A Study on the Biogasification of Municipal and Industrial Wastewater Sludge (도시 하수 및 공장 폐수 슬러지의 바이오가스화에 관한 연구)

  • Anaerobic digestion was investigated for the stabilization of sludge, decrease of volatile solids, production of biogas for wastewater sludge. In this study, total solids and volatile solids, elemental analysis were conducted to determine characteristics of various types of sludges and investigate the feasibility of biogas production of Municipal Wastewater Sludge (MWS), Industrial Wastewater Sludge (IWS), mixed sludge (Mix), and Municipal Wastewater Sludg Cake (MWSC). Total solids, volatile solids, and C/N ratio were determined in the range of 11.2~20.6 %, 62.1~83.1 % of TS and 4.96~8.33 %. Using the biochemical methane potential (BMP test), mixed sludge and wastewater sludge finished the methane production within approximately 20 day and 16~17 day. Sludge cake finished within 10 day. Mixed sludge produced 395.5 mL $CH_4$ per g of Volatile Solid (VS) and resulted in the highest methane production. For carbon dioxide production, five sludges had similar value of accumulated carbon dioxide production except for sludge cake.

A Study on the Combustion Characteristics of the Small Scale Cyclone Incinerate System for Sludge (슬러지용 소형 사이클론 소각 시스템의 연소특성에 대한 연구)

  • The performance of the small scale cyclone incinerate system (100kg/hr) to process the sewage sludge containing high moisture is evaluated. The incinerate system design is based on properties of the domestic sewage sludge. The combustion characteristics of the incinerate system is tested and analyzed with the various operation conditions of the moisture level, the sludge feed rate and the auxiliary fuel feed rate. The pressure loss of the whole system is appeared relatively small of 700mmAq under the normal operating condition and the temperature distribution of the incinerator internal combustion is maintained less than 1000C. Auxiliary fuel of 4.7 1/hr is required to incinerate 100kg sludge which include 87% moisture. Because the inside temperature of the incinerator is maintained less than $1000^{\circ}C$, it is predicted that the most NOx measured is produced not from the heat during the combustion process but from the oxidation of the N ingredient in the sludge. From the component analysis of ash, the organic matter is not entirely detected. Accordingly, it is estimated that the complete combustion has been accomplished in the incinerator.

  • 본 연구에서는 산발효산물과 하수슬러지의 혼합소화를 위한 적정 혼합비를 도출을 위하여 음식물찌꺼기 고온 산발효산물과 하수슬러지의 생분해 특성과 적정혼합비를 도출하고자 수행한 결과 음식물찌꺼기 고온 산발효액과 하수슬러지를 혼합비별로 회분식 혼합소화 실험을 실시 한 결과 혼합비 1:1에서 385ml CH$_4$/g VS$_{added}$로 가장 높은 메탄발생량을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과는 음식물찌꺼기와 하수슬러지를 1:1로 동일하게 혼합하여 비교 소화실험을 실시했을 때 의 293m1 CH$_4$/g VS$_{added}$와 비교하여 상대적으로 높은 메 탄발생량을 나타내었다.

  • 현재 RPF 생산공정에서 생산된 RPF는 약 7,500~8,500kcal/kg 의 높은 열량을 지니고 있다. 이러한 특성으로 연소시 소각로 내부의 온도가 부분적으로 급격히 상승하여 적정온도조절이 어렵고, 로내 장치들의 내구성이 저하되는 등 문제가 발생하고 있다. 또한, RPF에 포함된 비교적 높은 농도의 염소 함량(0.8~1.8% wt)으로 인해 다량의 대기오염물질이 발생되는 단점이 나타나고 있다. 따라서, 이러한 문제점들을 개선하기 위해 RPF의 개질이 필요하며 본 연구에서는 슬러지와 RPF를 혼합하여 열량, 성형성, 염소함량등을 고려하여 최적의 혼합비율을 선정하였다. J하수처리장에서 발생하는 하수슬러지를 이용하여 5, 15, 25, 30, 35%를 RPF 성형공정에 혼합하여 실험하였다. 5% 혼합시 발열량은 약 6,300~6,800kcal/kg, 염소농도는 0.8~1.6%(wt), 15% 혼합시 발열량은 5,500~6,000kcal/kg, 염소농도는 0.7~1.4%(wt), 25% 혼합시 발열량은 5,200~5,900kcal/kg, 염소농도는 0.6~1.1%(wt), 30% 혼합시 발열량은 5,000~5,700kcal/kg, 염소농도는 0.6~1.0%(wt), 35% 혼합시 발열량은 4,800~5,200kcal/kg, 염소농도는 0.4~0.6%(wt)으로 나타났다. 각 혼합비율에서 관찰된 성형성은 5~25% 혼합까지는 성형된 RPF와 유사하게 일정한 크기 및 강도를 유지 할 수 있었으나, 25% 이상 혼합시 분말형태의 가루가 많이 발생되며 강도가 약해져 쉽게 부스러지는 문제점등이 나타났다. 연료의 개질 형태나 성형성등을 고려하였을 때 슬러지 혼합비율이 약 15~25% 정도가 최적 혼합비율인 것으로 나타났다.

  • Wastewater sludge had normally filled up in land before revising the law of waste material management in 2003, which does not permit landfill of organic sludge in Korea. After the law, most sludge has been littered in the ocean up to now. However, due to the London Convention 96 Protocol, littering sludge in the ocean will also be prohibited after 2011. This Protocol makes countries find out new methods to treat wastewater sludge. There is no exception in Korea too. Many researchers have urgently try to find out better ways to treat sludge. One of ways is to make sludge recycle energy and the success of it depends on drying method. Specifically, it really depends how to make sludge dry ecologic friendly and economic efficiently. Therefore, wastewater sludge produced in Youngdong was analyzed to make it energy resources in this study. The sludge was tested to analyze the drying and chemical characteristics of it by irradiating microwave. In the result, it is sure that the sludge has little heavy metals as like as others in country side. High calories, 3370 Kcal, shows that it has good potential to be recycle energy. Moreover, weight deduction of the sludge vs. time shows long S-curve and has same deduction ratio. Specifically, S-curve can be divided by three sections based on the curvature points. There are steady state reduction ratio of weight and approximately 80% of weight duction in the second section. This results can be used to estimate the amount of sludge reduction in the full-scale microwave dryer. Drying capacity of microwave shows approximately 1.0 kg/kw/hr. It makes sure that sludge recycle energy has the potential of economic efficiency too.

Co-treatment of Sewage Sludge and Cow Manure by Vermistabilization (Vermistabilization에 의한 하수 슬러지와 가축분뇨의 병합처리)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of cow manure as additive material on the ripening of sewage s sludge for vermistabiJization. The changes of the waste properties by ripening for 50days were observed as a function of the v various mixture ratios of sewage sludge ‘and cow manure. The pH values of the mixture wastes decreased from 7.5-7.67 to 6_ 9~7.2 by the ripening for 50days, and the mixture ratio made dIfferent pH values. The initial value of oxidation-reduction p potential (Eh) of the mixture waste was a negative (-) value indicating an unfavorable condition for earthworm after, but the v values of Eh increased with the opening time. The Increase rate at Eh value was prop$\alpha$rtional to the mixture ratio of cow m manure. The value of alkalinity was also changed into the favorable range for earthworm after 50days except for non-use of 1 the cow manure When the mixture ratio of the cow manure increased from 10% to 30%, the growth of earthworms increased h from 63.7% to 88.3 % tor the survival rate, 265% to 321% for the liveweight increasing rate and 66.7_7% to 91% for hatching f rate of the cocoons. It can be concluded that the proper content of tbe cow manure in the sewage sludge to ensure effective v vermistabilization was over 20%, when the mixture was ripened during 50 days. The quantity of ingestion and 며ectian at 20%-30% was found to be O.15--i.L18g sludge and 0 1l--O.14g solid per capacity earthworm per day, respectively.

울진 3,4 호기 증기발생기 슬러지 세정장비 개발

  • 한전전력연구원에서는 한국표준형 원전 증기발생기인 시스템 80 모델의 튜브시트 상부에 침전된 슬러지를 제거하기 위한 고압 분사식 슬러지 세정장비를 개발하였다. 국내에는 영광 3,4,5,6 호기 및 울진 3,4,5,6 호기 등 총 8 기의 한국표준형 원전이 운전중에 있으나 기 사용하고 있던 증기발생기 세정 장비가 자동화가 미흡하여 작업자의 방사선 쪼임량이 과대하고 장비가 전열관에 충돌하여 전열관이 손상될 가능성이 상존하며 세정 방식이 증기발생기 가장자리인 annulus 에서 중앙의 center stay cylinder 로 향해 슬러지가 증기발생기 중앙 부분에 집중적으로 침적될 가능성이 있는 등 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 개발에 착수하였다. 개발된 증기발생기 세정 장비는 2004 년 4 월 중 울진 3 호기 증기발생기 세정 작업에 성공적으로 활용되었다.

A Study on Pre-treatment Facility for Foodwaste and Sewage Sludge Mixture (음식폐기물과 하수슬러지 병합처리를 위한 전처리시설에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate and improve the pre-treatment facility for foodwaste and sewage sludge mixture treatment. The process of foodwaste pre-treatment consists of storage, classification with crushing, and thickening. The effluent of sewage treatment facility was used as the diluting and washing water. The panicle size of foodwaste after pre-treatment was almost under 2mm, the mixture of foodwastes and sewage sludge showed an advantage to the anaerobic digestion. The amount of gas production increased from 0.8ton/day ($CH_4$ : 0.5ton/day) to 3.5ton/day ($CH_4$ : 2.3ton/day) after the anaerobic digestion of the foodwastes and sewage sludge mixture. The amount of sludge cake increased from 11.2ton/day to 21.2ton/day. Therefore, the proper operation of the foodwaste pre-treatment facility was contributed to the efficient anaerobic digestion of foodwaste and sewage sludge mixture treatment.

Production of Soild Fuel from Organic Waste Sludge by Vacuum Frying (감압유탕공정을 이용한 유기성슬러지의 연료화)

  • It was tried to utilize organic waste sludge from wastewater treatment plant as a starting material to produce a solid fuel by vacuum flying. The effects of decompression levels, frying time and temperature on the calorific value and moisture of vacuum fried sludge were systematically investigated. Dewatered raw sludge used in this study had a moisture of 81.1% and calorific value of 2,930 kcal/kg. Based on the experimental observation, it was identified that the decompression level and frying time have the greatest influence on the calorific value of vacuum fried sludge. Moistures of the fried sludge at $180^{\circ}C$ for 25 min in 760 mmHg, 684 mmHg and 630 mmHg were 32.4%, 14.2% and 11.6%, respectively. Calorific values of the vacuum fried sludge at $140^{\circ}C$ for 15 min and 25 min were 5,400 kcal/kg and 5,540 kcal/kg in 684 mmHg and 5,520 kcal/kg and 5,660 kcal/kg in 630 mmHg, respectively.

방사선을 이용한 슬러지 탈수능 향상 및 퇴비화

  • 방사선 처리에 의한 슬러지의 기초 물성 변화 및 탈수율 증진에 대한 실험을 수행하였다. 또한 슬러지의 자원화를 위하여 슬러지 이용 퇴비를 제조하여 품질을 평가하였다. 방사선을 조사한 슬러지는 입자 내부에 존재하는 일부 수분이 유출되어 최종 탈수 케이크의 함유 수분이 약 7% 정도 감소하였으며, 이는 방사선 조사가 최종 슬러지 발생량을 저감시킬 수 있는 한 가지 방법임을 시사 하여준다. 슬러지를 이용한 퇴비화 실험을 통하여 방사선 처리를 한 퇴비의 품질이 비조사 퇴비에 비하여 퇴비 품질이 향상되었음을 입증하였다.
