It is important to retrieve effectively the visual media such as pictures and video in the internet, especially to the application areas such as electronic art museum, e-commerce, and internet shopping malls. It is also needed in these areas to have content-based or even semantic-based multimedia retrieval instead of simple keyword-based retrieval. In our earlier research, we proposed a semantic-based visual media retrieval framework for the effective retrieval of the visual media from the internet. It uses visual media metadata and ontology based on the web service to achieve the semantic-based retrieval. In this research, there are more than one visual media service providers and one central service broker. As a preliminary step to the visual media data retrieval, a method is proposed to retrieve the service providers effectively. The method uses the structure of the ontology tree to obtain the providers and their rankings. It also uses the size of sub nodes and child nodes in the tree. It measures the rankings of providers more effectively than previous method. The experimental results show the accuracy of the method while keeping compatible speed against the existing method.

Information retrieval is one of the most challenging areas in which the ontology technology is effectively used. Among them image retrieval using the image meta data and ontology is the one that can substitute the keyword-based image retrieval. In the paper, the retrieval of visual media such as the art image and photo picture is handled. It is assumed that there are more than one service providers of the visual media and also there is one central service broker that mediates the user's query. Given the user's query the first step that must be done in the service broker is to get the list of candidate service providers that fit the query. This is done by defining various ontologies such as the service ontology and matching the query against the ontology and providers. A novel matching method based on the ASN.1. The experiment shows that the method is more effective than existing tree-based and interval-based methods. Ontology merging issue is also handled that can happen when the service providers register their service into the service broker. An effective method is also proposed.

최근 멀티미디어 데이터로부터 내용에 대한 정보를 추출하여 데이터베이스에 저장하고 내용에 기반한 질의를 수행하도록 하는 내용 기반 검색 시스템이 중요한 핵심 기술로 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 내용 기반 멀티미디어 검색 시스템인 COSMIC(Content Based Multimedia Information Processor)의 설계 및 구현에 관하여 기술한다. COSMIC은 대용량 이미지 데이터로부터 자동으로 추출된 시각적 특징 데이터들을 다차원 점접근 방법(Point Access Method)인 HG-트리를 이용하여 색인하고 예제 이미지와 사용자가 그린 스케치에 의한 시각적 질의를 제공한다. 또한 COSMIC은 비디오 데이터로부터 추출된 다양한 의미 정보를 이용하여 의미 질의를 제공한다. COSMIC의 유효성을 입증하기 위해서 다양한 시각적 질의와 이미 질의를 이용한 실험을 수행하였다.

본 논문에서는 시간의 변화에 따른 공간적 변화론 갖는 움직임 객체를 효과적으로 검색하기 위한 모델링 및 검색 기법을 제안한다. 멀티미디어 데이터에 포함된 움직임 객체는 객체의 움직임 방향뿐만 아니라 객체의 공간적인 크기 변화가 매우 중요하다. 제안하는 모델링에서는 객체의 공간적인 위치를 MBR로 표면하고 MBR의 변화에 따른 객체의 궤적 정보를 표현하여 이를 통한 다양한 검색을 수행한다. 또한 객체가 속한 프레임의 시각적인 특징과 객체의 시각적인 특징 변화를 표현하여 이를 통한 시각적인 유사도 검색을 지원한다.

인터넷 기술의 발달과 디지털 카메라와 같은 디지털 미디어 생산 장비의 발달로 WWW에 이미지 데이터의 양이 급격하게 늘어나면서 웹 이미지에 대한 효율적인 검색에 대한 요구가 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사용자의 다양한 검색 요구를 만족시킬 수 있도록 기존의 텍스트 기반의 검색과 시각 정보 기반의 검색을 병합하여 수행할 수 있는 웹 이미지 검색 시스템을 설계하고 구현한다. 제안한 웹 이미지 검색 시스템은 웹 이미지 수집 및 검색정보 추출 도구. 검색 서버. 그리고 검색 클라이언트로 구성된다. 웹 이미지 수집 및 검색 정보 추출 도구는 웹에서 이미지를 수집하여 이미지가 속해있는 웹 문서 구조를 이용하여 적절한 키워드를 선택하며 시각 정보 기반의 검색을 지원하기 위해 MPEG-7 시각 정보 기술자(1)를 추출한다. 빠른 검색을 위해 추출된 텍스트 정보는 상용 데이터베이스에 저장되며 MPEG-7 시각 정보 기술자는 고차원 데이터 색인 방법인 HBI (Hierarchical Bitmap Index)(2)를 사용하여 색인 정보를 만들어 사용한다. 검색 클라이언트는 사용자가 각 검색 요소에 가중치를 부여하여 검색 할 수 있도록 하며 원하는 검색 결과를 얻을 때까지 반복하여 검색할 수 있는 연관 피드백 과정도 포함한다.

지금까지의 라디오는 대부분 음성중심의 프로그램을 전송하였지만 DMB로 개념화되는 라디오와 디지털 기술의 접목은 지금까지 제한적이던 멀티미디어데이터서비스를 확대시키면서 라디오에 시각성을 부여하고 있다. 라디오에 부여되는 시각성은 지금까지의 청각성보다 훨씬 중요한 의미를 가지게 되었다. 이런 추세에 맞춰서 방송 서비스에 대한 멀티미디어데이터서비스 검색 시스템도 시각성을 중심으로 새롭게 재구성되어야 할 필요성이 대두되었다. DMB서비스는 제공되는 콘텐츠에 대해 각기 다른 콘텐츠 정보가 존재하고 이러한 정보를 이용하여 사용자가 원하는 서비스를 비친, 검색하는 방법으로 변화하여야 한다. 본 논문에서는 DMB MOT를 이용하여 MPEG-21 디지털 아이템 메타데이터를 전송하고, 전송된 메타데이터를 이용하여 단말기에 사용자가 원하는 디지털 아이템의 정보를 보여줄 수 있는 브라우징 시스템을 설계하고자 한다.

이미지 데이터베이스를 구성하여 사용자가 원하는 정보를 추출하는 의미 기반 검색을 지원하기 위해서는 이미지 내용에 관한 의미 정보들이 데이터 모델로 구조화되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 정적 이미지 내용 정보들에 대한 내용 기반 검색과 의미 기반 검색을 제공하는 이미지 데이터 모델을 소개하고 이를 이용하여 이미지가 담고 있는 의미 정보를 표현하고 데이터베이스 스키마로 변환하여 저장하는 구조와 검색하는 방법을 소개한다. 본 이미지 데이터 모델은 이미지내에 포함된 시각 객체들의 내용 정보를 그래프 구조로 표현하고 객체들간의 의미 관계를 정의한다. 이는 이미지 내용에 대한 정확한 정보 표현과 질의와 검색을 가능하게 한다.

최근 멀티미디어 정보를 기술하기 위한 표준인 MPEG-7이 제안되어 이미지/동영상 검색 시스템과 같은 응용분야에서 사용되기 시작하였다. 그러나 MPEG-7 시각 정보 기술자들은 대부분 고차원으로 표현되고 기술자들이 가지는 각 속성들의 성질이 서로 동일하지 않기 때문에 기존의 인덱싱 방법으로는 효율적인 검색을 할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-7 시각 정보 기술자중에서 많이 사용되는 Dominant Color 기술자와 Contour Shape 기술자에 대한 새로운 인덱싱 알고리즘을 제안한다. Dominant Color 기술자에서 사용되는 비 교 연산 식 은 가우스 혼합 모델에 기초하고 있기 때문에, 기술자의 각 속성들을 하냐의 칼라 히스토그램 형태로 변형시켜서 인덱스로 사용한다. Contour Shape기술자는 2 단계 형태의 알고리즘을 사용한다. 각 단계는 글로벌 파라미터 속성과 비트맵 인덱스를 사용한 인덱싱이 적용된다. 제안된 인덱싱 방법을 사용했을 때 Dominant Color의 경우 90%의 정확도에 120배 이상의 속도 향상을 나타냈고, Contour Shape의 경우 82%의 정확도에 3배 이상의 속도 향상을 나타냈다.

With the rapid increase of the number of multimedia contents, people consume a lot of multimedia contents through various distribution channels. Content-based image retrieval uses visual features that represent the contents of images. And users can retrieve or filter images based on the contents of the images using the features. But, the editing of the multimedia contents distorts the original visual features of the multimedia contents, thereby the performance of content-based image retrieval system could be lowered. In this paper, we describe the image editing effects that lower the performance of the retrieval system and propose algorithms that can remove the image editing effect and improve content-based image retrieval system.

이미지와 비디오 등 시각 미디어를 분산 환경에서 효율적으로 검색하는 HERMES시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템에서는 서비스 중계자(Broker)와 서비스 제공자(Provider) 사이에 효과적인 서비스 검색을 위하여 온톨로지를 이용한다. 비주얼 미디어 검색을 위한 서비스 온톨로지와 서비스 ID 부여 방법을 소개한다. 온톨로지를 이용한 추론으로서 기존의 매치메이킹 방법을 살펴보고 본 시스템에서 제안된 ASN.1에 기반한 추론 방법을 소개한다.
