Cement is a basic material for the construction industry and it requires high temperature sintering when manufacturing cement. $CO_2$ emissions from raw materials and fuels are recognized as new environmental problems and efforts are underway to reduce them. Techniques for reducing $CO_2$ in concrete are also recommended to use blended cement such as blast furnace slag or fly ash. In addition, the construction waste generated in the dismantling of concrete structures is recognized as another environmental problem. Thus, various methods are being implemented to increase the recycling rate. The purpose of this study is to utilize the inorganic raw materials generated during the dismantling of the structure as a raw material for the low carbon type cement binder. Such as, waste concrete powder, waste cement block, waste clay brick and waste textile as raw materials for low carbon type cement binder. From the research results, low carbon type cement binder was manufactured from the raw material composition of waste concrete powder, waste cement block, waste clay brick and waste textile.
Properties of slag cement that contained 50 wt% of blast furnace slag were studied when replaced blast furnace slag powder with electric arc furnace slag powder. Electric arc furnace slag was aged for about 2 months in the air by being crushed to be 1-3 mm in size. As a result of the experiment, it was proven that the water content for obtaining the same consistency became decreased as slag is replaced with electric arc furnace slag instead of blast furnace slag. Also, the workability of mortar increased about 30% at the same ratio of water to binder when blast furnace slag was completely replaced with electric arc furnace slag. The compressive strength of mortar on the 28 days increased when a slag replacement rate became 10 wt%, however, it rather decreased when the slag replacement rate exceeded 10 wt%. The heat of hydration became higher for the first 14 h in case of the replacement of slag cement by electric arc furnace slag. Yet, it decreased when 14 h had passed. Therefore, when all blast furnace slag was replaced with electric arc furnace slag, about 15 cal/g heat of hydration decreased when it passed about 72 h.

In this study, Analyzed the effect of the change in RFA and RCA substitution rate on the concrete containing BS bonding materials but no cement. The findings are as follows. First, the fresh concrete has less slump value and air contents as more RFA and RCA is used. In case of hardened concrete, as more RFA and RCA are used, the higher the compressive strength of concrete becomes. Especially, the compressive strength of concrete which used recycled aggregates only is found to be 2.2 times as high as that of concrete using natural fine and coarse aggregates only. But if the concrete is to be used as the structural concrete having the compressive strength of 13.8 MPa, the alkaline materials and some cement are required to be added.

To improve the problem of strength reduction of unary and binary blended non-cement concrete that occur at room temperature, comparative analysis was conducted based on the slump and compressive strength properties of ternary blended non-cement concrete in which cement was replaced with silica fume, fly ash, and blast furnace slag, and the following conclusions were drawn. The ternary blended non-cement concrete showed higher compressive strength than binary binder concrete, and the slump reduction was less when 10% silica fume was mixed. In addition, the appropriate composition ratio range of each by-product was suggested according to slump and compressive strength level based on ternary diagram.

As the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere increases, the reduction of CO2 is gaining worldwide attention. In the construction industry, cement replacement materials such as fly ash and blast furnace slag were investigated to reduce CO2 emissions in cement production process. Precast concrete is used in the field after manufacturing in the factory in the form of pipes and bricks because of shortening construction period and cutting construction cost. According to the results of previous research, it is known that early CO2 curing in concrete using OPC or fly ash has an initial strength enhancement effect and can be used for precast concrete production. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the strength improvement effect by confirming the initial strength improvement effect when blast furnace slag is mixed.

The research is to suggest the compensating strength values depending on various managing periods of concrete based on the strength development model calculated with equivalent age method for 20% of blast furnace slag replaced concrete. As a result, for 28 days of managing period, 9, 6, and 3MPa of compensating strength values were suggested when the temperatures were from 4 to 6℃, from 6 to 12℃, from 12 to 17℃, respectively. Additionally, for 42 days of managing period, 6 and 3MPa of compensating strength value was suggested when the temperature was from 4 to 7℃, from 7 to 12℃, and for 56 days of managing period, 3MPa of compensating strength value was suggested when the temperature was from 4 to 9℃. Furthermore, for 28, 42, 56, and 91 days of managing periods, any compensating strength values were needed when the temperature were higher than 17, 12, 9, and 4℃, respectively.

The fine blast furnace slag is widely used as the admixture as it helps to increase the fluidity, long term strength of the concrete but decrease the heat of hydration. In case of the fine blast furnace slag, if the fineness of the slag is enhanced with the addition of gypsum to the concrete for the supplement of low strength in early stage and the facilitation of the initial hydration, the quality of the concrete is expected to change depending on the volume of the gypsum volume fraction. But, up to now the study on the fine blast furnace slag has only focused on the effect of fineness, replacement and admixture and there have been almost no studies on the effect of the gypsum volume fraction. Accordingly, this study focuses on what effect the gypsum volume fraction would make on the fluidity characteristics of the ultrafine furnace slag cement paste by using the rheology properties.

This study reviewed the characteristics of concrete made of performance improving mixture materials based on KOH as a means to resolve the problems of initial quality reduction that result in concretes with blast furnace slag powder. Summarizing the results, first as the characteristics of fresh concrete, liquidity was found to reduce in general with increased BS substitution ratio. Objective range of liquidity was not satisfied in all mixes according to the use of performance improving mixture materials. Air capacity was satisfied to the objective range in all mixes. As the characteristics of hardened concrete, while compressive strength showed a decreasing trend with increasing BS substitution ratio at early age, increasing trend was shown by the plain with increasing BS substitution ratio at later age. On the other hand, K1 and K2 were only effective among mixture materials at early age, but K1F30 showed excellent strength at both early and later ages.

When industrial by-products like slag and fly ash are using in concrete with cement, it improves strength and durability against external deterioration factors by densifying the structure through potential hydraulic and pozzolanic reaction. But it has been pointed out that high dependence on the quality variation and the curing condition using a admixure material for concrete. In this study, the characteristics of internal micropore structure according to curing condition were analyzed for pastes and mortar specimens under using blast furnace slag powder. As a result, the variation of compressive strength and the internal microstructure were observed according to curing conditions by binder type. Particularly, using blast furnace slag powder, decrease in compressive strength were clearly observed in indoor and carbonation curing compared with water curing. The pore structure analysis also clearly observed the decrease of the gel pore existing in the CSH hydrate layer and the increase of the capillary pore in indoor and carbonation curing compared with water curing condition.

In this research, regarding the type three blast furnace slag (BS) regulated by KS F 2563 and supplied to actual ready mixed concrete plant, the fineness on specification and actually measured fineness by Blain test were compared, and by applying the hydrometer method used for early prediction of concrete strength, the feasibility of the hydrometer method for acquisition inspection of BS was analyzed. Additionally, the influence of various fineness of BS on properties of cement mortar was also assessed. According to the experimental results of this research, correlation of fineness values between specification and actually measured data were not matched. In the case of the rapid evaluation method using hydrometer, a good relation was shown between the fineness data obtained from hydrometer and Blain test. furthermore, from the cement mortar properties test, there was a good relation was obtained between fineness data from rapid evaluation method by hydrometer and cement mortar properties, while there was no clear relation between fineness data from specification and cement mortar properties. Hence, as a qulity controlling method of BS fineness, a rapid evaluation method using hydrometer is suggested as a new method.
