조하기 위해서 Mo, Cu 분말을 PBM (Planetary Ball Milling) 방법을 이용하여 제조 하였으며, 제조된 분말은 SPS (Spark Plasma Sintering) 공정을 이용하여 소결체를 제조하였다. Mo-Cu의 조성 변화는 Cu의 함유량을 각각 5at%Cu, 10at%Cu, 20at%Cu로 조절하여 수행하였으며, PBM 의 공정 변수로 회전수(RPM), 볼과 분말의 비율, 분산제의 양, 볼밀 시간, 분위기 변화를 주어 최적조건을 얻기 위한 실험을 진행하였다. PBM 방법을 이용하여 제조한 분말은 PSA (Particle Size Analysis)에 의해 분말의 크기를 측정하고 EDS(Energy Disperse X-ray Spectrometer) 분석에 의해 조성을 확인하였으며, XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) 분석에 의해 Cu peak이 사라지는 조건을 PBM의 최적조건으로 잡고 실험을 진행하였다. 소결체를 고밀도화하기 위해 소결공정을 SPS 방식으로 하였으며 소결체의 경도, 내마모성, 마찰계수 일함수 등을 분석하기 위해 소결체의 크기를 직경 30 mm 및 두께 5 mm로 설계하였고, 소결 공정 변수로 소결온도를 각각 $900^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$, $1100^{\circ}C$, 소결압력을 50MPa, 60MPa, 70MPa, 유지시간을 0분, 10분, 20분으로 차이를 주어, 소결체의 밀도차이와 물성차이를 분석하였다. 그 결과 PBM의 최적조건으로는 5at%Cu 에서는 10h, 10at%Cu, 20at%Cu 에서는 20h의 최적의 밀링 시간을 확인하였고, 다른 공정 변수의 최적조건으로는 회전수 300RPM, 10:1의 볼과 분말 비, 분산제 4wt%, Ar 분위기라는 조건을 얻을 수 있었다. 각각의 공정변수 변화에 따른 소결체 최적밀도 달성조건, 소결체 물성 및 전기적 특성 등의 상관관계에 관하여 보고한다.

Quality Characteristics of JungKwa Made with Ginseng by Different Manufacturing Methods (제조방법을 달리한 수삼 정과의 품질 특성)

  • Making jungkwa, a traditional Korean snack, is difficult and complicated. In this study, a rice cooker was used to simplify the process of making jungkwa made with ginseng. Comparing ginseng jungkwa cooked in a rice cooker with the control group cooked in a traditional way, their chewiness, browness, glossy and overall preference were similar when cooked for 160 minutes, 175 minutes, 190 minutes, 205 minutes, and 220 minutes. The moisture content of ginseng jungkwa cooked in a rice cooker decreased, while its sugar content increased with increased cooking time. Also, the ginseng jungkwa had lower lightness and higher redness and yellowness as its cooking time got longer. The ginseng jungkwa cooked for 205 minutes was most similar to the one cooked in a traditional way. In the measurement of texture, the ginseng jungkwa had higher hardness with increased cooking time, and, when cooked for 205 minutes, it was most similar to the one cooked in a traditional way in chewiness. The sensory evaluation showed that the one cooked for 205 minutes was most preferred in appearance, smell, taste, texture and overall preference. Based on these results, this study revealed that using a rice cooker can be substituted for the traditional way of making jungkwa.

Preparation and Physical Properties of High-Solid Coatings by Acrylic Resins and Hexamethylene Diisocyanate-Biuret (아크릴수지와 헥사메틸렌 디이소시아네이트-뷰렛에 의한 고 고형분 도료의 제조 및 도막물성 연구)

  • Acrylic resins (ethyl methacrylate-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate-n-butyl acrylate-acrylic acid EHBCs) containing 80% of solid were synthesized. Then, high-solid coatings (ethyl methacrylate-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate-n-butyl acrylate-acrylic acid/hexamethylene diisocyanate-biuret : EHBCNs) were prepared by curing of the acrylic resin with curing agent hexamethylene diisocyanate-biuret at room temperature. The cure time of prepared coatings EHBCN-4 (EHBC-4 : $T_{g}$ = $0^{\circ}C$) and EHBCN-7 (EHBC-7 : $T_{g}$ = 3$0^{\circ}C$), measured by rigid-body pendulum method, was recorded 6.2 hours and 4.5 hours, respectively. Dynamic viscoelastic experiment revealed the glass transition temperature of EHBCN-4 and EHBCN-7 to be $14^{\circ}C$ and $39^{\circ}C$, respectively. It was found that the adhesion and flexural properties among various properties of coatings were enhanced by the incorporation of caprolactone acrylate monomer into the acrylic resins.

Optimization of Ramen Flour Formulation by Mixture Experimental Design (혼합물실험설계법에 의한 라면 밀가루 혼합비의 최적화)

  • Ramen flour formulation was optimized by applying a mixture experimental design. In the optimization, the overall palatability (OP) of cooked ramen and the rheological properties of selected dough were maximized or minimized. Blended ratios of the ingredients such as Dark Northern Spring (DNS), Hard Red Winter (HRW), and Soft White (SW) were designed on a simplex-lattice. Dough rheological properties were measured by Rapid Visco Analyser (RVA), Farinograph, and Extensograph, and the overall palatability by sensory evaluation. Several principal dough rheological properties such as RVA peak viscosity (PV), Farinograph development time (DT), and Extensograph resistance/extensibility after 45 min (R/E 45 min) were selected to influence the overall palatability by canonical correlation analysis (CCA). Goals of the optimization were given as OP maximized, PV maximized, DT minimized, and R/E at 45 min maximized. The optimization results were found to be DNS 33.3%, HRW 33.3%, and SW 33.3% with OP, 5.825; PV, 587.9 cP; DT, 3.1 min; R/E at 45 min, 2.339 BU/mm.

Effect of Proteolytic Enzyme on the Unhairing Degree of Pelt (나피의 탈모율에 미치는 단백질 분해 효소의 효과)

  • The effect of proteolytic enzyme on the unhairing process has been studied. this enzyme significantly changed the physical properties of pelt for leather shoes. A SEM was used to examine physical properties of the pelt. Even though bio-tech treatment using proteolytic enzyme slightly reduced the degree of unhairing compared to chemical treatment. Physical property of the pelt is better and this method is environmentally favorable. $H_{2}S$ gas produced in the chemical treatment was not detected and the value of COD and BOD for waste water after the unhairing process were reduced to 939 mg/L and 5268 mg/L, respectively. We found that a process with 0.4~0.5% proteolytic enzyme for 20 h at $29{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ is most suitable for the unhairing process.

Degradation of Pesticides in Wastewater Using Plasma Process Coupled with Photocatalyst (광촉매를 병합한 플라즈마 공정을 이용한 폐수에 함유된 살충제 분해)

  • Nonthermal plasma hybridized with photocatalysts is proven to be an effective tool to degrade toxic organics in wastewater. In this study, a specially designed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma system combined with photocatalysts was applied to decompose pestiticides such as dichlorovos, carbofuran and methidathon, which are frequently used in the golf courses and the orange plantations. The degradations of the pesticides in single and coupled systems were evaluated. The single system was used with ozone plasma which consisted of electrons, radicals, ions produced by oxygen gas and air, with and without ultra-violet (UV) irradiation, respectively. The coupled systems utilized the air-derived ozone plasma combined with zinc oxide, titanium dioxide and graphite oxide photocatalyst activated by UV. The graphite oxide was synthesized by a modified Hummer's method and characterized using FTIR spectrometer. It was elucidated that the plasma reaction with graphite oxide (0.01 g/L) brought about almost 100% of degradation degrees for dichlorovos and carbofuran in 60 min, as compared with the performances showed by no catalyst condition. The photocatalyst-hybridized plasma in the presence of UV irradiation was proven to be an effective alternative for degrading pesticides.

Feasibility of Dacryoscintigraphy in Normal Dogs (정상 개에서 누비공신티그라피의 적용)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of dacryoscintigraphy with Tc-99 m Pertechnetate, which is useful in functional nasolacrimal duct obstruction diagnosis in human medical science, by applying it to normal dogs. Dacryoscintigraphy was performed on six clinically healthy beagle dogs to confirm normal passage of their lacrimal ducts. The scintigraphic images of both lacrimal system were obtained at 5 min, 10 min, and 20 min after Tc-99 m Pertechnetate administration, respectively. If lacrimal duct does not come into view within 20 min, delayed images at 30min, 45min and 60 min were gained. After drawing ROI of left and right canaliculus, lacrimal sac, and nasolacrimal duct acquired after dacryoscintigraphy, we measured each counting rate and developed a counting rate table for each time interval. Of the total of 12 places, 10 (83.3%) showed patency within 20 min, and 11 (91.6%) showed patency within 30 min. In one dog, a functional obstruction of right lacrimal canal was observed. Dacryoscintigraphy could provide useful information about functional and anatomical lacrimal duct obstruction in veterinary medicine as well as in clinical research.
